Can Granada confirm their upward trend in the derby?
Game day 17 in the Spanish LaLiga is also the penultimate game day in the calendar year 2021. This round is concluded with a small derby in Andalusia. Last season’s promoted team Cadiz welcomes Granada. Not only geographically are both teams to be found in the same region, but also in terms of the table.
For both teams the hard everyday life is called “relegation fight”. The hosts from Cadiz are currently in penultimate place as 19th in the table. Granada’s position 15 sounds much better, but the gap between the two teams is just three points. With a home win, the hosts could draw level, for which betting odds of 2.50 are offered on Cadiz vs Granada.
Thus, the home side are seen as slight favourites at the Nuevo Mirandilla Stadion, despite losing all of their last three league games. Can the turnaround actually be achieved in the small derby? The match kicks off on Monday evening at 9 p.m.
Cadiz – Statistics & current form
The yellow and blue from Andalusia look back on extremely successful years. This upswing, including a return to the highest division, is closely linked to head coach Alvaro Cervera. The 56-year-old took over the club in the third division and led Cadiz to twelfth place in the table last year. This was tantamount to equalling their best finish from the 1987/88 season.
No home win
Confirmation of last season’s strength is currently causing major problems, however, as Cadiz have seven points less than last year after 16 rounds completed. Although Cadiz have scored three more goals so far (14 instead of eleven), they have conceded ten more than last year.
The poor record at home is particularly striking. Cervera’s two victories so far this season have both come away from home (against Celta Vigo and Athletic Bilbao). At home, the record is sobering and none of the eight home games so far ended with a win. Four times they have managed to pick up a point, while another four times Cadiz have conceded a defeat.
At the same time, just five meagre goals have been scored in these eight home games. This makes the team at the bottom of the table the weakest home team in the league. Accordingly, there is no value to be found in betting on a home win for Cadiz against Granada.
Three high defeats in a row
In addition to the weak home record, the last few games also clearly speak against a prediction on the home side. In the last three league games, Cadiz conceded three clear defeats. Goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma had to make no less than eleven saves against Getafe, Atletico Madrid and Elche. The games against Getafe and Elche were against direct competitors in the relegation battle.
Cadiz’s likely line-up:
Ledesma – Espino, Chust, Haroyan, Akapo – Carcelen, Fernandez, Jönsson, Perea – Sobrino, Lozano
Last matches played by Cadiz:
LaLiga
12/05 2021 – Elche 3 – 1 Cadiz
Copa del Rey
12/02 2021 – CD Villa de Fortuna 0 – 7 Cadiz
LaLiga
11/28 2021 – Cadiz 1 – 4 Atletico Madrid
11/21 2021 – Getafe 4 – 0 Cadiz
11/05 2021 – Athletic Bilbao 0 – 1 Cadiz
Granada – Statistics & current form
For the red and whites from Granada, the statement “not matching last year’s performances” is absolutely true as well. After successful coach Diego Martinez left the club of his own free will at the end of last season, Roberto Moreno was introduced as his successor. So far, his record is not very convincing and compared to last year, Granada even have nine points less to show on their credit side.
Upward trend is visible
And yet there is a big difference to the hosts. While the home side have suffered three heavy defeats in a row, Granada are moving in the right direction. After four defeats in the first seven league games, Granada recently lost only two of the last eight league games.
However, this compares to three wins and three draws. The current momentum is certainly in favour of the visitors, so with a little bit of risk, a prediction on the away win can be recommended for Cadiz against Granada. A bet on the draw-no-bet market in favour of Granada is definitely a good idea, as the hosts are still winless at home and a draw would result in a cash back.
Away they won’t wait long
Attention-grabbing feature of the Moreno eleven in the away games so far (record 1-4-3) is that there is no lengthy feeling out, but rather relatively early risk is taken and goals result from this. In Granada’s eight games away from home, there have been 18 goals so far, twelve of which have come in the first period.
Predicted line-up of Granada:
Luis Maximiano – Neva, Torrente, Abram, Quini – Puertas, Milla, Gonalons, Escudero – Suarez, Molina
Last matches played by Granada:
LaLiga
12/03 2021 – Granada 2 – 1 Deportivo Alaves
Copa del Rey
11/30 2021 – Laguna 0 – 7 Granada
LaLiga
11/26 2021 – Athletic Bilbao 2 – 2 Granada
11/21 2021 – Granada 1 – 4 Real Madrid
11/06 2021 – Espanyol 2 – 0 Granada
Cadiz – Granada Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
After 34 games in the Spanish second division (with 30 games having been played in the 20th century), Cadiz and Granada faced each other in the Spanish football top flight for the first time last season. Last year’s promoted side certainly have fond memories of this little Andalusian derby, as in addition to the 1-1 draw at home, Cadiz enjoyed a 1-0 win away from home.
Cadiz – Granada Tip
The last home match of this calendar year is absolutely trend-setting for Cadiz, after all, the “Mission Impossible” at Real Madrid is still on the agenda. Realistically, the small derby is therefore the last chance to gain points this season. However, in view of the recent results, betting on the home side between Cadiz and Granada is not recommended.
Granada, despite their recent upward trend, are certainly not (yet) at the same level as last season, but the visitors still have a clear advantage in terms of form. The available quality also gives Granada the advantage and therefore the tip “Draw No Bet 2” with a stake of six units is recommended for the derby between Cadiz and Granada.
