Will the B-Bayern manage the Gladbach revenge?
Will the match take place or will it not? Never before has there been so much discussion before a match in the Bundesliga as this week. While there were indications that the eagerly awaited match between FC Bayern and Borussia Mönchengladbach would have to be postponed, the tide has now turned and it can be assumed that the ball will be rolling again in the German top flight on Friday evening from 8:30 p.m.
Although Julian Nagelsmann has to do without a double-digit number of players and the club was even forced to fly in B-youth players from the winter training camp in order to ensure a somewhat regular training session at all, lower odds are being offered on the autumn champions ahead of the Bayern vs Gladbach match. Despite the adverse personnel situation, the Munich team will therefore go into this match as favourites.
This assessment is quite ambitious, not only because of the abovementioned absences, but also in view of the first two season duels of these teams, after all, the Foals already threw the FCB out of the DFB Cup thanks to a sensational 5:0 victory. On the first matchday, the industry leader also lost ground on the Lower Rhine and had to settle for a draw. However, these results do not necessarily support a Bayern vs Gladbach prediction on the visitors. The Hütter eleven’s season so far has been too disappointing.
Bayern – statistics & current form
FC Bayern has by far the highest quality and probably also the deepest squad in the Bundesliga. However, it is hardly surprising that even the record champion is reaching its own personnel limits these days before the start of the second half of the season. A total of 14 players will not be available on Friday evening. The majority due to positive tests, others because they have been called up for the Africa Cup and some because of various (old) injuries.
Nevertheless, the first eleven that Julian Nagelsmann can call up still reads very appealing. The offensive alone around Lewandowski, Müller, Musiala or Gnabry can, of course, cause enormous difficulties for every defence on the planet.
How do Bayern compensate for the numerous absences?
The proof of this is the goal yield in the first half of the season. 56 goals in the first 17 match days had never before been achieved by a team in Bundesliga history. Furthermore, the Foals have not conceded more goals against any other club in the top flight of German football than against their upcoming opponents. Also impressive: in 64 consecutive league games, the Munich side have always scored at least one goal. One more goal on Friday and the serial champions would set their own record (2012-2014).
Apart from that, the current leaders are a real force at the Allianz Arena. In the current season, there have been eight victories in nine home games. In four of the eight victories, even the handicap bet (-1.5) would have gone through. On average, the margin of victory was even three goals.
This is one of the reasons why we do not deviate from betting on a home win with at least a two-goal difference between Bayern and Gladbach and also benefit from constantly increasing odds. We are convinced that Nagelsmann’s team will take revenge for the cup embarrassment, even though Roca, Tillman and Ulreich are players who are definitely emblematic of the crazy circumstances in the world of sport at the moment. The substitutes’ bench is even less prominent, with Ibrahimovic and Wanner, two 16-year-olds. One looks in vain for other professionals.
Predicted Bayern line-up:
Ulreich – Pavard, Kimmich, Süle – Roca, Musiala – Gnabry, Sabitzer, T. Müller, M. Tillman – Lewandowski

Gladbach – Statistics & current form
Borussia Mönchengladbach have been by far the biggest disappointment of the current Bundesliga season so far. Actually, the team with coach Adi Hütter wanted to focus fully on the return to European business, but currently the Foals have just two meagre points ahead of the first relegation place. 14th place after the first half of the season is the bitter reality.
The news from the short Christmas break, in which it was announced that Matthias Ginter and Denis Zakaria, two absolute key players, will leave the club in the summer without being released, was also not very pleasant. Adi Hütter is also still on the table. Many fans are no longer convinced by the ex-Frankfurt player. Max Eberl, on the other hand, has expressed confidence in the Austrian, even though he expects a different Gladbach team in the second half of the season.
Will Hütter achieve the turnaround with the Foals?
The team from the Lower Rhine must improve their defensive performance. They have conceded a whopping 32 goals in 17 games. Only Hertha (35) and bottom-placed Greuther Fürth (49) conceded more goals than Borussia, who also collected only one point from the last five Bundesliga games and conceded 18 (!) in this period alone.
It is doubtful whether the uncertainty has given way to a new euphoria in time for the 2022 season opener. In any case, we would not make a prediction on the guest between Bayern and Gladbach, even if Adi Hütter has a very good record against his colleague Julian Nagelsmann. He has already defeated the Bayern coach three times – more than any other coach in the Bundesliga. In general, there has only been one Nagelsmann treble in seven duels between these coaches.
Gladbach also has personnel worries
Although the Rhinelanders’ personnel situation is in no way comparable to that of the Munich side, it should also be taken into account when analysing the Bayern vs. Gladbach odds that the 14th-placed team in the table will have to do without a number of players. First and foremost, Zakaria, Scally, Bensebaini and Hofmann are missing.
At least in the forward play, everything is there that already caused problems for the record champions in the cup. Perhaps it is therefore also an option to bet on four or more goals in the course of the game. Bookmaker Bet365 not only offers interesting quotes for this, but also advertises exciting Bet365 Super odds for Bayern’s match against Gladbach. Instead of a 7.00 on Gladbach’s success, even a 7.70 beckons.
Predicted line-up of Gladbach:
Sommer – Ginter, Elvedi, Jantschke – Lainer, Kramer, Koné, Net – Stindl, Plea – Embolo
Last matches played by Gladbach:
1st Bundesliga
12/18 2021 – Hoffenheim 1 – 1 Borussia Mönchengladbach
12/15 2021 – Borussia Mönchengladbach 2 – 3 Eintracht Frankfurt
12/11 2021 – RB Leipzig 4 – 1 Borussia Mönchengladbach
12/05 2021 – Borussia Mönchengladbach 0 – 6 SC Freiburg
11/27 2021 – 1. FC Köln 4 – 1 Borussia Mönchengladbach
Bayern – Gladbach Tip
At the end of October, Borussia Mönchengladbach delivered by far their best game of the season. The Rhinelanders won 5:0 in the second round of the DFB Cup against the industry leaders from Munich. Less than three months later, the eagerly awaited re-match in the Bundesliga will take place under special circumstances on Friday evening.
The virus has ravaged the record champions, so that a total of 14 players, including all the injured professionals and those at the Africa Cup, are not available. The first eleven will be made up of its own accord and the bench will be made up exclusively of amateurs or youth players. The fact that the betting odds are clearly in favour of the home side before the kick-off between Bayern and Gladbach underlines the disastrous season of the visitors from the Lower Rhine.
We agree with the bookmakers’ opinion and also assume that coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team will shake off their personnel problems and deliver a good home game. Four of the eight home victories in the current Bundesliga season have come by at least a two-goal difference. Given the desire for revenge after the cup defeat, we would not be surprised if the leaders win by two or more goals again.
In our eyes, the bet on the FCB’s handicap win (-1.5) offers the most promising value in the Bayern vs Gladbach clash.
