Will Wolves end their goalless streak at Brighton?

After a shaky start to the season with four defeats in their first five league games, Wolverhampton Wanderers picked up 13 points from a possible 15 in their subsequent five games. However, instead of stabilising themselves in the long term, the Wolves not only went winless again in four league games, but also failed to score a goal of their own.

Bruno Lage’s team now visits the south coast of England, where Brighton have one of the safest defences in the Premier League. Accordingly, in the run-up to the encounter between Brighton and Wolverhampton, the odds are swinging in the direction of the home side, who have lost just three of their 15 league games.

However, the Seagulls have only scored six goals in seven games at home so far. Only Norwich and the upcoming visitors from Wolverhampton have been tamer at home with five goals each. In fact, two of the weakest defensive teams in the Premier League face each other today. Both teams average less than one goal per league match.

Accordingly, betting on less than 2.5 goals for Brighton against Wolverhampton is very popular. Moreover, more goals have only been scored in two of the last 13 encounters between the two clubs.

Brighton – Statistics & current form

With four wins from their opening five league games, Brighton & Hove Albion got off to a superb start in what is currently their fifth consecutive year in the Premier League.

However, the Seagulls, who for a short time even dreamed of reaching a European competition for the first time in their club’s history, were unable to build on this strong start. Of the ten league games that followed, the men from the south of England did not win a single match.

First three defeats in the first 15 league games

The credit from the strong start to the season has not yet been used up, however, especially as only two of the last ten league games were also lost in the end.

The other eight league games all ended in draws, so that the Seagulls already have 20 points on their account. The southerners thus have the fourth fewest defeats of all 20 Premier League teams on their account.

With one game left to play, Albion start the week in fifth place and would promptly return to the top half of the table with a home win over Wolves, who are only one point better off.

The fourth best defence in the Premier League

The Seagulls are even favoured going into their home game against the Wanderers, despite not having won any of their five league games against Wolves recently (four draws, one defeat).

Albion’s main advantage is their solid defence, which has only conceded 16 goals in 16 league games. With the visitors failing to score in four successive league games, another win to nil for the Seagulls could be the key to success.

Wolverhampton – Statistics & current form

Wolverhampton Wanderers underwent upheaval in the summer when long-time successful coach Nuno Espírito Santo, who led the club from second-tier status to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, left the club.

Under successor Bruno Lage, the knot burst late before 13 of a possible 15 points from five consecutive league games were taken between the end of September and the beginning of November. Most recently, however, Wolves were in trouble again.

The second weakest attack in the Premier League

The men from the West Midlands have not won any of their last four league games. While the two narrow 1-0 defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool FC were certainly bearable, the two goalless draws against Norwich and Burnley definitely hurt.

This means that the Wanderers have been goalless for four consecutive league games, which is also the club’s stated problem. After all, with only twelve goals scored from 16 league games, Wolves have the second weakest attack in the Premier League behind bottom-placed Norwich.

Only 14 goals conceded in 16 league games

At all, it is surprising that with only 12 goals scored, six victories have already been recorded, which was primarily thanks to the defence, which only conceded 14 goals. In this way, five of the six victories were achieved with a minimalist one-goal difference.

Considering that there was an average of just 1.6 goals per Wolves game, this visit to the defensively compact Seagulls has all the makings of another low-scoring league game. Accordingly, there is a lot of value to be found in Brighton’s betting on under 2.5 goals against Wolverhampton. Finally, with Raúl Jiménez now missing, the top scorer is also suspended.

Predicted Wolverhampton line-up:

Sá – Ait Nouri – Saiss – Coady – Kilman – Semedo – Neves – Moutinho – Dendoncker – Traoré – Hwang

Brighton – Wolverhampton Direct comparison / H2H record

Head to head: 15 – 14 – 7

There have been a total of 36 meetings between the two teams and the Seagulls lead the direct comparison with 15 victories. However, Albion are currently on a five-match winless streak against Wolves (four draws, one defeat).

Brighton – Wolverhampton Tip

With Brighton vs Wolverhampton, the prediction has to take into account that both teams are very similar. For both teams, the points are taken from a very compact and stable defence. And both teams usually don’t have much going forward. On average, the two offensives score less than one goal per league match.

In a match in which, apart from the not improbable 0:0, only a single goal could decide the outcome, the greatest value can logically be found in bets on a low-scoring encounter.

We recommend betting on less than 2.5 goals, for which odds of 1.58 are available on Brighton vs Wolverhampton.
