Preliminary decision in the title race?

On Sunday, a preliminary decision in the championship could be made at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys when the Clásico takes place for the fourth time in the 2024/25 season. If Barcelona beat Real Madrid at home, the Blaugrana would extend their lead over the Blancos to seven points. It is hard to imagine that the Catalans, who are unbeaten in 15 La Liga games (13 wins, two draws), would throw it all away in the three remaining matchdays.

A draw would be enough for FCB to complete the domestic double after winning the Copa del Rey. The pressure is therefore on for the Madrid side, who must go for victory at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. However, when Barcelona face Real Madrid, it is extremely risky to predict the outcome. After all, the Blaugrana have won all three Clásicos in 2024/25 so far.

However, if they fail to win away in Catalonia, it would be a disaster for the success-hungry Madrid side, who would not only be left without a title in 2024/25, but would also have to bow out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals, despite being the record winners of the competition. Speaking of the Champions League, FC Barcelona also bowed out of the competition this week, not only with two English weeks in their bones, but also 120 grueling minutes at San Siro on Tuesday evening.

Barcelona – Statistics & current form

FC Barcelona had been dreaming of the treble again in recent weeks, but that is now no longer possible. They were two minutes away from victory at San Siro on Tuesday evening before Acerbi shocked the Catalans with a late equalizer and forced extra time, in which Inter Milan prevailed 4-3. Hansi Flick’s team nevertheless showed once again what they are capable of when they turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 win.

So now, after winning the Supercopa Espana and the Copa del Rey, the Spanish championship is also set to go to Catalonia. If Barcelona beat Real Madrid at home, the Blaugrana’s title hopes would be all but sealed, as their current four-point lead would then become a seven-point lead. Even if Real were to win their last three league games, Barça would only need three draws to secure the title.

Barcelona have not lost a La Liga game since December

In principle, Hansi Flick’s team, which has won all three Clásicos so far, simply has to avoid a home defeat. That should be possible given their recent form. Barça have not lost in 15 La Liga games (13 wins, two draws). With 41 points out of a possible 45, the Blaugrana have completely erased the slump they went through in the winter.

The Catalans’ biggest asset is undoubtedly their formidable offense, which has already scored 91 goals in La Liga. This is an absolute record that no other team has even come close to achieving. The fact that Robert Lewandowski is now fit again, having been ably replaced by the equally accurate Ferran Torres, gives Hansi Flick even more options for the fourth Clásico of the 2024/25 season, in which the team will be aiming for its fourth victory.

Real Madrid – Statistics & current form

Real Madrid won both the national championship and the Champions League in 2023/24. Considering that there were no notable departures apart from Toni Kroos, who ended his active career, and that Kylian Mbappé, a world star, and Eindrick, a possible future world star, were brought to the Spanish capital, those responsible set themselves high goals for the new season.

Currently, however, one disappointment follows another for the Galacticos. First, there was the disappointing exit from the Champions League quarter-finals, in which the record Champions League winners were defeated by Arsenal FC with an aggregate score of 1-5. And then they lost the Copa del Rey final 2-3 to FC Barcelona, with the ugly images of the red cards against Antonio Rüdiger and Lucas Vázquez going around the world. It would therefore be important for the Merengues to at least defend their La Liga title.

Real Madrid still with a full infirmary

After four wins in a row, they now need an away win at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. However, the odds against Barcelona against Real Madrid speak against this. At Betano, where new customers can currently also claim an exclusive €20 Betano free bet, the odds for an away win for Los Blancos are 3.45, making them clear underdogs in Catalonia.

This is primarily due to the extremely thin squad that Carlo Ancelotti has had to cope with for months. In central defense alone, Eder Militao, David Alaba, and Antonio Rüdiger are all out. In addition, Dani Carvajal, Eduardo Camavinga, and Ferland Mendy, three other players who have been filling in at central defense, are also injured. In addition to 22-year-old Raúl Asensio, midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni is likely to move into central defense again in the Clásico. Whether such a makeshift defense will be enough to withstand La Liga’s most powerful attack is definitely open to question…

Barcelona – Real Madrid Head-to-head comparison / H2H record

Head to head: 103 – 52 – 105

A total of 260 Clásicos have already taken place in competitive matches, and the record is remarkably even. The Blancos have 105 wins to the Blaugrana’s 103. In 2024/25, the two rivals will clash for the fourth time. FC Barcelona has triumphed in all three previous encounters, most recently in the Copa del Rey final.

Barcelona – Real Madrid prediction

All in all, our prediction for Barcelona vs. Real Madrid is in favor of the Blaugrana, who have not lost a single competitive game at the national level in 2025. The Blancos have not dropped any points in their last four league games either. However, the fact that the Royals are four points behind Barça is also due to the fact that the Madrilenians have dropped points time and again in recent months. To make matters worse, there are personnel problems.

It is clear that the Blancos will have to give everything they have at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. The Royals are definitely capable of scoring an away goal. However, we consider an away win to be very unlikely, which is why we recommend the combined tip on double chance & both teams to score: yes.

For FCB not to lose and both teams to score, the betting odds for Barcelona vs. Real Madrid are 1.78, which we are betting on at ODDSET with four out of ten units.
