Will the Benito Villamarín remain a good place for Real?
On Sunday evening, La Liga will see a highly anticipated clash between reigning cup winners Betis Sevilla and national champions Real Madrid.
The Verdiblancos have recently won three league games in a row after a brief period of weakness, while the Madrilenians have suffered two minor setbacks in the championship and Copa del Rey. Nevertheless, betting on an away win for the Merengues at Betis Sevilla against Real Madrid is basically good.
Since Manuel Pellegrini took over as coach of the Andalusians, many things have changed for the better at Betis Sevilla. However, the record against the Blancos is not one of them. Under the Chilean, the Verdiblancos have not won a single one of their five league games against the Madrilenians (two draws, three defeats). Accordingly, the prediction for Betis Sevilla against Real Madrid is for an away win for the Galactics.
Finally, the away record of the royals reads well overall as well. Real Madrid won nine of their 12 away games in La Liga in the 2022/23 season (three defeats) and are second in the away table with 27 points out of a possible 36. No team has scored more goals away from home than the Blancos (24), who have also won five of their last six matches at the Estadio Benito Villamarín (one defeat).
Betis Sevilla – Statistics & current form
Real Betis Balompié once secured the first and only national championship in Spain in 1935. The Verdiblancos have also won the Copa del Rey three times. The Andalusians celebrated their last coup in this competition last summer.
For a long time, the Béticos were also among the top teams in all competitions in the 2022/23 season. In the Europa League, they won their group and advanced directly to the round of 16, where they will face Manchester United next Thursday. Meanwhile, in La Liga, qualification for the Champions League is still possible, with the team only two points behind in fourth place.
After a small slump, three wins in a row again
Only in the Copa del Rey will there be no title defence. The Verdiblancos lost at home in the quarter-finals against outsiders Osasuna on penalties in mid-January. A defeat that also ushered in a period of weakness in La Liga, losing three of four consecutive league games (one win).
However, the Béticos have since managed to get back on track. The Andalusians have won their last three league games in a row and could now record four consecutive wins for the first time in 15 months (last December 2021).
Lost five of last six home games against Real Madrid
However, there is not much to suggest that Betis Sevilla will win at home against Real Madrid. Not only have Manuel Pellegrini’s troops lost five of their last six home games against the royals (one win), but the Béticos’ home record is also only moderately convincing.
So far, the Andalusians have secured 20 of a possible 33 points at home in the Estadio Benito Villamarín. The reigning cup winners thus only occupy seventh place in the La Liga home table.

Real Madrid – Statistics & current form
Real Madrid secured the UEFA Champions League last season alongside the domestic championship, extending their status as record winners in both competitions. In the new season, the Blancos won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Apart from that, however, things are only looking good for the capital city side in the top flight at the moment, as they celebrated a brilliant 5-2 away win at Liverpool in the last 16 and already have one foot in the quarter-finals.
Two minor setbacks in a row
Although they won the Clásico against arch-rivals Barcelona 3-1, they are still seven points off the Catalan leaders in La Liga. And speaking of the Clásico, arguably the most explosive clash in Spanish football has also emerged in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, where the Merengues suffered a 1-0 home defeat in the first leg during the week.
As a result, Madrid’s title chances in the national competitions are currently not overly pronounced. However, the championship train has not yet left the station, which is why it is all the more important for Carlo Ancelotti’s team to get the next three points in the league after the small setback in the Madrid city derby (1:1).
The best away attack in La Liga
The Blancos travel to Andalusia as favourites. The betting odds on Betis Sevilla against Real Madrid are clearly in favour of the royals, who have not only won five of their last six matches at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, but are also considered to be strong away from home.
The Merengues have won nine of their 12 away games in La Liga in the 2022/23 season (three defeats), which puts the white ballet in second place in the away table. The 24 goals already scored on away grounds (an average of exactly two goals per away game) are even the best in the league.

Betis Sevilla – Real Madrid Direct comparison / H2H balance
Head to head: 27 – 26 – 68
There have been a total of 121 meetings between the two teams so far and with 68 wins, the Blancos lead the direct comparison very clearly. Real Madrid are unbeaten in five meetings against Betis Sevilla (three wins, two draws) and have also won five of their last six matches at the Estadio Benito Villamarín (one defeat).
Betis Sevilla – Real Madrid tip
When it comes to Betis Sevilla against Real Madrid, the prediction clearly goes in the direction of the visitors, who have won five of their last six away games at the Béticos (one defeat) and have also managed to win 75% of all away games in La Liga over the course of the 2022/23 season (nine out of twelve). On the other hand, the Andalusians are in good form and have won three matches in a row. However, with 20 points in front of their own fans, the Verdiblancos are only the seventh best home team in La Liga.
It is therefore a good bet that the Royals, after two minor setbacks, will now be able to win again and stay in front of leaders Barcelona in La Liga.
