19 of 34 matchdays in the Bundesliga have been completed and after their slip-up in the first competitive match of the 2022 calendar year, leaders Bayern Munich bounced back with a commanding 4-0 away win in Cologne last weekend. The Reds thus retain a six-point lead over Borussia Dortmund and are heading towards defending the title.

But at the latest behind the black and yellows, things are getting extremely tight. Bayer Leverkusen (32 points), currently third in the table, and 1. FC Köln (28 points), currently ninth, are separated by just four points, which means that no preliminary decisions have yet been made in the battle for Europe. Even the teams from the lower half of the table could still join the race if they have the right run in the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, the situation in the bottom half of the table continues to deteriorate. VfB Stuttgart, who have just slipped into a relegation spot, are only four points behind twelfth place, which means that the game is far from over in terms of relegation. Even bottom-placed Fürth have lost only one of their last five league games and, despite the enormous gap to the relegation zone, still have a glimmer of hope.

Frankfurt vs. Bielefeld – 21 January, 20:30

Arminia Bielefeld have now been unbeaten for four league games in a row, with the East Westphalians climbing to 16th place at the weekend. The Arminia just managed to escape with a black eye in the 2:2 draw at home against last-place Greuther Fürth after a dream goal by Gonzalo Castro, and now face another tough challenge at in-form Hessen.

The team from the Main metropolis has picked up ten of a possible 15 points from the last five games and has also been on the rise in recent months with a place in the last 16 of the Europa League. Since the SGE has not lost to Bielefeld in eight league games in a row (three wins, five draws) and has a fundamental home advantage, betting tips on a home win for the Adler are very good in the Bundesliga on matchday 20. Accordingly, we recommend tip 1.

Leverkusen vs. Augsburg – 22 January, 15:30

Even two missed penalties could not change the fact that Bayer Leverkusen, after four league games in a row without a win, were able to gain an important 2-1 away victory at Borussia Mönchengladbach at the weekend. As a result, the Werkself returned to third place in the table and can still hope to qualify for the Champions League under Gerardo Seoane.

Now FC Augsburg will be visiting the BayArena, a team that has not only failed to win any of its 21 Bundesliga games against Leverkusen so far (seven draws, 14 defeats), but has also been in poor form recently. FCA has been waiting for another three-goal win for four league games. Accordingly, there is no alternative to betting on a three-goal win for the Werkself in the Bundesliga on matchday 20. Since the prices available for this are not too high, we choose the bet that Seoane’s team is already in the lead at the break.

Gladbach vs. Union Berlin – 22 January, 15:30

While 1. FC Union Berlin defeated TSG Hoffenheim 2-1 at the weekend, even in the absence of goal-scorer Taiwo Awoniyi (Africa Cup), who had been unbeaten for seven games, and climbed to fifth place, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s downward trend continued.

Although the Foals beat FC Bayern 2-1 away from home in the first competitive match of the new year, it was in fact the only three points the team from the Lower Rhine had managed to win in the last seven league matches (one draw, five defeats). However, it has to be said that the Eisern have their strength first and foremost in their own stadium. Union have only won two of their nine league games away from home in the 2021/22 season.

Accordingly, it is difficult to make predictions on the three-way system in this Bundesliga clash on matchday 20. All the more reason to bet on both teams scoring. After all, the Berliners have always scored at least one goal of their own against the Foals in all of their five games in the top flight of German football.

Freiburg vs. VfB Stuttgart – 22 January, 15:30

Due to a 0:2 home defeat against RB Leipzig, VfB Stuttgart slipped below the line at the weekend. The Swabians occupy a direct relegation spot in 17th place and must now extricate themselves from their misery in the Baden-Württemberg derby at SC Freiburg, of all places. After all, the Swabians have such a high win rate against no other team against which VfB has played at least ten times in the Bundesliga (42%).

However, it is problematic that the white and red team has not scored a goal of its own in the Bundesliga for 387 minutes. That makes a total of four goalless matches in a row, even though they were against teams like Fürth, who are by no means strong defensively. The betting odds for a low-scoring Baden-Württemberg derby in the Bundesliga on matchday 20 are correspondingly interesting.

After all, the Black Forest side are not in as good a shape as they were in the first third of the season. Christian Streich’s men have lost five of their last nine league games (two wins, two draws). We are therefore betting on under 2.5 goals.

Hoffenheim vs. Dortmund – 22 January, 15:30

The top match of Matchday 20 will take place in Sinsheim when current fourth-placed Hoffenheim welcome current Bayern chasers Borussia Dortmund. If the season were over now, both teams would represent the Bundesliga in the Champions League for the new season. Accordingly, a lot is to be expected from this duel, as the kickers from the Kraichgau look to erase their recent slip-up at Union Berlin (1:2). It was Hoffenheim’s only defeat in their last eight league games (five wins, two draws).

On the other hand, BVB, who are currently in trouble over the contract of superstar Erling Haaland and who lost to St. Pauli in the cup last week, have won both their Bundesliga games in 2022 with 8:3 goals. Accordingly, it could be a high-scoring affair in this top match, especially since TSG should have little respect for a possible deficit. The Sinsheimers have already picked up eleven points after being behind.

Considering that the two teams that scored the most goals in the final quarter of the league (13 each) are facing each other, it could be very intense in Sinsheim if BVB also wants to get the cup frustration off their chest. A lot of value can therefore be found in betting on over 3.5 goals.

Fürth vs. Mainz – 22 January, 15:30

After initially picking up just a single point out of a possible 42 from their first 14 league games, the cloverleaf finally broke the deadlock on matchday 15 in a 1-0 home win over Union Berlin. Since then, the Central Franconians have lost only one of their last five league games, scoring three times and increasing their points tally to a total of seven. Despite their renewed hope, however, they still have to contend with an eleven-point gap between themselves and the bottom of the league.

The Spielvereinigung now have to play at home against in-form Mainz, who were one of the best teams in the Bundesliga in the 2021 calendar year and also won their last home match against VfL Bochum 1-0. Because the Rheinhessen side also won their only Bundesliga away game to date in Fürth by a very clear 3-0 scoreline, bets on another three-goal win for the Nullfünfer are correspondingly high in the Bundesliga on matchday 20, despite the upward trend in the cloverleaf.

Bochum vs. Cologne – 22 January, 18:30

In the meantime, VfL Bochum could really gain momentum. Between the eighth and 14th matchday, the men from the Ruhr area celebrated five of their seven victories and thus knocked on the upper half of the table. Recently, however, the once so grey mouse has lost three of its last four league games and scored only one goal in this period.

The players from the city of Grönemeyer will be under pressure on matchday 20, because 1. FC Köln, an ambitious guest who has won three of the last four league games, is coming to the Ruhr area. Only in the home match against FC Bayern did the cathedral city suffer a severe setback last Saturday (0:4). Accordingly, there is a lot of value in betting on a point win for the Geißböcke.

Because the betting odds for the double chance X2 in the Bundesliga on matchday 20 are a bit too low on their own, we combine this tip with a bet on less than 3.5 goals. After all, the goal odds for Bochum against the “Effzeh” are very low with only 61 goals in 59 Bundesliga duels.

RB Leipzig vs. Wolfsburg – 23 January, 15:30

For a long time, RB Leipzig had the well-known football saying “at home, wow, away”. However, after eight away games in a row without a win, the knot burst in a 2-0 victory in Stuttgart at the weekend and the red bulls can now look upwards again in a complicated season. In general, the Saxons have been recharging their batteries during the winter break and have picked up a maximum of six points with 6:1 goals in 2022.

VfL Wolfsburg, meanwhile, continues its downward slide unchecked. Even after the change of coach, nothing is going right for the Wolves, who have now waited eight league games for another win (two draws, six defeats). In view of the fact that RBL’s greatest strength is at home, the Lower Saxons should have little to gain at the Red Bull Arena.

Accordingly, we recommend the odds for a home win for the red bulls in the Bundesliga on matchday 20, who have not lost any of their last six home games against the Wolves (four wins, two draws).

Hertha vs. Bayern – 23 January, 17:30

Under Tayfun Korkut, Hertha BSC not only managed to stop the downward trend against Arminia Bielefeld in a 2-0 home win and then even beat BVB 3-2 at home. In the new year, however, the old lady was rudely brought back down to earth. The yield of only one point out of a possible six from the two games against Cologne and Wolfsburg showed once again how far the capital city team is from becoming a top club, let alone developing anything more consistent.

Accordingly, the reality ahead of the home match against the German record champions is once again only relegation fight for the old lady, who could only win one of the last 21 Bundesliga matches against the FCB (four draws, 16 defeats). Accordingly, there is no alternative in the Bundesliga on matchday 20 to bet on an away win for the Reds, who recently showed themselves to be as dominant as ever in the 4-0 win in Cologne.

Also in view of the fact that Robert Lewandowski is likely to be highly motivated after being voted FIFA World Player again, there is a lot to be said for the next unchallenged Bayern victory with at least a two-goal difference.
