Will the Bullen end the away curse?
There are those constellations in which coach and team simply don’t harmonise without there being a good reason for it. Apparently that was the case with Jesse Marsch and RB Leipzig. The former coach apparently asked the RB bosses weeks ago whether the contract could not be terminated. Now the US American is history with the Saxons.
Domenico Tedesco is now expected to fix things and get the team going again. The goals are still ambitious. The aim is to go as far as possible in the DFB Cup and the Europa League, and the Bulls would of course be happy with a title. In the Bundesliga, they should once again reach the Champions League.
RasenBallsport is currently in seventh place. It is still five points to the top division, but if the team under Domenico Tedesco picks up speed again, then the Bullen will really attack in the spring. That’s why we wouldn’t make any predictions before the match between Augsburg and RB Leipzig that the Saxons will miss out on the Champions League.
Augsburg have completely different, but nevertheless familiar worries. Currently, the Fuggerstädter are in the relegation place. However, it’s really tight at the bottom.
Augsburg – Statistics & current form
The water is up to the neck for the Fuggerstädtern. However, many years in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga have steeled the FCA. From there, the Augsburgers can still do well even when their backs are against the wall. In between, there are signs of life here and there, so that they also have decent prospects of staying in the class this season.
Upswing in Augsburg
For the first time since September, Augsburg could celebrate two Bundesliga wins in a row on Wednesday. Seven points from four games, including a home win against Bayern, is a very decent haul and if FCA can beat FCB, then you may also look at the odds for a home win in the match between Augsburg and RB Leipzig.
Last weekend, the Puppeteers celebrated an extremely important away win at 1. FC Köln. The game was still goalless at the break and it took until the final stages before FC Augsburg were able to decide the match in their favour. Andre Hahn and Niklas Dorsch, with a dream goal, were the scorers in the 2-0 victory on the Rhine.
However, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw picked up his fifth yellow card and will now be missing against Leipzig, as will Felix Uduokhai, who is recovering from his infection. Markus Weinzierl will therefore have to make changes in central defence. Alfred Finnbogason and Tobias Strobl are missing due to injury. Arne Maier, Florian Niederlechner, Andi Zeqiri and Carlos Gruezo are all question marks.
Augsburg’s likely line-up:
Gikiewicz – Framberger, Gumny, Oxford, Iago – Moravek, Dorsch – Jensen, Vargas, Hahn – Gregoritsch – Coach: Weinzierl
RB Leipzig – Statistics & current form
Under Domenico Tedesco, things are supposed to be looking up again with the Bulls. At least tactically, he has already made some changes on his debut against Borussia Mönchengladbach. They have a new coach and the quarantine of the players is over. Now the Saxons can attack and want to get six points before Christmas.
Schlapp on the road
Most notably Christopher Nkunku and Andre Silva are expected to be the personnel to provide the boost in the coming games. While Nkunku is the best scorer, Andre Silva scored three times in a row recently. In general, however, the whole team must ensure that they now improve their poor away record of ten winless games.
We think they will succeed and are leaning heavily towards a prediction of a win for the visitors between Augsburg and RB Leipzig. Last weekend, RB won 4-1 at home against Gladbach, with Joko Gvardiol and Andre Silva scoring before the break. After Borussia’s late goal, Christopher Nkunku and Benjamin Henrichs scored for a clear victory.
In Augsburg, the Saxons will still have to do without Dani Olmo, Marcel Halstenberg, Yussuf Poulsen and Marcelo Saracchi due to injury. Amadou Haidara (ankle) and Lukas Klostermann (muscular problems) could perhaps become options by Wednesday. However, the fitness of both will only be decided in the short term.
Expected line-up of RB Leipzig:
Gulacsi – Simakan, Orban, Gvardiol – Mukiele, Laimer, Kampl, Angelino – Nkunku, Forsberg – Silva – Coach: Tedesco
Augsburg – RB Leipzig Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
To date, there are 14 duels between FC Augsburg and RB Leipzig in the history books of German football. In direct comparisons, the Bullen have fared much better and are 8:3 ahead after victories. Another three duels ended in a draw. The Fuggerstädter have had big problems against RB in recent years.
The last four games in the Bundesliga plus two duels in the DFB Cup went to the Saxons last time. Leipzig have thus won six times in a row against FCA. The last encounter took place in February this year at the Red Bull Arena. The Bullen went 2-0 in front through Dani Olmo and Christopher Nkunku. Daniel Caligiuri only managed to score the final goal.
Augsburg – RB Leipzig Tip
FC Augsburg are always good for a surprise. After all, they also won at home against FC Bayern a few weeks ago. Accordingly, a win against RB Leipzig should also be possible. With seven points from the last four games, the Fuggerstädter are in quite good shape.
Leipzig comes to Augsburg with the recommendation of two victories and has gained new self-confidence under Domenico Tedesco. The new coach has only had a short time to make adjustments, but it seems to have been successful.
We also believe that with Christopher Nkunku and Andre Silva, the Bullen will now be very dangerous offensively in the Fuggerstadt. We therefore also expect some goals to be scored and therefore we have decided to play the betting odds on an away win and more than 2.5 goals between Augsburg and RB Leipzig.
