Will Hertha fight back once more?
Five league games are still open in Germany’s top division and 15 points are still up for grabs. Accordingly, the question of the championship should already be settled, as FC Bayern already has a nine-point lead over main chaser Borussia Dortmund. The Reds, furious after their Champions League exit, also host Arminia Bielefeld on Easter Sunday – a team that has picked up just one of 18 possible points from its last six league games.
Also because of this poor return, the East Westphalians remain deep in the relegation battle. And Arminia could be under corresponding pressure on Easter Sunday if 17th-placed Hertha come to FC Augsburg the day before to earn a point. VfB Stuttgart are also far from out of the woods. Although they start the 30th matchday in 15th place, they are only one point ahead of the first relegation place. Meanwhile, the Swabians, who are weak away from home, have to face Mainz, who are strong at home, in a South-West clash.
The question of who will represent the Bundesliga in the European competitions also remains an exciting one. After a show of strength against Hoffenheim, there are increasing signs that RB Leipzig could join Bayern, Dortmund and Leverkusen in the Champions League. However, the red bulls have to play Leverkusen on Sunday evening. If the Saxons lose there, Freiburg, Hoffenheim and even Union Berlin will suddenly have a chance of reaching the top flight. All three of them are also in the fight for the Europa League and Conference League together with Cologne.
Dortmund vs. Wolfsburg – 16 April, 15:30
Borussia Dortmund lost their last home match against RB Leipzig surprisingly clearly with 1:4. In fact, however, it was the only defeat of the black and yellow in the last eight league matches (five wins, two draws). BVB will go into the clash with VfL Wolfsburg in correspondingly good form, as the Westphalians have not lost any of their last 13 encounters in the Bundesliga (twelve wins, one draw).
The Lower Saxons, on the other hand, have lost three of their last four league games and, with only 33 goals scored, have the fifth-worst offensive performance in the top flight of German football. In view of the fact that Dortmund have scored nil in five of their twelve games in the second half of the season, betting on a home win for the black-and-yellow team on matchday 30 in the Bundesliga is really a no-brainer. It is therefore all the more worthwhile to check whether a betting provider is offering increased odds at short notice for this match.
Freiburg vs. Bochum – 16 April, 15:30
The thing SC Freiburg and VfL Bochum have in common is that both teams are much better in the table than they probably thought they would be before the season. The Black Forest side are still fighting for the Champions League, just three points behind fourth place, and have their best Bundesliga points tally since the 1994/95 season, while the team from the Ruhr region is as good as saved, with a ten-point lead over the relegation place.
This also shows that there is much more at stake for the Sport-Club in this duel. Accordingly, it is coherent to place bets on a home win for Streich’s eleven in the Bundesliga on matchday 30, especially as Freiburg have only lost one of their eight compulsory home games against Bochum (four wins, three draws) and only just eliminated VfL 2-1 in the DFB Pokal on 2 March.
Mainz vs. VfB Stuttgart – 16 April, 15:30
1. FSV Mainz 05 have shown two completely different faces so far in the 2021/22 season. According to the home table, the Nullfünfer are in fourth place and would be on course for the Champions League. If, on the other hand, the away table is taken into account, they would have to go into the relegation play-offs in 16th place. Accordingly, the Rheinhessen team benefits from having home advantage in this south-west duel.
The Swabians, too, have won the majority of their points at home and have only one win from 14 away matches. Only Fürth won less often away from home (zero times). Accordingly, it would be consistent to make predictions on Mainz winning the Bundesliga on matchday 30. If it weren’t for the recent form curve. The Nullfünfer have won only one of their last six league games (one draw, four defeats), while VfB have picked up eight of a possible 15 points from their last five games.
Because momentum plays a key role in the predictions, we’re betting on both teams to score in a match in which the Swabians in particular need every single point in the bottom of the table.
Augsburg vs. Hertha – 16 April, 15:30
The situation is becoming increasingly precarious for Hertha BSC. Although the “Big City Club” won their first competitive match since Tayfun Korkut’s departure against Hoffenheim 3-0, they have recently suffered two defeats in a row again. No team has lost more games in the second half of the season (nine out of twelve) and scored even slightly less points (five) than the Berliners, who also conceded by far the most goals in the second half of the season (31).
All of this clearly speaks against the Herthans, who, however, desperately need points in the basement duel with FCA, who have won three of their last five league games (two defeats), in order to stay in the relegation zone. After all, the Capitals have lost only one of their last 14 Bundesliga games against the Fuggerstädter. In the Bundesliga on matchday 30, the betting odds for a home win by the Bavarian Swabians are very tempting. However, the bet on more than 2.5 goals offers the significantly greater value.
Gladbach vs. Cologne – 16 April, 18:30
At the beginning of March, Adi Hütter was on the verge of being sacked after only one point out of a possible nine with 4:11 goals. But then the form curve at the Foals clearly showed an upward trend. Since the 2-0 home win over Hertha, the team from the Lower Rhine has picked up ten of a possible twelve points from four consecutive league games. This means that Europe is no longer in sight. But at least Borussia successfully banished the spectre of relegation.
A win in the derby would be all the more important for the morale of the Foals, as it would give the Effzeh, who are only one point behind in sixth place and still hoping to qualify for an international competition, a run for their money. However, the Geißböcke are in good form and have only lost two of their last seven league games. With this in mind, it makes more sense to bet on a high-scoring derby instead of using the vague three-way system. We recommend betting on over 2.5 goals with goals on both sides.
Bielefeld vs. Bayern – 17 April, 15:30
For a long time, everything looked like Arminia Bielefeld could hold their own in the Bundesliga for the second year in a row. But then the East Westphalians slid into a lasting crisis. Kramer’s team scored only one goal in the last six league games, which resulted in only one point out of a possible 18. It is only because of their better goal difference than Berlin that the Arminen are still in the relegation zone and not in the first relegation place.
It is all the worse for the hosts that a frustrated FC Bayern will now arrive with a lot of anger in their bellies, who only have the Bundesliga left after their surprising exit in the Champions League quarter-finals. Accordingly, there is a lot of value in the Bundesliga on matchday 30 for a landslide victory for the Reds, with Lewandowski and Co shooting the frustration they built up against Villarreal off their chest.
Given the poor form of the East Westphalians, we don’t expect too many goals to be conceded, which makes betting on the Bavarians with a handicap of -2 very popular. That corresponds to an away win with at least a three-goal difference.
Union Berlin vs. Frankfurt – 17 April, 17:30
For the first time since the departure of Max Kruse during the winter break, 1. FC Union Berlin have won two consecutive league games. In the process, the Eisernen outplayed city rivals Hertha in the derby last Saturday and consolidated seventh place. The gap to fifth place is only four points, which means that the Europa League is still an issue for the Köpenickers.
Eintracht Frankfurt, on the other hand, are nine points behind fifth place and have only a slim chance of qualifying for Europe again, which is mainly due to their poor second half of the season. The Hessians picked up just twelve points in the second half of the season – their weakest haul since 2016/17. At least, however, the SGE’s record against the Eisernen is respectable. The team from the Main metropolis has only lost one competitive match against Union Berlin. We therefore recommend using the betting odds for goals on both sides in the Bundesliga on Matchday 30.
Hoffenheim vs. Fürth – 17 April 2022, 17:30
TSG Hoffenheim already finished a total of seven matchdays in a starting position for the Champions League and could accordingly have high hopes of reaching the top flight. However, they have already lost six of their twelve league games in the second half of the season – one more than in the entire first half – and are now seven points off fourth place after the recent 3-0 defeat in Leipzig.
The Sinsheim side’s chances have shrunk accordingly, but they now welcome a guest against whom they have already scored twelve goals in three Bundesliga matches – an average of four per game. And because the cloverleaf is still without a win away from home (two draws, twelve defeats), everything points to a clear home victory for TSG. We recommend boosting the odds in the Bundesliga on matchday 30 with a small handicap (-1), which corresponds to a home win for the men from Kraichgau with at least a two-goal difference.
Leverkusen vs. RB Leipzig – 17 April 2022, 19:30
On Easter Sunday, the 30th matchday of the Bundesliga will be concluded with the top match of the week when Bayer Leverkusen, currently third in the table, host fourth. The red bulls could even climb to third place with an away win at the Werkself and confirm their impressive form in the second half of the season. No other team scored as many points in the second half of the season as the Saxons (29 out of a possible 36), lost so rarely (only once) and conceded so few goals (nine).
In our eyes, the red bulls are accordingly favoured, especially as the Werkself have only won two of their last seven competitive matches (two draws, three defeats) and most recently did not manage more than a goalless draw against VfL Bochum. In addition, the Rhinelanders only have a win rate of 18% against RBL. Nevertheless, it is advisable to hedge your bets on Domenico Tedesco’s selection in the Bundesliga on matchday 30 with a “Draw No Bet” against the possibility of a draw.
