The Brazilians are the big favourites for this Copa America. In the preliminary round, the Sugarloaf kickers met their role and did not take a defeat. Chile was not very convincing in the group phase and only got a threesome in four attempts. The team will not have an easy stand against the Selecao on Saturday, 03.07. at 02:00 o’clock, in the Olympic Stadium João Havelange in the Brazilian metropolis Rio de Janeiro. After ten victories in a row, Brazil had to live with a draw on the last group match day against Ecuador. But there could hardly be a better time. The eleven of coach Tite managed to convince in group B. Three of the four preliminaries should be won. The first matchday brought a clear 3-0 win against Venezuela. Peru was then defeated 4-0. Colombia also had a 2-1 lead after 90 minutes. Recently, as already mentioned, the points were shared with Ecuador. With ten captured counters, Brazil ranks at the top of Group B. The lead on the second place in the table from Peru scores three points. The offensive led to ten goals and only two goals were conceded to the defence. Neymar has been in the group twice and is Brazil’s best attacker.
The odds show that Brazil is very likely to defend the title. Only Argentina remains one of the narrower favourites.

The Chileans played the last group game against Paraguay. The team of coach Martin Lasarte struggled very hard against low standing “guaranies”. Although “la Roja” had a lot more of the game and sometimes showed more than 68 percent possession of the ball, he was unable to convert these field advantages into goal possibilities. Paraguay, for its part, repeatedly put the Chilean defence under pressure with its fast switching game. In the 33rd minute, Samudio led Paraguay. Even after the change of sides Chile showed problems. The team had more of the game, but found no way to balance. It was supposed to be even worse when Miguel Almiron turned a penalty into a 2-0 Paraguayan. In the end, it stayed that way.
Due to the bankruptcy on the last matchday, Chile fell to the penultimate place in Group A. Only one of the four group games could be won. This one success was achieved after a lacklustre 1-0 victory over Bolivia. The points should be shared with Argentina and Uruguay. The offensive scored three goals and the defense scored four goals on the other side. The gap with Argentina was five points. Eduardo Vargas is Chile’s best attacker in the Copa with two goals.
At this year’s Copa America, the 2016 title holder takes on the clear role of an outsider. This is more than clear from the quotas. But maybe a big surprise can be provided in the quarter-finals?
