When will the German record champions get back on track?

The Bundesliga went into the recent international break with a very interesting table picture. For the past two matchdays, 1. FC Union Berlin has surprisingly been leading the table. The current three main pursuers, who hold Champions League starting positions, are Borussia Dortmund, SC Freiburg and TSG Hoffenheim. Record and serial champion Bayern Munich is only fifth.

The Bavarians will be under particular scrutiny right at the start of matchday eight, when they face Bayer Leverkusen at home on Friday evening. Even with a three-point win, however, the Reds could only move within two points of Union Berlin. The Bundesliga is correspondingly exciting at the moment.

On Saturday, Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt will try to break the Ironmen’s long unbeaten streak. The Köpenicker have not lost in 14 games in the Bundesliga this season. At the same time, BVB plays host to 1. FC Köln. The Geißböcke have only lost one of their seven league games and can be a real threat to the Black and Yellows. Bottom club Bochum, meanwhile, will be hoping for their first three points of the new season when they play away in Leipzig, while Wolfsburg (17th) and Stuttgart (16th) will play a six-point game in the bottom of the table. Once again, the top flight of German football has nine matches in store, for which you can find betting odds and tips in this article on matchday 8 in the Bundesliga.

Bayern vs. Leverkusen – 30 September, 20:30

After FC Bayern won their first three league games of the 2022/23 season in commanding fashion, scoring 15:1 goals, the Reds then went winless four times in a row (three draws, one defeat). This is the weakest start to a season since the 2010/11 season under Louis van Gaal, which has made the international break extremely unsettling. Recently, Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked by Chelsea, was repeatedly linked with the German record champions, should Julian Nagelsmann fail to turn things around in the near future.

It would be correspondingly important for the Munich team to finally win a treble against struggling Leverkusen, who, with only five points out of a possible 21 (15th place), have had their worst start to a season since 1982/83. In principle, there is nothing to be said against the FCB, even in view of the Rhinelanders’ poor form. Nevertheless, in the Bundesliga on matchday 8, betting tips on a home win for Munich are also risky. We therefore recommend betting with a handicap of +2 on the Werkself, who have taken four points from their last three matches at the Allianz Arena. This covers the eventuality of Leverkusen winning any point.

RB Leipzig vs. Bochum – 01 October, 15:30

Both RB Leipzig and VfL Bochum had certainly imagined a different start to the 2022/23 season. On both sides, therefore, adjustments have already been made on the coaching bench. While the Red Bulls won one of their first two league games under Marco Rose, it is Thomas Letsch’s debut on the Bochum bench.

In the Bundesliga on matchday 8, bets on a point win for the team from the Ruhr area are not exactly under the most favourable omens. After all, VfL is the only team in the Bundesliga that has yet to pick up a single point away from home. On top of that, RBL have been quite solid, at least in their own stadium. The Saxons are still unbeaten at the Red Bull Arena and have picked up seven out of a possible nine points from their three home games.

Accordingly, the bet on a home win for the Leipzigers is quite playable, for which, however, there are no too worthwhile quotes.

Freiburg vs. Mainz – 01 October, 15:30

Both SC Freiburg and 1. FSV Mainz 05 have made a good start to the season. The Black Forest side even led the table for a week and still occupy third place with 14 out of a possible 21 points. The Rheinhessen side, on the other hand, have eleven points and have been particularly convincing away from home. In three of the four guest games so far, the Nullfünfer have been victorious.

Accordingly, it is difficult to make accurate predictions about the outcome of this Bundesliga clash on Matchday 8, especially as both teams have recently gone winless in the Bundesliga twice in a row. While Sport-Club recorded two goalless draws in a row, Mainz also struggled to score goals. With only seven goals, FSV has the fourth weakest offensive performance in the Bundesliga. Accordingly, there is a lot of value in betting on less than 2.5 goals in this match.

Cologne vs. Dortmund – 01 October, 15:30

The Borussia Dortmund camp doesn’t really know yet how to evaluate the 2022/23 season. On the one hand, BVB are three points ahead of Bayern and, as second in the table, are only two points behind leaders Union Berlin. On the other hand, however, the offensive hardly stings after the departure of Erling Haaland, which is why the recent injury to Marco Reus was appropriately inconvenient. Only once in the last 30 years have the Westphalians scored fewer goals after seven league games than they currently do.

The away trip to Cologne does not come at the best time, because the Geißböcke are hard to beat and have only lost one of their first seven league games. In any case, BVB has often lost its teeth against the Effzeh. Dortmund only picked up five points out of a possible 15 against the cathedral city. Nevertheless, the betting odds in the Bundesliga on matchday 8 are in favour of the visitors, who first have to overcome Cologne’s defence. This is not out of the question. But with a bet on Borussia scoring an away goal at the most, most of the possibilities can be covered.

Frankfurt vs. Union Berlin – 01 October, 15:30

Standing at the top of the Bundesliga table since 11 September 2022, 1. FC Union Berlin now lead the Bundesliga table. The Eisernen picked up exactly where they left off at the end of the previous season. A whopping 14 league games in a row without a defeat are now on the record for the capital city team (eleven wins, three draws). Therefore, no one in Berlin-Köpenick is getting carried away. Nevertheless, Urs Fischer’s self-confident team travels to the Main metropolis with the goal of extending this streak.

But the chances could be much worse. The Eisernen have only won one of their six games at the SGE so far (two draws, three defeats). However, there has not been much evidence of the Hessians’ former home strength. After all, no other Bundesliga team has lost more often at home this year than the Adler, who were even beaten 1-0 by VfL Wolfsburg in their last home game. We are therefore betting on the Köpenicker to win the next point and are betting on the double chance X2.

Wolfsburg vs. VfB Stuttgart – 01 October, 15:30

A look at the table is enough to make the claim that both teams had imagined a different start to the season. VfB Stuttgart (16th) are still winless, but have also only been defeated twice in five draws from seven league games. VfL Wolfsburg (17th) even occupy a direct relegation spot with only one win from seven games. Accordingly, a three-goal win is important for both opponents in this match.

Both the Wolves and the Swabians are struggling with several problems. Not only have both found it extremely difficult to score goals, but they have also both conceded an average of more than one goal per league match. On top of that, VfL are still winless at home, while Stuttgart have not won a match away from home in 13 Bundesliga games this season (eight draws, five defeats).

Accordingly, it is difficult to make three-way bets on the outcome of the match on matchday 8 in the Bundesliga, where practically anything can happen between two in-form teams. In view of the lack of offensive penetration on both sides, however, betting on less than 2.5 goals is a very coherent alternative.

Werder Bremen vs. Gladbach – 01 October, 18:30

Generally, Borussia Mönchengladbach can go into Saturday night’s match very confident. The Foals have lost only one of their last eleven games in the Bundesliga (five wins, five draws). In addition, they have a strong series against the North Germans, against whom the team from the Lower Rhine has been unbeaten for eleven league games (eight wins, three draws). Before the international break, Borussia also impressively dispatched RB Leipzig 3-0.

The Bremen side, too, cannot complain with a solid haul of nine points out of a possible 21. After all, SVW have already picked up six points after falling behind, with last-minute goals often being responsible for this. Not least because of this, the betting odds for another late goal are very interesting in what is basically a very even match in the Bundesliga on Matchday 8.

Hertha vs. Hoffenheim – 02 October, 15:30

While Hertha BSC spent the international break in 13th place, the Berliners have yet to really break free from the cellar, winning only one of their first seven league games (three draws, three defeats). Nevertheless, the trend is positive. Most recently, the “Big City Club” remained unbeaten in three consecutive games (one win, two draws).

It’s true that things haven’t gone too well for the Old Lady against Hoffenheim since they were promoted again nine years ago – ten of the last 18 Bundesliga encounters went to TSG. However, the team from Kraichgau is not really strong away from home. The Sinsheim side have only won one of their last seven matches in the top flight of German football (one draw, five defeats).

Because it is extremely difficult to pick a favourite in this Sunday match in view of this performance data, balanced odds are available for the three-way system in the Bundesliga on Matchday 8. The greatest value is provided by betting that both teams will score.

Schalke vs. Augsburg – 02 October, 17:30

Besides league leaders Union Berlin, FC Augsburg are the only team in the Bundesliga to pick up the maximum haul of six points in the last two matchdays. The Fuggerstädter, who celebrated two 1:0 victories against Werder Bremen and Bayern, thus freed themselves from the bottom of the table and climbed to eleventh place. With only five goals scored, FCA still have the weakest offensive in the league.

However, FC Schalke have not been really goal-threatening lately either, firing just three shots in the lost Revierderby – the second-lowest value of all 18 Bundesliga teams in the 2022/23 season. Admittedly, the Königsblauen bring a strong record against the Bavarian Swabians, against whom only two of the previous 20 Bundesliga games were lost (ten wins, eight draws). However, the momentum is on the side of the visitors, which is why we think it is quite coherent to play tip 2 in the Bundesliga on Matchday 8.

Because a result like 0:0 cannot be ruled out in view of Augsburg’s poor offensive power, bets on an away win for the Fuggerstädter should be hedged with a “Draw No Bet”.
