Will Bayern crack the 4000-point mark?
Bayern Munich is the record champion in German soccer and according to the current state of affairs in this ranking also not to be caught. So it’s no wonder that the FCB is also at the top of the eternal Bundesliga table. On Sunday, the Munich team could become the first club ever to crack the 4000-point mark in the German top flight. We take a look at whether Thomas Tuchel’s team will reach this milestone this weekend in our Bayern vs Augsburg tip.
After the defeat in the German Supercup, Munich made a convincing start to the new Bundesliga season last week. After the victory at Werder Bremen, Bayern have the first three points on their account. This is hardly surprising. There is no need to worry about the current ranking after a point game. With another three-point win on Sunday, the FCB would, as expected, spread itself out in the top group.
FC Augsburg is an easy task at the Allianz Arena. After a draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Fuggerstädter have one point on their account and are in the midfield of the table. Regardless of the last results, the prediction in the match between Bayern and Augsburg must always go to a victory for the record champion.
Goals should be expected in any case, as both teams scored four times each on the first matchday. Of course, we expect the majority to be scored by the hosts, but last season, for example, Augsburg scored three times alone at the Allianz Arena in a 5-3 defeat.
Bayern – statistics & current form
It is rarely a pleasure to play against FC Bayern at the beginning of a season. For twelve years, the Munich team has not lost on the first matchday. Being the first guest at the Allianz Arena is hardly a pleasure tax either, as there has also been no defeat in the last twelve first home games in a new season.
Bayern a bench in first home game
Perhaps, however, Bayern are vulnerable at the current stage. Season-to-date, FCB conceded two home defeats in a row, both against RB Leipzig, once in the Bundesliga and once in the Supercup. The last time that happened was twelve years ago. The last time the Munich team conceded three home defeats in a row was in 1977, so we’re not looking at the odds for an away win in the match between Bayern and Augsburg.
Two Bayern players are particularly in focus on Sunday. First of all, this is Leroy Sane. The international scored twice last weekend at SV Werder and was instrumental in the 4-0 away win. It is quite amazing that the fast attacker laced a brace for the first time in his 144th Bundesliga game.
Otherwise, all eyes are naturally on Harry Kane. Thomas Tuchel made it clear that the captain of the English national team does not need a build-up and will always play from the start. As a rule, he also pays back with goals. In his last six point games, the center forward has now always scored. However, Kane still played the first five games in the Tottenham Hotspurs jersey.
Predicted Bayern lineup:
Bayern Munich (Expected lineup) 4-2-3-1
Augsburg – statistics & current form
In a new season, the cards are also always reshuffled. Everything that was in the previous season no longer counts. Nevertheless, at the beginning of a new season, there are always statistics that catch up with a club, and these are then served to you again. This is also true for the Fuggerstädter this year, who are carrying around old burdens that can already be seen as a crisis.
Negative run across the season
In total, Augsburg have won just one of their last twelve Bundesliga games. Otherwise, there have been five draws and six defeats. Therefore, it would be presumptuous to assume an away win. We think that between Bayern and Augsburg, it’s more fair to predict a handicap win for the Munich side.
However, we can also very well imagine that the guests will score on Sunday. After Bayern and Dortmund, FCA scored the most away goals in the last series. In addition, Mergim Berisha is a Bayern specialist. In his four competitive games against FCB, he always scored and a total of five times. Conceivable that the attacker will score again or at least fit bets on goals of both teams.
Last week there was a pure spectacle for the opener against Gladbach. Early on, the team of Enrico Maassen was behind 0:2 and 1:3. At the break, however, Elvis Rexhbecaj, Maximilian Bauer and Sven Michel had leveled the score at 3:3. After Ruben Vargas made it 4:3, it even looked like Augsburg would win for a long time before they were forced to concede the goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time to equalize 4:4.
Predicted Augsburg lineup:
Augsburg (Expected lineup) 4-4-2
Bavaria – Augsburg Direct comparison / H2H balance
In total, FC Bayern München and FC Augsburg have faced each other in 58 competitive matches to date, the first time being back in 1945 in what was then the Oberliga Süd. The direct comparison is clearly in favor of the Munich team, which is 40:12 ahead after victories. Only six duels have ended in a division of points. There hasn’t been much to harvest for FCA at the Allianz Arena so far.
Out of twelve appearances at the Allianz Arena, Augsburg won only one and picked up one more point in a draw. Ten duels went to the FCB. This was also the case in the last duel, when Bayern won 5:3. Joao Cancelo, Benjamin Pavard (2), Leroy Sane and Alphonso Davies were the goal scorers for the record champions. For Augsburg, Mergim Berisha scored twice. Irvin Cardona contributed the third goal.
Bayern – Augsburg tip
The Bavarians will not want to miss out on optimizing their start to the season with another win. Even though there have always been inexplicable setbacks under Thomas Tuchel so far, the Munich side will go into this encounter as the clear favorites. This is not only due to their good record in the first home games of a season, but also generally due to their good statistics against FCA.
However, Augsburg have what it takes to at least set a few pinpricks. Last season, the Fuggerstädter scored the third most away goals in the Oberhaus and, in addition, Mergim Berisha is apparently always particularly motivated against Bayern and thus goal-scoring.
However, we think that the three points will pretty much stay at the Isar and can imagine a similar goal-filled match as the 5:3 of Munich against the Fuggerstädter last season. It is quite conceivable that FCA will again join in the scoring and that is why we have decided to play the betting odds between FC Bayern and Augsburg on a home win with goals from both teams.
