Top match at Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich vs SC Freiburg. For years and decades, this has been the duel between the big favourites from the Isar and the small underdogs from Breisgau. This year, however, the situation is somewhat different, because if you look at the table, then it is a duel between two teams that should meet on equal terms, even if Christian Streich naturally sees it completely differently.
In the table, the Sportclub is in second place and thus ahead of FC Bayern. This is the 45th time that the two clubs have met in the Bundesliga and only the third time that Freiburg are ahead of FCB in a direct duel. 18 points from nine games are a great haul for Christian Streich’s team. If they manage to maintain the two-point average, they could perhaps even go straight into the Champions League.
FC Bayern has only 16 points on its account. With third place, however, they are still within reach of the top. Nevertheless, it is the record champion’s worst start to a season in eleven years. At the time, BVB were crowned champions and yet, ahead of the match between Bayern and Freiburg, we dare make no other prediction than that the trophy will once again go to the Munich side.
However, it is clear that Julian Nagelsmann’s team will not be able to take the lead in the standings on this matchday, as Union Berlin are currently top of the table with four points more on their account. The Breisgau side could climb to the top of the table with an away win, provided that Union leave the table behind.
Bayern – statistics & current form
The fire is burning in Munich once again. Currently, one hears more and more that the mood at Säbener Straße is anything but positive. Criticism of Julian Nagelsmann is increasing. However, the whole thing has to be put into perspective, because Bayern are still in the right direction. The sabre-rattling is also coming a lot from the media because Thomas Tuchel is currently without a club.
Goal factory FC Bayern
However, it cannot be denied that the Munich side have only won four of their nine Bundesliga games. But if you add the four victories in the Champions League, then everything looks friendlier again. On top of that, FC has the best attack in the Bundesliga. That’s why we’re definitely looking at the odds for over-goals between Bayern and Freiburg.
During the week, the Munich side once again wrapped up an early place in the last 16 of the top flight. With twelve points from four games, their record in the Champions League is flawless. However, the 4:2 away win in Pilsen after a 4:0 lead at the break had one or two blemishes.
It will be interesting to see whether Jamal Musiala will be back in the team on Sunday after his infection. Serge Gnabry or Marcel Sabitzer would be the alternatives for the young international. Alphonso Davies and Matthijs de Ligt should certainly be fit for action again. That means that in addition to the suspended Kingsley Coman, the injured Lucas Hernandez and Bouna Sarr will be missing. However, there is still a question mark behind keeper Manuel Neuer due to shoulder problems.

Neuer – Pavard, Upamecano, de Ligt, Davies – Kimmich, Goretzka – Musiala, Sane, Müller – Mane – Coach: Nagelsmann

Freiburg – Statistics & current form
The development at SC Freiburg has been great over the last few years. This season, however, Christian Streich seems to have taken his team to another level. In the Bundesliga, the Sportclub is now unbeaten for seven games. There has not been a defeat away from home and the Breisgau side is also right at the top of the away table.
Eleven games without defeat
If we add in the great performances in the Europa League, then Sportclub are now unbeaten in eleven competitive matches. Christian Streich’s team has more than earned the top match in Munich. Nevertheless, the bookmakers leave no doubt with their quotes that the forecast in the duel between Bayern and Freiburg must go to a home victory.
That can only be a good thing for Freiburg. They showed a very good performance again on Thursday. In the Europa League, there was a clear 4-0 win away at FC Nantes. Lukas Kübler, Michael Gregoritsch, Kevin Schade and Woo-Yeong Jeong scored the goals. It is already clear that Freiburg will definitely spend the winter in the Europa League.
How Christian Streich will play in Munich also depends on possible injuries from the Nantes game. In the Bundesliga, the coach has always trusted the same starting eleven in the last four games. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Lucas Höler are now fighting for a place in the attacking midfield. Kimberly Ezekwem, Manuel Gulde, Roland Sallai and Jonathan Schmid, who are still injured, will certainly not be involved.
Predicted line-up of Freiburg:
Flekken – Sildillia, Ginter, Lienhart, Günter – Eggestein, Höfler – Doan, Höler, Grifo – Gregoritsch – Coach: Streich

Bayern – Freiburg Direct comparison / H2H-Balance
Up to now, FC Bayern and SC Freiburg have crossed paths a total of 45 times. The direct comparison looks very bitter for the Breisgauer, as the record champions are 32:4 ahead after victories. Nine times there was a draw. The Sportclub has never won an away game in Munich. In 22 away games, they have only managed three draws.
Freiburg have now waited twelve games for a win against Bayern. Last season, Streich’s team came away with nothing in both games. In Munich, the FCB first won 2:1. The return match Freiburg was clearer. After goals from Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Marcel Sabitzer, Julian Nagelsmann’s team won 4:1. Nils Petersen equalised for Freiburg in the meantime.
Bayern – Freiburg Tip
Judging by the odds, FC Bayern are the clear favourites in this top match. However, SC Freiburg have developed so strongly that Christian Streich’s team must now be counted among the top teams in the Bundesliga. Therefore, there is reason to doubt whether Bayern will keep the three points in the Allianz Arena on Sunday.
After all, Sportclub has been unbeaten for eleven games. Bayern, on the other hand, have not even won half of their Bundesliga games. The bottom line, however, is that both teams have only suffered one defeat in all competitions this season.
We think this match will deliver what it promises. Munich are the most goal-hungry team in the league. In addition, the two most dangerous teams play each other on standards. We expect both teams to score, but have decided to play the betting odds for more than 3.5 goals between Bayern and Freiburg.
