Are the Magpies still waiting for their first win?
Eighth-placed Brighton welcome second-bottom Newcastle. The visitors are the only team in the Premier League, apart from bottom-placed Norwich, who have still not won a league match. After ten rounds of matches, this is the weakest start in the club’s history.
The situation is much friendlier for the visitors: Although they have not won for five rounds, the hosts still occupy a respectable eighth place in the table. Most recently, they were able to take a point back to the south coast even at Anfield Road.
For the upcoming clash between Brighton and Newcastle, the forecast includes a home win.
Brighton – Statistics & current form
The Seagulls made it back to the British top flight in 2017 after 34 years of abstinence. Subsequently, however, Albion have only ever just managed to stay in the division: Two 15th-place finishes were the best results at the end of the season. This season, things could be much better for the Seagulls for the first time.
They currently occupy eighth place, and their comparatively successful interim record was achieved primarily in defence: Only four teams in the Premier League have conceded fewer goals so far. This was not necessarily to be expected, as the powerful central defender Ben White was transferred to the Gunners for almost 60 million euros before the season.
Otherwise, however, the squad has been kept together as far as possible and this is now paying off with an already well-coordinated team. In the attack, Neal Maupay is once again reliable. With four goals, the French centre-forward leads the club’s internal goal-scoring charts.
Will the home side at least score twice?
Admittedly, with an average of around one goal per game, the offensive still has room for improvement, but against the very weak defence of the visitors, they should do better this time. With this in mind, odds on more than one goal by coach Graham Potter’s side in the match between Brighton and Newcastle are also a good idea.
In addition, bets on a home win by zero are a good idea. This is not only due to the strong home defence and harmless attack of the visitors, but also due to the statistics. Newcastle have not scored against Brighton in four matches, and the Magpies have failed to score in seven of their last eight encounters!

Newcastle – Statistics & current form
United continue to get nowhere. Although coach Steve Bruce was sacked after the third last matchday, interim coach Graeme Jones has so far failed to turn things around at Newcastle. On his debut, he recorded a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace, followed by a 3-0 defeat to league leaders Chelsea.
Of course, it is possible to lose against the in-form Blues, but Tuchel’s side were without Lukaku and Werner up front, so conceding three goals again was disappointing for the visitors. The weakness of the defence can also be seen in the highest value of the expected goals of the opponents.
This is 20.2 goals and only Norwich has conceded more in the league. A clean sheet has also not yet been achieved – again a negative record, which otherwise only Watford has. Furthermore, no team in the Premier League allows more shots on goal (163) than the four-time champions, last in 1927.
Only Wilson regularly radiates goal threat
The offense has not been efficient on the road to date either. However, at least Callum Wilson must be exempt from this criticism. The Briton has marked four goals and thus 40 percent of all goals scored by the visitors. His tally is all the better because the 29-year-old has been injured for a while and has only played six league games.
Predicted Newcastle line-up:
Darlow – Krafth – Manquillo – Lascelles – Clarke – Ritchie – Hayden – Fraser – Longstaff – Wilson – Saint-Maxim

10/30 2021 – Newcastle United 0 – 3 Chelsea London
10/23 2021 – Crystal Palace 1 – 1 Newcastle United
10/17 2021 – Newcastle United 2 – 3 Tottenham
10/02 2021 – Wolverhampton 2 – 1 Newcastle United
09/25 2021 – Watford 1 – 1 Newcastle United
Brighton – Newcastle Direct Comparison / H2H Record
The winners of the FA Community Shield in 1910 beat United 3-0 on their own ground in their last direct encounter almost eight months ago. This was a repeat of the result from the first leg!
Furthermore, the home side have remained unbeaten in eight meetings (4-4-0) and have never lost to United at Premier League level. For the next edition of Brighton v Newcastle, the odds are leaning towards an extension of that streak.
Brighton – Newcastle Tip
The Blue and Whites can be happy with the way the season has gone so far. Last year’s 16th placed side are eighth and have only lost two of their ten league games. For the match between Brighton and Newcastle, the tip is therefore aiming for a home win.
After the two very difficult games against the champions from Manchester and Liverpool, United are clearly an easier opponent, which is why the next three points for the home side are in sight after five winless rounds. The visitors have been a complete disappointment so far and only occupy penultimate place in the table.
Even the interim solution with Jones as coach has not brought about an upswing. The six-time FA Cup winners are particularly weak defensively: only bottom-of-the-table Norwich have conceded more goals than last season’s twelfth-placed team.
Last but not least, Brighton are a fearful opponent for the Magpies: they have never won against the Seagulls in eight attempts in the Premier League. Bwin offers betting odds of 1.65 on the Brighton-Newcastle clash.
