Pure relegation battle
A classic relegation thriller in Andalusia. Not because the teams are so good, but because there is sheer fear. The hosts have the better cards, but games like those against the stragglers can always be a test of nerves. The betting odds for Cadiz and Granada show this very clearly
However, the optimism in both camps is only justified to a limited extent. While the visitors are already 13 points off the pace, the hosts are already five points off the pace. So if the Blue & Yellows fail to win here, the elevator to the abyss will probably already be occupied by three teams. This also influences the odds for Cadiz v Granada
A home win is by no means the norm in the current competition, but with five points from their last five starts, the blue and yellows are still better off than the visitors with their two points. It will therefore be a nervous event and it is in this light that the predictions for Cadiz v Granada appear
Cadiz – stats & current form
The men from Cadiz are fighting for survival. If they don’t want to lose sight of the safety net completely, they must finally tidy up the various construction sites. This applies to both ends of the pitch
Cadiz flagging on the way forward
.. is the hosts’ most obvious problem area. After 29 games, they have scored just 20 goals. This is by far the weakest figure in the entire Primera Division. They countered their lack of strikers in the winter with the loan of veteran winger Juanmi, who has already scored three goals in his seven appearances (including a brace against Atlético Madrid). However, the visitors are still clearly better off statistically with a collective 30 goals in one game less.
The principle of the game is also quite banal. The balls are primarily delivered to the flanks with long shots. This is followed by an attempt at a cross or a long-range shot. Shots, especially from free kicks, are the Blue & Yellows’ only serious weapon.
Of course, this system is not necessarily difficult to defend. Only teams with a small or slender defense will break into a sweat here. However, the overall score also shows how few of them there are
Little discipline and shaky defense
At the other end of the pitch, however, things are not significantly better. They have conceded 40 goals. Although they are holding up better than the visitors here, in combination with the offense, the difference is also the third weakest in the league. So the table doesn’t lie.
Although Cadiz try to operate with a deep block, they are too static. There are always “stupid” fouls, especially in and around the penalty area. This invites the opponent to set-pieces and penalties. Stronger soloists in particular repeatedly tear holes in the structure.
If the ball is ever in the team’s own ranks, it is usually a brief moment of joy. Ball control is the next problem area. Due to the frequent switching moments for the opponent, the hosts are also expectedly quite far down the efficiency table in terms of counter-attacks. With the exception of the surprising 2:0 against Atletico, there is rarely a flawless game in the portfolio.
Predicted Cadiz line-up:
Granada – Statistics & current form
The reigning Segunda Division champions are on their way back there. With ten rounds to go, they are already 13 points clear of the drop zone. The main reason lies in the defense
Granada’s inviting vulnerabilities
The Red & Whites have played 28 matchdays and have conceded 58 goals. This makes the defensive unit even worse than bottom-placed Almeria (57). However, with their victory on the last matchday, even the red lantern is no longer far away.
In true Spanish style, Granada prefer to play through the middle. However, due to a lack of quality and courage, they are often pushed around in their own half. As individual mistakes keep creeping into the build-up play, the opponents often find themselves relatively alone in front of goal. In other words, if you lose the ball in your own penalty area, you invite many high-caliber chances.
The record speaks for itself. In the past five rounds alone, 14 goals have been conceded. But it doesn’t have to be an individual mistake. They are also extremely susceptible to crosses and defensive headers. Unfortunately for the visitors, that could fit perfectly into the hosts’ match plan. So conceding goals is probably only a matter of time
Granada games remain in the “goal average “
A look at the attack shows that this can be true on both sides of the pitch. With 30 goals in 28 rounds, they are above the 1.0 quota per game. They usually go down, but with flying colors.
On the one hand, because despite the vulnerability of the defense in attack, they have some talented players in their ranks and their individual actions most often lead to finishes and goals. The defense likes to waste the ball in the build-up, but if they get it through the first pressing chain, the front part of the team can definitely do something with it. Striker Myrto Uzuni (nine goals + one assist) and Bryan Zaragoza (6 + 2), who moved to Bayern, made a particularly positive impression here. United loan signing Facundo Pellistri has also strengthened the squad in winter, with the 22-year-old winger contributing one goal (against Barcelona) and two assists in six games. Although coach José Ramón Sandova’s team often fall behind due to mistakes, they still have a strong value when it comes to catching up.
In view of the hosts’ weaknesses, an interesting combination could naturally arise here. Both teams show glaring weaknesses in offense and defense respectively. However, their respective strengths match their weaknesses. In short, if both teams can exploit their opponents’ weaknesses, then a surprising amount could end up happening on the pitch.
Predicted line-up of Granada:
Cadiz – Granada Direct comparison / H2H balance
The direct duels always offer something to marvel at. Above all, sharing the points is a specialty. Half of the last ten encounters have resulted in a Solomon-like points split. Incidentally, Granada prevailed 2-0 in the last duel. If the 7:10 goals in the direct comparison is anything to go by, then Cadiz and Granada’s odds of scoring lots of goals can probably be left in the cupboard. However, this theory should be taken with a pinch of salt when looking at their playing styles
Cadiz – Granada tip
The upcoming match will be a tough one. The hosts have to win and the visitors are only playing with the courage of desperation. The nerves are stretched to breaking point. With both sides so prone to mistakes, it’s difficult to make any viable predictions for Cadiz v Granada
Due to their recent form and the home game, Cadiz vs Granada is touted as betting tip 1. However, it is more than questionable whether this actually makes sense.
