Will Union Berlin defend their league lead against Wolfsburg?

The 60th season of the Bundesliga is already six matchdays old. Yet the table paints a decidedly unusual picture. Neither Bayern nor Dortmund nor RB Leipzig are in first place. Instead, 1. FC Union Berlin leads the field ahead of SC Freiburg and, surprisingly, greets the third-placed Bayern from the sunny side of the table.

Meanwhile, Champions League contenders Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Bochum, who have now sacked coach Thomas Reis following their sixth defeat in six league games, are in a direct relegation spot. After Domenico Tedesco, whose successor Marco Rose scored a 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in his first game last weekend, this is already the second dismissal of the young season.

Speaking of Marco Rose: The RBL coach will be in the spotlight again next weekend when he and his new team visit a former employer. In the top match of the week, Borussia Mönchengladbach will host RB Leipzig on Saturday evening. No less exciting, however, is the Revierderby between Dortmund and Schalke on Saturday afternoon, while on Sunday Union Berlin could defend their league lead against Wolfsburg, before the purely top-of-the-table match between Hoffenheim (4th) and Freiburg (2nd) is on the agenda in the evening. That makes a total of nine top-class games for which there are betting odds and tips in the Bundesliga on Matchday 7 on this page.

Mainz vs. Hertha – 16 September, 20:30

Overall, the Nullfünfer’s start to the season has been respectable, with ten points out of a possible 18, and they currently hold a place in the Europa League. Most recently, however, 1. FSV Mainz 05 lost two of their last three league games with a total of 1:7 goals. Accordingly, the momentum has shifted a little in the direction of the visitors from the state capital, who, after a weak start, have recently remained unbeaten twice in a row and have picked up four of a possible six points.

Although betting tips in the Bundesliga on Matchday 7 generally see a win for the Rheinhessen side as the more favourable sign. However, with a view to the current form curve and the meagre home record of the Nullfünfer, who are still winless and goalless in their own stadium, it makes much more sense in our eyes to bet on a low-scoring Friday evening match. We recommend betting on under 2.5 goals.

Augsburg vs. Bayern – 17 September, 15:30

The 2022/23 season is going strangely for Bayern so far. First, the three wins from the first three league games on an astronomical goal difference of 15:1 represented the best start to a season ever. Then, however, there were subsequently three draws in a row in league play against Gladbach, Union Berlin and Stuttgart. The twelve points out of a possible 18 are currently “only” enough for third place and attest to one of the worst starts of the last decade for the Reds.

Accordingly, the FCB is under pressure in the derby with the Bavarian Swabians from the Fuggerstadt. Moreover, FC Augsburg ended a dry spell of three defeats in a row last weekend with a 1-0 away win in Bremen. Nevertheless, it would be extremely remarkable if the German record champions were to lose again at FCA and still not be able to break the knot.

In order to take this eventuality into account to some extent, we are betting on a match with at least one early goal in this Bavarian clash in the Bundesliga on Matchday 7.

Leverkusen vs. Werder Bremen – 17 September, 15:30

The downward spiral continues at Bayer Leverkusen. The Werkself, who were surprisingly defeated by third division side Elversberg in the DFB Pokal before the first matchday, lost four of their first six league games and are currently struggling to stay in the league with only four points out of a possible 18 instead of a starting place for the Champions League. The situation is correspondingly tense at the moment, after the away match in the basement duel at Hertha BSC only resulted in a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, Bremen have also lost two of their last three league games after starting the season without a defeat. Against FC Augsburg, the SVW, who have scored at least two goals in every league match since their promotion, even failed to score for the first time, although they had a really good opportunity with a penalty kick shortly before the end of the game.

As difficult as it is to make accurate predictions about the outcome of this interesting Bundesliga match on Matchday 7, we think goals are to be expected on both sides. Consequently, the greatest value is to be found in betting on this match.

VfB Stuttgart vs. Frankfurt – 17 September, 15:30

VfB Stuttgart are still winless as the only Bundesliga team apart from bottom club VfL Bochum. The Swabians nevertheless occupy 14th place in the table with five points, because five of their six league games ended in a draw. Most recently, the Baden-Württemberger even held FC Bayern to a 2-2 draw away from home.

Eintracht Frankfurt, on the other hand, picked up eight out of a possible twelve points from four consecutive games between the second and fifth matchday, but then suffered a somewhat surprising 1-0 defeat at home to VfL Wolfsburg last Saturday. Nevertheless, the Hessians have been particularly convincing away from home so far. The Eagles have taken four out of a possible six points away from home.

The most interesting betting odds in the Bundesliga on Matchday 7 are for Frankfurt to win a point against the Swabians. After all, the SGE has now been unbeaten in six meetings with VfB (three wins, three draws). With the double chance X2, most eventualities can be covered.

Dortmund vs. Schalke – 17 September, 15:30

After starting the new season very successfully with four wins from the first five league games, BVB suffered a 0:3 away defeat last Saturday at RB Leipzig, of all teams, who were coached by former coach Marco Rose for the first time in this match. The black-and-yellows must now recover from this as quickly as possible, because in the Revierderby against Schalker, who have returned to the Bundesliga, it is known that not only three points are at stake, but also prestige.

The Schalkers even go into the game with some momentum. After S04 initially failed to record a win for five matchdays, they recorded a 3:1 home victory in the other Revierderby against VfL Bochum last Saturday. After this knot was broken, the Royal Blues would love to follow it up with a win at their arch-rivals, but in our eyes this is an extremely difficult task considering the Knappen’s performance data so far.

Also, because the Gelsenkirchen team has been very vulnerable defensively in its games so far and has hardly been able to make an impact offensively, bets on a home win for the black and yellow team are by far the most likely in the Bundesliga on matchday 7. To boost the low quotes available for tip 1 a little, we recommend the handicap of -1 on BVB.

Gladbach vs. RB Leipzig – September 17, 18:30

Even on his Bundesliga debut as Leipzig coach, Marco Rose was able to snip his former club Borussia Dortmund and end the Saxons’ crisis with a brilliant 3-0 win. Now, with another win at a former employer of the new RBL coach, the knot could burst again in its entirety. And in view of the fact that the team from the Lower Rhine has increasingly lost its way after a good start, the Red Bulls have a remarkably good chance of winning the next match.

After Gladbach managed to collect seven out of nine possible points from the first three league games, the Foals did not win any of the following three league games (two draws, one defeat). Only last-placed Bochum scored fewer points in the same period – none at all. Against a resurgent Saxony, who will travel with the momentum of the brilliant and very strong 3:0 victory over BVB behind them, there is not much to be said for a turnaround for Farke’s team.

We therefore recommend betting odds for an away win for Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Matchday 7. A hedge via “Draw No Bet” would also be conceivable in principle, but is a bit too much at the expense of the odds, which is why it is more coherent to hedge with a free bet.

Union Berlin vs. Wolfsburg – 18 September, 15:30

There was a lot going on during the week at both 1. FC Union Berlin and VfL Wolfsburg. While the public booting out of Max Kruse following the 1-0 away win in Frankfurt was the dominant topic for the Lower Saxons, the spotlight was meanwhile increasingly on the Köpenickers, who surprisingly took over the top spot in the Bundesliga with a 1-0 win in Cologne last weekend.

For the Eisernen, Sunday’s match is therefore also about defending that place on the sunny side of the table. The capital city team’s record so far is certainly impressive. Union have picked up 14 of a possible 18 points and are now unbeaten in 13 games (ten wins, three draws).

Meanwhile, the Wolves have only one win to their name, which means that the home side are the clear favourites. However, because the Wolves have been defensively sound lately, while Union also focus primarily on basic compactness and stability, it makes the most sense to use the odds for under 2.5 goals in this match in the Bundesliga on Matchday 7.

Bochum vs Cologne – 18 September, 17:30

With six defeats from the first six league games, VfL Bochum experienced a terrible false start in the second year of their renewed affiliation to the Bundesliga. The Blue and Whites have been sub-par at times, even losing the Revierderby against Schalker, who were in poor form. With four goals, they have the weakest offensive and, with 18 goals conceded, the worst defence in the entire Bundesliga. Coach Thomas Reis was therefore sent out the door.

It is true that a change of coach can always give an impetus and have a positive effect, as RB Leipzig’s 3:0 win over Borussia Dortmund, which has already been mentioned several times, has just shown. However, because not only VfL showed very weak performances, but also 1. FC Köln got off to a really good start and picked up a solid nine points out of a possible 18, betting on an away win for the Cathedral City team is still the safest bet in the Bundesliga on Matchday 7. All the more so because remarkably high prices are available for tip 2, which definitely outweigh the risk of VfL breaking the deadlock after all.

Hoffenheim vs. Freiburg – 18 September, 19:30

Though TSG Hoffenheim started the new season with a failure with a 1:3 away defeat in Gladbach. Afterwards, the Sinsheimers flipped the switch and won four of their next five league games. The Black Forest side, meanwhile, also have four victories to their name, and after the fifth matchday they were even on the sunny side of the table for a week.

Both opponents in this Baden-Württemberg duel have already proven that they have the potential to finish in the top third of the table, as both teams have done in recent years. However, this makes it all the more difficult to bet on the outcome of this match, in which the form of the day is likely to play a major role. Because both the players from Kraichgau and the team from Breisgau have been convincing offensively so far, betting on more than 2.5 goals offers us the greatest value.
