How will Dortmund react to the 2:5 home defeat by Leverkusen?
On the 21st matchday of the Bundesliga, FC Bayern München’s lead over main chaser Borussia Dortmund increased. While the Reds won their top match at home against RB Leipzig 3:2, BVB suffered a bitter 2:5 home defeat against Bayer Leverkusen. This means that there is now a nine-point difference between the two top German clubs, which is tantamount to a small preliminary decision in terms of the championship.
However, 13 matchdays are still open, which is why the reaction of the Black and Yellows will be particularly interesting on the upcoming 22nd matchday, when they play host to 1. FC Union Berlin. Bayern, on the other hand, will have to prove themselves at VfL Bochum in the absence of regular keeper Manuel Neuer. Meanwhile, crisis-ridden Gladbach will be hoping for a turnaround at home to FC Augsburg
There is plenty of excitement in the bottom of the table as Greuther Fürth look to bounce back at home against Hertha, while Bielefeld visit Hoffenheim and VfB Stuttgart face an in-form Werkself in Leverkusen. The matchday will also open with a clash between two direct neighbours in the table, with RB Leipzig and 1. FC Köln fighting for a European starting place. All in all, that makes for nine highly explosive matches for which Bundesliga matchday 22 betting odds and tips are available on this page.
RB Leipzig vs. Cologne – 11 February, 20:30
1. FC Köln failed to win the DFB Pokal at home against second division Hamburger SV and lost 4-0 at home against FC Bayern in the league. In fact, however, these were the only two defeats for the Cathedral City team in the last seven competitive matches. The Geißböcke will come to Leipzig in correspondingly good form. The Effzeh have been unbeaten away from home for five league games in a row.
RB Leipzig, on the other hand, made a very strong comeback in the new year. The Saxons won all three league games in 2022 and also reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal. In total, they had four wins from four games with 10:1 goals on record, before Tedesco’s team suffered its first defeat of the new year at the weekend with a 2:3 loss in Munich.
Accordingly, it is difficult to recommend betting tips on the outcome of two in-form teams in the Bundesliga on Matchday 22. Although RBL are very strong at home, they have not been able to win any of their last three games against the Cathedral City side. The greatest value is therefore offered by betting that both teams will score.
Frankfurt vs. Wolfsburg – 12 February, 15:30
Although Eintracht Frankfurt ended the year 2021 very conciliatory with three wins in a row. With two home defeats and only one of nine possible points from the first three games in 2022, the new year started all the weaker. At least the Eagles got back on track last weekend with a 3:2 away win in Stuttgart. However, the Hessians continue to struggle at home.
The team from the Main metropolis has only scored 13 points in ten Bundesliga home games, which means that VfL Wolfsburg, who recorded their first win after nine league games in a row, could well have something to gain in Frankfurt last weekend. After all, the Wolves have always scored at least one goal of their own in 18 consecutive league games against the SGE.
Also, because betting on the outcome of this match is not quite as easy in the Bundesliga on matchday 22, goal bets are also a good option in this duel. In view of Wolfsburg’s series against the Hessians, goals on both sides are likely in this match as well.
Gladbach vs. Augsburg – 12 February, 15:30
Borussia Mönchengladbach continue to be in deep crisis. The Foals are going through their worst season since 2010/11, when they picked up just 16 points from 21 games. With the current 23 points, Hütter’s team is only in 13th place and could theoretically even slip to the relegation zone in the event of a home defeat against FC Augsburg. Accordingly, this match has a lot of endgame character.
Although the record speaks in favour of the Foals, who have never lost to Augsburg in all six Bundesliga home games so far. However, the last two encounters both went to FCA, who also showed a lot of bite last weekend and marked an important 2-0 home victory over 1. FC Union Berlin after five winless league games in a row.
Accordingly, it is difficult to make accurate predictions on the outcome of the Bundesliga match on matchday 22, as a point win for the Fuggerstädter cannot be ruled out in view of the Fohlen’s lack of form. Meanwhile, we see the greatest value in betting that a maximum of two goals will be scored at Borussia Park.
Freiburg vs. Mainz – 12 February, 15:30
After the first leg, Christian Streich still elevated 1. FSV Mainz 05 as candidates for Europe. At the moment, however, only Sport-Club are in fifth place in the table for an international spot. With three points less on their account, the Nullfünfer are now only in tenth place. However, the Rheinhessen side shook off a brief period of weakness, losing four of five consecutive competitive matches, with a 2-0 victory over TSG Hoffenheim at the weekend.
The Black Forest side, on the other hand, remained unbeaten in three consecutive home games but suffered a 1-0 away defeat in Cologne on Saturday. With 18 points out of a possible 30 at home, the SCF will nevertheless go into the clash with an opponent who is well-suited to the club from Breisgau. The Mainz team has not won against any other Bundesliga team as often as against the Sport-Club (14 times).
In this match, too, it makes sense to bet on a goal. In view of the fact that Freiburg have always scored against Mainz in all of their twelve Bundesliga home games so far, betting odds for over 2.5 goals in this south-west German clash are the most recommendable in the Bundesliga on matchday 22.
Bochum vs. Bayern – 12 February, 15:30
FC Bayern München took a big step towards their next German championship last weekend with a 3-2 home win over RB Leipzig, with Dortmund later losing at home to Leverkusen. Nevertheless, the Reds also experienced slight setbacks. The fact that Niklas Süle is joining Dortmund, of all national rivals, at the end of the season is definitely an affront. In addition, Julian Nagelsmann will have to do without his regular keeper Manuel Neuer, who has undergone knee surgery, in the coming weeks.
Nevertheless, this should not dampen the Munich team’s momentum. Recently, the FCB has been running like clockwork away from home, scoring at least four goals of their own in their last three league games away from home. Also in view of the fact that the VfL was already completed 7:0 in the first leg, corresponding bets on an unchallenged victory for Bayern are again under correspondingly favourable omens. Most recently, the Bochum side won only one of their last seven league games and are not going into this home game in too much form…
Fürth vs. Hertha – 12 February, 15:30
SpVgg Greuther Fürth still hold the red lantern in the Bundesliga, losing 15 of their first 21 league games and picking up just ten points. Nevertheless, the form curve has recently been on the rise, as four league games in a row without a defeat marked the longest unbeaten streak of the Central Franconians in the Bundesliga to date. A streak that is still alive in their own stadium, by the way, as the cloverleaf is still unbeaten at home for four league games.
Moreover, Fürth have conceded just one goal in their last four home games, from which they have picked up eight of a possible twelve points. Accordingly, betting on the next points win for the Central Franconians on Matchday 22 in the Bundesliga will be interesting. After all, Hertha will arrive in poor form and have not yet won a single match in 2022 (two draws, three defeats).
Accordingly, the bet on the double chance 1X seems to us to be coherent. Since we don’t expect too many goals, we combine this tip with a bet that a maximum of three goals will be scored.
Leverkusen vs. VfB Stuttgart – 12 February, 18:30
With a surprising 5-2 away win at Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen impressively confirmed their high level of form at the start of the second half of the season at the weekend. The Werkself now has ten out of a possible twelve points from the first four games of the second half of the season and improved its goal difference by +8 with 14:6 goals, which is Leverkusen’s best start to a Bundesliga second half since the 1991/92 season.
Of all teams, the Bundesliga’s currently weakest team must now travel to an opponent in such good form. VfB Stuttgart have been waiting for another win in six league games (one win, five defeats) and are already four points behind the relegation zone. The Swabians also travel with the worst away attack in the Bundesliga (only six goals away from home).
Accordingly, we expect the Werkself to continue their winning streak and to have already set the course for success at the break. We therefore recommend the betting odds for the half-time final score bet 1/1 in the Bundesliga on Matchday 22.
Union Berlin vs. Dortmund – 13 February, 15:30
In terms of the table, it’s the top match of Matchday 22 as current fourth-placed Union Berlin host second-placed Borussia Dortmund. However, neither side looked like teams that could play in the Champions League in the 2022/23 season last weekend.
The black and yellows lost 5-2 at home to Leverkusen, while the Eisern suffered a serious setback in a 2-0 defeat at relegation-threatened FC Augsburg after five consecutive league games without defeat. The Bundesliga odds on the 22nd matchday are clearly in favour of the visitors from Westphalia. However, given Berlin’s home strength, no outcome can be ruled out. All the more reason to bet on a high-scoring match with more than 2.5 goals in this clash.
Hoffenheim vs. Bielefeld – 13 February, 17:30
After temporarily flying high with seven league games in a row without defeat, TSG Hoffenheim have recently suffered several setbacks. In addition to their exit in the last 16 of the DFB Pokal, they have lost three league games in a row, which has caused them to slip back to eighth place in the table.
Now Arminia, who are in good form, are in Sinsheim. The East Westphalians have not lost any of their last six league games (three wins, three draws) and have thus left the relegation places. Bielefeld, who are 15th in the table, are above the drop zone due to their better goal difference and would like to improve on that in Kraichgau in order to stay in the relegation zone. However, the Kramer team’s attack will have to step up its game.
Not only did Bielefeld score only one goal in five Bundesliga games against TSG. The only 21 goals from 21 league games also currently give Arminia the third-worst offence in the league. Accordingly, it is interesting to bet on a maximum of one team scoring on match day 22 in the Bundesliga. This allows you to cover eventualities such as a 0:0 or a 1:0 away win.
