Will Bournemouth prevail against the Toffees?
In the EFL Cup, the field of participants has meanwhile become considerably smaller. Numerous clubs from the lower leagues have already been eliminated, which is why there are already cup duels between first division teams in the round of 32. For example, Bournemouth and Everton will meet this week
The Cherries benefit from home advantage. Nevertheless, there is – at least according to the best bookmakers – no clear favourite in the cup match between the two clubs. For a Bournemouth vs. Everton bet on the winner, odds in the 2.70 range are currently offered on the 1X2 market.
The two clubs have yet to play each other in the Premier League. However, the last time Bournemouth met the Toffees just under two years ago, it was an emphatic 3-1 win. This was the Cherries’ second successive win in a competitive match against the Toffees.
In the last three years, the best result for AFC Bournemouth in the EFL Cup has been the third cup round. There is a tendency for that negative trend to continue this time around. In the Premier League, there have already been four defeats in a row recently.
Bournemouth – statistics & current form
Things have gone downhill for AFC Bournemouth ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Cherries have squandered any momentum after a strong start to the season and are now only 17th in the table. The lead over the relegation places remained unchanged thanks to support, but with only one point, the cushion is vanishingly small.
Last week, the team of AFC coach Gary O’Neil, who took over the Cherries as an interim solution until the World Cup break, lost the match against Leeds and thus remained without a point in the English top flight for the fourth time in a row. The defeat was a bitter setback because Bournemouth were leading 3:1 against the Peacocks.
It was only in the second half that the promoted team conceded and wasted the point against Leeds. Bournemouth will face Everton in their last league game before the extended winter break. Before that, the two clubs will face each other in a must-win EFL Cup clash.
General rehearsal before the league clash with the Toffees
In both matches, AFC Bournemouth benefit from home advantage. O’Neil’s side have so far remained unbeaten at home in four of their seven competitive matches. Only against Spurs (2:3), Southampton (0:1) and Arsenal (0:3) the Cherries could not use the home advantage.
However, Bournemouth have a strong home record in the H2H against their upcoming cup opponents Liverpool. In the last four home games, AFC Bournemouth remained unbeaten against the Toffees. The last time they lost to Everton was in February 2016 and since then they have won three of their last four home games against the Toffees.
If the Cherries win this one too, Bournemouth vs. Everton offers odds of 2.80 for tip 1. Gary O’Neil will have to do without Brooks, Kelly and Neto for the cup clash with the Toffees due to injury.
Predicted Bournemouth line-up:
Travers; Stacey, Stephens, Mepham, Zemura; Christie, Lerma, Pearson, Stanislas; Billing, Moore
Last matches played by Bournemouth:

05/11/2022 – Leeds 4 – 3 Bournemouth
29/10/2022 – Bournemouth 2 – 3 Tottenham
25/10/2022- West Ham 2 – 0 Bournemouth
20/10/2022 – Bournemouth 0 – 1 Southampton
15/10/2022 – Fulham 2 – 2 Bournemouth
Everton – Statistics & current form
Frank Lampard is currently skating on thin ice at the Toffees. The 44-year-old has failed to find his feet with Everton FC this season and is currently in a crisis of form. In the fast-moving football business, that form curve, especially in the Premier League, can already lead to a dismissal.
It therefore remains to be seen whether Lampard will spend the winter as head coach of the Toffees during the winter break – which may also see England represented at the 2022 World Cup. For the Toffees, the next two must-win games against AFC Bournemouth will set the tone. A defeat in the Cup would be bearable, but not in the league.
After all, Everton are in 16th place in the English top flight after 14 matchdays and are therefore in danger of relegation. If the recent negative trend continues, a relegation place could be in the cards for the Blues from Liverpool even before the World Cup in a worst-case scenario.
Will Everton fail again in the third round of the EFL Cup?
It remains to be seen which starting line-up Frank Lampard will use for the Cherries’ cup tie during the week. Rotation is by no means out of the question. Last season the Toffees were eliminated from the EFL Cup in the third round. Everton were eliminated by second division side QPR.
In the two seasons before that, however, the Blues from Liverpool were represented in the quarter-finals. After their mixed start to the season in the Premier League, a quarter-final appearance in the EFL Cup this season would be a surprise. Provided Everton win against the Cherries, they could face Man United in the next round.
Frank Lampard will be without four players for the cup tie against AFC Bournemouth due to injury. Compared to last week’s squad against Leicester City, the Toffees are not expected to make any changes. In the starting eleven, however, there are.
Predicted Everton line-up:
Begovic; Patterson, Holgate, Keane, Vinagre; Iwobi, Garner, Doucoure; Gray, Maupay, Gordon
Last games played by Everton:
Premier League
06/11/2022 – Everton 0 – 2 Leicester
29/10/2022 – Fulham 0 – 0 Everton
22/10/2022 – Everton 3 – 0 Crystal Palace
20/10/2022 – Newcastle 1 – 0 Everton
15/10/2022 – Tottenham 2 – 0 Everton
Bournemouth – Everton Direct Comparison / H2H Record
In the last 14 meetings between the two clubs, there have been eight wins for Everton FC. AFC Bournemouth, on the other hand, have won four and drawn two. The last time the two clubs met was in the Premier League in 2020/21. At that time, the Cherries beat Everton FC in the first and second legs. Bournemouth won both matches 3-1.
The 3-1 win at home was AFC’s fourth successive unbeaten run against the Toffees. The last time they lost at home to Everton was almost six years ago. Since then, the Cherries have a record of 3-1-0 in four home games against the Liverpool Blues.
Bournemouth – Everton Tip
In the league, both teams are currently in crisis and will be looking to score trebles before the World Cup break. Before the Premier League showdown between the two table neighbours, there is the cup duel between Bournemouth and Everton during the week. Despite the home advantage, the Cherries go into the match as slight underdogs.
Surprisingly, Bournemouth have not lost a home game against the Toffees for almost six years. The Cherries have even won three of their last four home games against Everton.
We’re not ruling out a win for the Cherries this time either. Interim manager O’Neil’s side didn’t make a bad impression against Leeds last time out, narrowly missing out on a point. If the momentum is carried over, there are realistic chances of eliminating the Toffees from the cup competition.
With a stake of three units, we place our bet on the hosts in Bournemouth vs Everton. The best odds for this are currently offered by Bet365.
