Will Fürth feel the Bayern wrath?
The top of the table receives the bottom of the table. A match in the Bundesliga doesn’t get much clearer than this. The nationwide league was founded in 1963 and since then it has only happened once that the bottom team has won away from home at the league leader. That was in January 1964, when 1. FC Saarbrücken came out on top at 1. FC Köln. A long time ago.
On Saturday, Bayern Munich will receive SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the Allianz Arena in this constellation. One should probably not even spare a thought that the Franconians will win at Bayern. The FCB has not lost to a last-place team since 2008 and has not even conceded a point since 2014.
Julian Nagelsmann’s team will continue to try to keep the competition from Dortmund at bay. The Munich team is currently six points clear at the top. Everything suggests that this cushion will at least not shrink, because in the Bavarian-Franconian derby between Bayern and Fürth, the forecast is more than clearly for a home victory.
There is even no small indication that it will be a clear story. Although the Spielvereinigung has recently caught a whiff of morning air in the relegation battle, they are still nine points adrift of the relegation places.
Bayern – statistics & current form
Once Bayern have stumbled, it is only a matter of time before they find their old form again. Bayern have not performed well of late and it is when you goad them that they are at their most dangerous. Perhaps it is now the promoted team from Fürth, of all places, that will feel the concentrated Munich wrath.
Tormaschine Lewandowski
However, Bayern have dropped points five times in the Bundesliga this season and their opponents have always been in the bottom half of the table. On Sunday, however, the fact that Robert Lewandowski alone has scored six more goals this season than all the Fürth players put together speaks against this. It therefore makes sense to check the odds on perhaps even several goals from the Pole in the match between Bayern and Fürth.
So far, however, the English week has been anything but rosy for Bayern. In the Bundesliga, the first defeat was at the hands of VfL Bochum. Reparation was also not the order of the day in the Champions League. At RB Salzburg, the Munich team even fell behind 0:1 in the first leg of the last 16. It was only in the final minute that Kingsley Coman was able to equalise the score at 1-1.
In view of the pressure in the Champions League and the task against the bottom team, it is conceivable that Bayern will have to manage the pressure. Jamal Musiala is now an option again after overcoming an infection. However, the injured Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka will continue to be missing, as well as Alphons Davies, who is suffering from heart muscle inflammation.

Fürth – Statistics & current form
In the Hinrunde, SpVgg Greuther Fürth set some negative records in the Bundesliga. It indicated that Stefan Leitl’s Mannschaf will return to the second division without a sound, but in the meantime it has become clear that this team has not given up. Even if the mission to stay in the league is hardly possible, the Franconians are fighting for their slim chance.
Good run by Fürth
The only problem at the moment is the away weakness. Fürth have only picked up one point from eleven away games. On the other hand, they have a positive record from the last eight league games. These eight games alone would mean a place in the top half of the table. However, that is not enough for us to predict a successful game for the visitors in the match between Bayern and Fürth.
Last weekend, however, there was another win at home at the Ronhof. With a 2-1 win over Hertha BSC, the Franconians put the capitals right in the middle of the Bundesliga’s relegation battle. Branimir Hrgota scored twice and is now the most successful scorer in the Bundesliga history of the Spielvereinigung. However, seven goals were already enough for that.
Actually, there is no reason to change the starting eleven. Stefan Leitl, however, did not want to show his cards yet and make his formation dependent on the training impressions. Should there be any changes, then there is a lot to be said for Havard Nielsen playing from the start. Marius Funk, Gideon Jung, Robin Kehrens and Gideon Jung, Robin Kehr and Jessic Ngankam.
Projected line-up of Fürth:
Linde – Meyerhöfer, Griesbeck, Viergever, Itter – Christiansen – Seguin, Tillman, Dudziak, Hrgota – Leweling – Coach: Leitl
Last matches played by Fürth:
1st Bundesliga
02/12 2022 – Greuther Fürth 2 – 1 Hertha Berlin
02/06 2022 – Vfl Wolfsburg 4 – 1 Greuther Fürth
01/22 2022 – Greuther Fürth 2 – 1 Mainz 05
01/16 2022 – Arminia Bielefeld 2 – 2 Greuther Fürth
01/08 2022 – Greuther Fürth 0 – 0 VfB Stuttgart
Bayern – Fürth Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
Bayern München against SpVgg Fürth, that was a permanent duel in the Oberliga Süd before the Bundesliga was formed. Therefore, the two clubs have now faced each other in 41 games. The direct comparison, with 20:14 victories, is not even that clear in favour of the FCB. Seven duels ended in a draw. Especially in the games of the modern era, the Munich team has gained an advantage in the balance.
The Bavarians have won all five direct duels since 1998. This also means that all three Bundesliga matches between these clubs have gone to the record champions. Bayern won the first leg at the Ronhof 3:1, with Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich and Sebastian Griesbeck scoring an own goal to give Munich a 3:0 lead, with Benjamin Pavard sent off shortly after the break. For the Franconians, however, it was only enough for a consolation goal through Cedric Itten.
Bayern – Fürth tip
The Bavarians are fired up. The last two results were not at all to the liking of the Bayern bosses and maybe now the Franconians will have to pay for it on Sunday at the Allianz Arena. When the last team in the table plays the leaders and record champions, you don’t have to use too many statistics to illustrate the situation before this match.
However, Fürth are on the up, but only at home. Away from home, they have just one point in eleven games in the Bundesliga. That sounds more like the Franconians won’t reap anything in Munich, especially since all three duels in the top flight have gone to the Munich side so far. Therefore, we also expect to be successful on Sunday between Bayern and Fürth with a bet on a home win.
We even think Bayern will want to get all the frustration off their chest and it will be clear. Betting on over-goals is always an option with a Robert Lewandowski in the team anyway. We assume that the goal scorer will also play his part in a home win on Sunday and that is why we are playing the betting odds on a handicap win (-2.5) for FCB between Bayern and Fürth.
