Are we going to get revenge for the cup tie?
For the second time in a few days, Bournemouth and Everton meet in a direct duel. This time in a different competition and under different auspices. The hosts are definitely eager to upset the Toffees again.
Ahead of the Bournemouth vs Everton game, however, the odds do not indicate a clear favourite for either side. The clash could be decided by nuances, with form on the day also playing a part.
The Cherries’ clear victory in the EFL Cup, meanwhile, does not have too much impact on the Bournemouth vs Everton prediction because the competitions cannot be compared, also due to greater rotation. Kick-off in the league game is at 4pm on Saturday.
Bournemouth – Statistics & current form
Promoted Bournemouth are playing a season that has been riddled with highs so far, but also some lows. Gary O’Neil’s side are currently 17th in the Premier League and the last few weeks under him make it clear why.
After he took over as interim coach, there was no defeat in the first six games, but most recently four league defeats in a row. Consistency is simply lacking, which makes for leaps upwards and slips back towards the relegation places.
The game against Everton FC in the EFL Cup during the week was important for their self-confidence. The Cherries won 4:1, which of course helps. Especially because the offensive is a case of its own anyway. The best scorer in the league is Billing, a central midfielder. He has four goals to his name, which shows that the classic goal scorer is missing. The Cherries may be able to add to this in the winter.
15 goals in the Premier League so far is no mean feat either. Of course, the Cherries are promoted and do not have the ambition to score goal after goal, but the yield could have been a little better. The defence, on the other hand, ensures that Bournemouth can be said to have a certain penchant for high-scoring games, with over 30 goals conceded so far.
Bournemouth: relegation fight to the end looms
The quality in the squad is not immensely high, other relegation candidates could and can buy better than the Cherries. That’s why the team is threatened with a relegation battle until the end. It will be important to get through phases like the last one, with five games without a win, and come out stronger. The second game against Everton will show to what extent this can be achieved, especially after the positive experience during the week.
The visitors are a team that is not too far away from Bournemouth. A win against Everton would exacerbate the Toffees’ problems again and lift the hosts past the Lampard eleven in the table. Because neither of them are always in top form, our prediction ahead of the Bournemouth vs Everton game is that both teams will score.

Everton – Statistics & current form
It is truly not a love affair between Everton FC and coach Frank Lampard. Good games are followed by weak ones, sometimes the team is compact, sometimes it makes far too many mistakes and plays almost naively. There is simply no clear line and/or structure. The fact that the team is once again in the bottom third of the Premier League fits into the overall picture.
The squad is really not outstanding, but coach Lampard should be aiming for something more. Five of the last seven competitive matches were lost, only one won. The team has undoubtedly made progress this season, especially in its work against the ball. But it remains to be seen whether that is enough to be satisfied in the long term.
Eleven goals have been scored by Everton so far in 2022/23, which is clearly too few. However, the 14 goals conceded, i.e. exactly one per game, are pleasing. Under Lampard, the team is working very hard this season, never giving the ball away and being very careful with stationary balls. The fragile Everton of days gone by is very rarely to be seen.
Everton allow a lot of shots but…
To understand the defensive successes in more detail, it’s worth looking at various statistics. Although no team allows as many shots as Everton (238), the Toffees are again much better when it comes to big chances against them. There are many shots from distance, many are blocked. The compactness and the often deep defending are definitely paying off in this respect.
A balance sheet, however, raises questions and also shows Everton’s dilemma. The Toffees have not won any of the last seven (!) games against a promoted team. It is undoubtedly the case that this team is coming up short. Perhaps it is also because the Bournemouth vs. Everton tip in terms of the bookmakers’ odds tends to be in Everton’s disadvantage, given their individual abilities.
Predicted Everton line-up:
Pickford – Coleman, Tarkowski, Coady, Mykolenko – Onana, Doucoure, Gueye, Iwobi, Gordon – Calvert-Lewin
