Which of the two teams will end their crisis?
On Saturday, January 25, 2025, Borussia Dortmund will face SV Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. In terms of the table, we are therefore in the middle of the top German division, because while Werder are currently in ninth place, BVB are only in tenth place. In our Dortmund v Werder Bremen prediction, we now want to take a closer look at why the betting odds are still relatively clear in favor of a home win for the black and yellow.
First of all, we look at the home and away record of the two teams and find that there is hardly any noticeable difference. Dortmund have won 20 points from nine home games and are therefore used to being strong at home. On the other hand, Werder have already collected 16 points away from home and should therefore not be underestimated next Saturday. For us, however, that doesn’t change the fact that the “Yellow Wall” can be a decisive factor in this duel too. However, we still have to see whether that is enough to justify the Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen tip for a home win.

Dortmund – Statistics & current form
Dortmund parted ways with Nuri Sahin last Tuesday and will now go into matchday 19 with U19 coach Mike Tullberg. The dismissal was also sorely needed, because with the team knocked out of the DFB Cup, tenth in the Bundesliga and 14th in the Champions League, the sporting goals were widely missed. It remains to be seen whether the coach will have an effect as early as next Saturday against SV Werder Bremen, however. The Danish coach is only an interim solution and not yet a permanent one. Names such as Niko Kovac, Erik ten Haag or Roger Schmidt are currently being discussed. However, it is not yet clear who will ultimately be appointed.
Dortmund rarely without scoring
With 54 goals in 27 competitive games (Ø 2.00), the Borussia offense is doing a very decent job. However, this is due more to individual quality than to tactical specifications. For this reason, the hosts’ attacking play seems quite unimaginative, especially when stars like Julian Brandt, Sehrou Guirassy or Jamie Gittens are chasing their own form. Nevertheless, the team of interim coach Mike Tullberg has only gone three games without scoring and has found the way into the opposing goal in 89% of the games. In their own stadium, the rate is even better and is 100%. BVB must build on this.
Dortmund with huge weakness
While there is hardly anything to criticize about Borussia Dortmund’s front row, the defense has to question itself week after week. With 45 goals conceded in 27 games (Ø 1.67), the Borussians simply allow far too many chances and therefore should not be surprised about their lack of success. It is therefore no surprise that the home side have kept a clean sheet only six times and thus conceded at least one goal in 78% of competitive matches. Currently, BVB has not kept a clean sheet for eight games. We therefore consider it relatively unlikely that the hosts will be able to defend against Werder for 90 minutes.
Werder Bremen – Statistics & current form
Werder Bremen can be absolutely satisfied with the way the season has gone so far. Ole Werner’s team have picked up 26 points from their first 18 league games to sit in ninth place. What’s more, Werder are currently just two points behind the international places and can therefore still dream of Europe. On top of that, the visitors are also still in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup and have a very realistic chance of reaching the semi-finals against Arminia Bielefeld. However, the away team has recently fallen into a minor slump, picking up just a single point from their last three competitive games. So where can the journey take Bremen?
Ole Werner has definitely revived the Bremen game and breathed a lot of joy into the team. With 36 goals in 21 games (Ø 1.71), this is also reflected in the goal scoring rate. For this reason, the guests have only been without a goal of their own five times and have thus put the ball in the net in 76% of the games. The rate is even better on the road, at 89%. One player in particular is the focus of the Werder offense, and that’s Marvin Ducksch. The 30-year-old forward has already collected 15 scorer points this season, making him by far the most dangerous player on the visiting team.
Werder Bremen in search of stability
Defensively, Ole Werner’s team has not yet been able to be satisfied, because with 35 goals conceded in 21 games (Ø 1.67), the guests have conceded almost as many goals as they have scored themselves. It is therefore no wonder that Werder have kept a clean sheet just five times, thus allowing at least one goal in 76% of competitive matches. If we then subtract the two cup games against the two second division teams from Darmstadt and Paderborn, the number of “clean sheet games” is even more manageable. It would therefore take a lot for SV Werder Bremen to keep a clean sheet at Signal Iduna Park.
Dortmund – Werder Bremen Direct comparison / H2H record
In a pure team analysis, no clear favorite can be identified, because apart from the market value comparison, the two teams are currently on an equal footing. In the direct comparison, however, BVB has recently had clear advantages and has remained unbeaten in the last four duels against Werder. The black and yellows even managed to win three of the four matches. It is therefore no surprise that the Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen betting odds favor a home win – though a bit too clearly for our taste.
Dortmund – Werder Bremen betting tip
In summary of all the facts mentioned, we have decided on the Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen betting tip on “both teams scoring – yes” in conjunction with over 2.5 goals. The reasons for this are obvious, because both clubs have a lot of offensive power, but rarely manage to play to zero. In addition, the guests are unusually strong away from home and home advantage may not play such a big role. For this reason, we expect a fairly even game with chances on both sides of the field.
Alternatively, we recommend the Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen odds for a home win. This is primarily because the “Yellow Wall” is quite capable of carrying the team. Furthermore, the coach effect is an inexplicable mystery that can be observed time and again. In addition, not only BVB but also the away team are in a bit of a rut in terms of form. Therefore, we expect a narrow victory for the home side.
