Does Augsburg’s run continue?
With just five points out of a possible 21, FC Augsburg initially got off to the worst possible start. However, a change of coach brought about a turnaround. Under Jess Thorup, the club from the Fuggerstadt remained unbeaten in three Bundesliga games in a row (two wins, one draw) and climbed to tenth place. This means that Augsburg’s bet on the Bavarian Swabians picking up a point against Hoffenheim is not under a bad star either
However, FCA not only have a poor record against today’s visitors from Kraichgau, but Sinsheim are also the strongest away team in the Bundesliga. It is therefore difficult to predict the outcome of the match between Augsburg and Hoffenheim. So far, the Blue & Whites have picked up 15 out of a possible 15 points away from home
It is interesting to note that although Augsburg have scored in all three league games under Jess Thorup, they have always fallen behind without exception. This means that the Fuggerstädter have yet to keep a clean sheet in the 2023/24 season, so it makes sense to avoid the difficult three-way system by betting on a high-scoring game
Augsburg – Statistics & current form
Since their promotion to the Bundesliga 13 years ago, FC Augsburg have been embroiled in the relegation battle from time to time, but have always finished above the bottom line season after season. The club from the Fuggerstadt has never once been relegated.
At the end of the 2022-23 season, they once again finished in 15th place and were thus directly relegated. In the new season, however, the Bavarian Swabians got off to the worst possible start. The cup exit at third-division side Unterhaching (0:2) was followed by seven Bundesliga games, from which only five points were scored
Scored three times in a row after falling behind
This led to an early change of coach in the Bavarian south-west. Jess Thorup took over and was obviously able to press the right buttons straight away. On his debut under the Dane, the Fuggerstädter turned a 2-0 deficit into a win for the first time in their Bundesliga history (5:2).
This was followed by further points against Wolfsburg (3:2) and Cologne (1:1), in which Augsburg did not concede a goal, but were able to shine offensively with nine goals. Curious: In all three games, the Bavarian Swabians also scored after trailing
Lost only one of their five home games in 2023/24
For Augsburg against Hoffenheim, the betting odds on Thorup’s side picking up a point are not bad, especially as only Leverkusen and Bayern (nine points each) have picked up more points than the in-form Fuggerstädter (seven) in the last three matchdays.
The home record also speaks against a home defeat. After all, FCA have only lost one of their five home games at the WWK Arena in the 2023/24 season (two wins, two draws) and also beat the visitors from Kraichgau 1-0 at home in February this year.
Predicted Augsburg line-up:
Hoffenheim – Statistics & current form
TSG Hoffenheim have been part of the Bundesliga for 16 years. The players from the Kraichgau region have twice represented the top tier of German soccer in the Europa League. In 2018/19, the team from Sinsheim even competed in the Champions League.
The desire to bring European soccer to Baden-Württemberg once again is correspondingly great. Last season, however, the Blue & Whites only finished a disappointing twelfth in the final table and were unable to get involved in the battle for the international starting places
Won all five Bundesliga away matches in 2023/24
Currently, however, TSG are sixth in the table and are therefore well on course. First and foremost, this is due to their incredible away record. The Sinsheim side are top of the away table and have picked up a maximum haul of 15 out of a possible 15 points from their first five matches away from home.
Hoffenheim are only the third Bundesliga club of all time to win their first five away games of a season (after Dortmund in 2010/11 and Bayern in 2012/13). Only at home have they lost four of their first five home games of the 2023/24 season (one win).
Lost three of the last four competitive matches
Consistent betting odds are available for Augsburg against Hoffenheim, especially as the Sinsheim team’s away streak was, strictly speaking, broken a week and a half ago. In the DFB Cup, the team from the Kraichgau did not get past Borussia Dortmund 0:1 in the 2nd round.
Overall, TSG have lost three of their last four competitive matches (one win) and go into this away game against an up-and-coming opponent with considerably less momentum. After all, FCA is the Blue & Whites’ favorite opponent. Hoffenheim have not beaten any other team in the Bundesliga more times than Augsburg (14).
Predicted Hoffenheim line-up:
Augsburg – Hoffenheim head-to-head comparison / H2H result
Head to head: 12 – 6 – 18
There have been a total of 36 meetings between the two teams so far and with 18 wins, TSG Hoffenheim have won exactly half of all encounters with FC Augsburg. The Sinsheim side’s record in the Bundesliga is even better: the Blue & Whites have won 14 of their 24 Bundesliga encounters with FCA (four draws, six defeats). However, the Fuggerstädter won the last home game at the WWK Arena on February 17, 2023 with a 1-0 victory
Augsburg – Hoffenheim betting tip
In the run-up to the match between Augsburg and Hoffenheim, the odds of the bookmakers are completely balanced. While FCA’s upturn in fortunes since the change of manager speaks in their favor, TSG travel to the WWK Arena as the Bundesliga team with the strongest away record. Consequently, there are good reasons for both sides to win points, although the record perhaps speaks a little more in favor of the Sinsheim side, who lost their last game in the Fugger city 1-0.
The recent high goal shares in games involving Augsburg are particularly striking. Because we also expect two teams to play for victory, we find a lot of value in the Augsburg vs Hoffenheim prediction that both teams will score and that over 2.5 goals will be scored in total.
