Will Celta Vigo pass Osasuna?

CA Osasuna can breathe a sigh of relief. After all, the Basques have won a match in the Spanish top flight for the first time after ten matchdays in a row without a win and have thus ended their slide in La Liga for the time being. Nevertheless, “Los Rojillos” are still in need of points, as their lead over the relegation places has shrunk to eight points after their slump in form.

On Wednesday evening, the Basque representative is the guest of the Himmelblauen from Vigo. In contrast to CA Osasuna, Celta Vigo have been much stronger in recent weeks and have already scored at third-placed Sevilla. However, the Celestes’ mini-success streak ended most recently with the away defeat against Real Sociedad.

The next setback for Celta Vigo cannot be ruled out at home. As the second-weakest home team in the league, 14th-placed Vigo have so far only picked up eight points in a total of ten home games. It would therefore not be at all surprising if a bet on Celta Vigo vs. Osasuna pays off at odds of 4.70 on the supposed underdog from the Basque Country.

CA Osasuna have only lost one of their last five competitive matches with Celta Vigo anyway. The match in the first half of the season ended in a goalless draw. For long stretches, however, Los Rojillos from Osasuna had dominated the game against their league rivals. Among other things, the Basque club even missed a penalty in the course of the game.

Celta Vigo – Statistics & current form

Celta Vigo have had a mixed season so far and are still struggling to stay in the league. The traditional club from Galicia is in 14th place just a few matchdays after the start of the second half of the season. Only six points separate the Himmelblauen from the relegation places, whereby the points cushion is mainly due to the most recent results.

Before the defeat at Real Sociedad, the Celestes had two wins and a draw in the Spanish top flight. The away coup at Betis Sevilla, third in La Liga, was particularly commendable. Celta Vigo even kept their clean sheet against the Andalusians’ concentrated attack – at league level for the seventh time this season, mind you.

Nevertheless, the Himmelblauen have already partly lost the momentum of their mini-success series with the defeat in San Sebastian. Before that, the team of head coach Eduardo Coudet had already been eliminated from the Copa del Rey. The “Celestes” were surprisingly eliminated against a third-division team.

Second-weakest home team in the league

It can therefore not be ruled out that a prediction of a defeat for the Himmelblauen in Celta Vigo vs Osasuna will also come true. This assessment is supported above all by Vigo’s miserable home record. In La Liga, Coudet’s team has won only two out of ten home games so far.

In the home table, the Celestes have only eight points on their account and are statistically the second weakest home team in the league. Only Cádiz have scored fewer points at home than Celta Vigo. The only encouraging thing ahead of Wednesday’s game is the recent home record against Wednesday’s opponents from the Basque country.

Celta have not lost any of their last five games at home against CA Osasuna – three of which were won by the hosts from Vigo. That record will now be extended on Wednesday evening. Head coach Coudet will only have to do without Solari and Tapia due to injury.

Osasuna – Statistics & current form

Not so long ago, CA Osasuna were fifth in La Liga and one of the positive surprises of the current season. Since then, however, things have gone steadily downhill for the Basque club. Head coach Jagoba Arrasate’s team is now only twelfth in the table and has forfeited any hopes of an international starting place.

The primary goal – in view of the current standings at the start of the second half of the season – is to stay in the league. Therefore, the recent home victory against Cadiz CF, a direct competitor in the relegation battle, was all the more important. CA Osasuna not only made a small leap in the table, but also extended their lead over the red zone.

Los Rojillos are now aiming for the next points in Vigo. Since September 2006, CA Osasuna have not won an away match at the Himmelblauen from Galicia. Meanwhile, if the away misery ends on Wednesday night, odds of 4.70 are paid on Celta Vigo vs. Osasuna for tip 2.

Will Arrasate & Co. turn the corner?

The record of “Los Rojillos” on their opponents’ terrain speaks in favour of this. So far, only Betis, Sevilla and Real Madrid have a better points average away from home than CA Osasuna. In nine away games this season, the Basque representatives have a record of 4-2-3, although their away form should not be overestimated given their recent form crisis.

The Basques started La Liga on their opponents’ pitch with four wins en suite. It was only in the last five away games that CA Osasuna stumbled. Among others, they lost to top-class teams like FC Sevilla and Atletico Madrid. On the other hand, Arrasate’s team picked up a point at leaders Real Madrid.

In Galicia, Jagoba Arrasate will only have to do without two players due to injury. Neither the long-term injured Jesús Areso nor Aridane Hernández will be available for the match in Vigo. No major changes are expected in the starting eleven, after all CA Osasuna delivered a power performance at home against Cádiz.

Predicted line-up of Osasuna:
Herrera – Vidal, Sanjurjo, Cruz, Cote – Barja, Moncayola, Torro, Garcia – Garcia, Budimir

Celta Vigo – Osasuna Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

This is the 72nd time the two clubs have met. Celta Vigo, meanwhile, lead the head-to-head comparison in their 71 matches with CA Osasuna with a record of 33-10-27. However, the Basque representative has had the upper hand in the last five competitive matches. Osasuna have won two of their last five matches, and Los Rojillos have only lost once.

Two matches ended in a draw, including the most recent encounter in the first half of the current season. It was the first goalless draw between the two clubs since September 2016.

Celta Vigo – Osasuna Tip

While Celta Vigo’s late surge partially compensated for their poor start to the season in recent weeks, CA Osasuna’s strong start to the season was overshadowed by their recent slump. The Basques thus lost their good starting position in the table and will probably also have to fear for their chances of staying in the league in the second half of the season.

After all, the lead over the relegation places has shrunk with the form crisis in recent weeks. It is therefore all the more important to build on the recent success against Cádiz and also master the away game at the Himmelblauen from Galicia. Wednesday’s opponents come in very handy for the Basque guests.

CA Osasuna have lost just one of their last five competitive games against Celta Vigo. Because the Celestes from Galicia have recently lost two games in a row, it is not out of the question that Los Rojillos from the Basque Country will master the away game on Wednesday evening. CA Osasuna have already won four out of ten away games this season.

We see value in the high odds on an away win and place our bet on Celta Vigo vs. Osasuna at odds of 4.70 on the visitors. We are using four out of a total of ten possible units for this bet.
