Will Chris Wood score again against his favourite opponent?

Burnley and West Ham face off in an unequal clash. The home side are currently in a relegation spot and have only managed one win this season. The situation is the opposite for the capitals. In fourth place, the Hammers are on course for the Champions League and most recently, Chelsea, the league leaders at the time, were defeated.

The visitors can also rely on their away strength: Only the top three teams in the table in the shape of the Blues, Reds and Citizens score more away from home. For the clash at Turf Moor between Burnley and West Ham, however, the betting is on goals on both sides.

Burnley – Statistics & current form

The Clarets have caused their poor position in the table mainly through a weak defence. Only bottom of the table Norwich and Wolverhampton have fewer goals of their own in a league-wide comparison. They can take heart from the fact that their lack of goals, at least on home soil, has been less pronounced recently.

Six of the eight goals at home were scored in the last two matches at Turf Moor. The first win of the season also came in a 3-1 victory over Brentford.

Cornet have acclimatised well

Positive on the offensive end is new signing Gnaly Cornet. The Ivory Coast kicker has only featured in two home league games, but scored in both for coach Sean Dyche’s side.

Should he strike again, the former Lyon player would become the first player in Burnley history to score in his first three home appearances! Furthermore, the Hammers are a favourite opponent of his strike partner Chris Wood. The New Zealander has scored every time in his four appearances on home soil against the Irons!

Will Wilson strike again?

He also has no fewer than seven goals in eight appearances so far in this pairing, his best haul compared to any other Premier League opponent. With that in mind, the odds and tips on his next goal celebration for BFC are interesting on top in the clash between Burnley and West Ham.

Predicted line-up of Burnley:
Pope – Tarkowski – Lowton – Collins – Taylor – McNeil – Brownhill – Westwood – Gudmundsson – Wood – Cornet

West Ham – Statistics & current form

The Hammers were in a crisis of form until the last matchday. They failed to record a win in three rounds of matches, including defeats against Wolves and Manchester City, which cast doubt on West Ham’s ability to remain consistent at the top of the table.

These doubts were dispelled last weekend with a triumph over Chelsea. One of the reasons why the Hammers have been so successful so far this season is their efficient attack: only the Blues and Liverpool have a better shot conversion rate than the visitors’ 19 per cent.

Hammers like to turn it up after the break

Specially in the second half of the game, the attack of coach David Moyes’ eleven operates powerfully: 68 per cent of the goals were scored after the break tea – fifth highest value and only the Reds have more goals in these sections of the game.

In view of this, the betting odds on a second-half win for the visitors are additionally worth considering in Burnley’s clash against West Ham. The bet is backed up by the home side’s weakness in the second half: no team in the British top flight scores fewer of its goals after the break. Southampton are the only team to score a low 36 per cent of their goals after the break.

Latest match in the Europa League played by a B eleven

The home side also cannot hope to gain a physical advantage from the extra games West Ham played last Thursday night in the Europa League. A host of regulars were spared in the 1-0 home defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, as the match was all about nothing from a sporting point of view for the Londoners. In fact, West Ham’s group victory was already certain before kick-off at London’s Olympic Stadium.

Predicted line-up of West Ham:
Fabianski – Zouma – Diop – Dawson – Coufal – Soucek – Rice – Johnson – Lanzini – Bowen – Antonio
Last matches played by West Ham:

12/09 2021 – West Ham 0 – 1 Dinamo Zagreb

Burnley – West Ham Direct comparison / H2H-Balance

Burnley lost the last direct encounter in front of their own crowd with 1:2 last May. The Londoners also won the previous home match. This ended a run of three consecutive defeats for them in this fixture. It is also worth noting that Antonio scored all three goals for the Londoners in both games!

It is also statistically striking that no prisoners have been taken in recent encounters: Only two of the last 20 duels in the past 17 years or so ended in a draw! For the upcoming encounter between Burnley and West Ham, the odds are moderately favouring the visitors.

Burnley – West Ham Tip

Burnley share just one win on the season with Newcastle and a difficult season is looming ever larger for the hosts. In third last place, they currently occupy only one relegation spot and nothing more than staying in the league can be identified as the season’s goal in the case of the Wine Reds.

For the clash at Turf Moor between Burnley and West Ham, however, the forecast includes a goal celebration on both sides. The hosts’ offence has picked up considerably in the past two home games, scoring three goals in each.

The previously strong Londoners, who arrive with the fourth-best attack in the Premier League, in turn recorded a defeat in each of their two most recent away games. Furthermore, they have only managed two clean sheets in their seven away games.

Chris Wood’s fondness for their upcoming opponents also points to a goal from the underdogs – the New Zealander has scored more goals against no other team in the Premier League during his career!

Furthermore, BFC’s attack has been spruced up by the signing of Cornet and the Ivorian already has five goals after nine league appearances.
