Three out of three for Flick’s Blaugrana?

The prestigious Clásico is taking place for the third time in the 2024/25 season. If Barcelona beat Real Madrid, Hansi Flick’s record will remain flawless. Under the German coach, both previous encounters in La Liga (4-0) and in the Supercopa Espana final (5-2) went clearly to FCB, who could now win their first major title under the coach who was brought to Catalonia last summer and who, according to rumors, appears to be on the verge of extending his contract beyond 2026.

The problem, however, is that both teams are currently paying the price for an extremely busy schedule. Several key players will be missing from the Copa del Rey final, which will be played on neutral ground in Seville, although it must be taken into account that Real Madrid have been hit harder than Barcelona. Hansi Flick will probably have to do without top scorer Robert Lewandowski. Carlo Ancelotti, on the other hand, has a virtually automatic defense following the recent injuries to David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga.

The Blaugrana’s current form also clearly points to them winning the title. In the 2025 calendar year, FC Barcelona has lost only one of its 27 competitive games (22 wins, four draws). Moreover, that 1-3 defeat in Dortmund was completely inconsequential, as the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final had already been won comfortably at home by 4-0. Real Madrid, on the other hand, have suffered three defeats in their last six competitive games.

Barcelona – Statistics & current form

FC Barcelona remain on course and have a realistic chance of celebrating a historic treble this summer. With five games to go in La Liga, they are four points ahead of Real Madrid. In the Champions League, the first leg of the semi-final against Inter Milan awaits next week. And in the Copa del Rey, Hansi Flick could secure his second title after the Supercopa Espana in January this Saturday. Incidentally, there was also a resounding 5-2 victory against Los Blancos in the final back then.

Hansi Flick seems to have a knack for the Clásico, as he and his Blaugrana stormed the Santiago Bernabéu in the first leg of La Liga and humiliated the Royals with a 4-0 away win. If the Catalans win again when Barcelona face Real Madrid, the German coach will have a 100% win rate after three Clásicos. According to rumors, his contract, which runs until 2026, is set to be extended in the near future.

Barcelona with a breathtaking record in 2025

No wonder, as FCB is currently in impressive form. In the 2025 calendar year, Barca lost only one of 27 competitive games (22 wins, four draws) – a inconsequential 1-3 defeat in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final at Borussia Dortmund, after the 4-0 win in the first leg had already sealed their progress. This was essentially a minor setback, especially as the following two La Liga matches against Celta Vigo (4-3) and Mallorca (1-0) were won again – albeit narrowly and, in the first case, with a bit of luck.

Far more problematic is the tightly packed schedule, which is taking its toll. Most recently, goal-scorer Robert Lewandowski was injured and will be sorely missed in the Copa del Rey final. Hansi Flick must continue to keep an eye on the players’ workload, but just four days after the cup final, he has the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan to contend with, in which the Catalans want to lay the foundation for reaching the final on home turf. However, given the importance of both games, there are unlikely to be any personnel experiments.

Predicted Barcelona line-up:
Szczesny – Martín, Cubarsí, Araujo, Koundé – Pedri, de Jong – Raphinha, López, Yamal – Torres

Real Madrid – statistics & current form

After Real Madrid not only won the league title in the 2023/24 season but also the UEFA Champions League, the new season threatens to be title-less. In the Champions League, Los Blancos crashed out of the quarter-finals against Arsenal FC. In La Liga, they are four points behind FC Barcelona. And in the cup final, the White Ballet will have to settle for the role of underdog. In the ODDSET app, the odds for Barcelona against Real Madrid are 3.10 for a Blancos victory in regular time.

Carlo Ancelotti is under pressure, with his departure this summer looking increasingly likely. However, the Merengues, who have lost three of their last six competitive games (three wins), still have a chance of winning the domestic double. Thanks to their exit from the Champions League, the Galacticos at least don’t have a busy week ahead of them before the upcoming La Liga clásico. That gives everyone involved some breathing space. If they manage to win away in Catalonia, they would only need to make up one point on the Blaugrana in the other four league games.

Real Madrid with major personnel worries

However, the injury woes that Real Madrid have been struggling with practically throughout this season are problematic. The latest away game at Getafe, which was won 1-0, was again indicative of this on Wednesday evening. First, David Alaba was injured and had to be substituted at half-time, then Eduardo Camavinga, who came on for the Austrian, was injured in the second half and also had to leave the field. The bad news followed a day later: a torn tendon in the adductor area – this could mean the end of the season for Camavinga, as well as the Club World Cup.

This means that the Blancos’ defense, which is already missing Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy, and Dani Carvajal, will probably have to regroup, making the Madrid team somewhat predictable. Fran García is likely to start at left back, where he will have the challenging task of defending against Lamine Yamal’s fast breaks. It’s hard to imagine that this will work well for 90 minutes and perhaps even beyond…

Real Madrid’s expected line-up:
Courtois – García, Asencio, Rüdiger, Vázquez – Tchouaméni, Modric, Bellingham, Rodrygo – Vinicius Jr., Mbappé

Barcelona – Real Madrid Head-to-head record / H2H record

Head to head: 102 – 52 – 105

The Clásico has been played 259 times in competitive matches so far, and the record is fairly even. The Blancos have won 105 times and the Blaugrana 102 times. Only 52 times – and thus in virtually only one in five Clásicos – has there been no winner. However, since Hansi Flick took over as coach of the Catalans, there have been two clear Barca victories against Real Madrid.

Barcelona – Real Madrid Tip

Basically, our prediction for Barcelona against Real Madrid is that the Blaugrana will win the title, having won both Clásicos very clearly under Hansi Flick with a total score of 9-2. The form curve also points clearly in the direction of the Catalans, who have lost only one of their 27 competitive games in 2025 (22 wins, four draws). The Blancos have suffered three times as many defeats in their last six competitive games alone (three wins). The fact that Carlo Ancelotti has to field a makeshift defense again only makes the situation all the more difficult for Los Blancos.

We wouldn’t rule out extra time, but we do expect a tough 0-0 draw. By betting on the double chance 1X with over 1.5 goals, we are taking many eventualities into account. Interwetten is offering odds of 1.57 for Barcelona vs. Real Madrid, which we are betting six out of ten units on.
