Basement duel at WWK-Arena
It is always difficult to make concrete predictions before the season. However, it was clear in advance that FC Augsburg and Hertha BSC are facing quite a difficult season. Both clubs will probably be stuck in the relegation battle for long periods. All the more important is the direct duel between these two teams, which will kick off on Sunday at the WWK Arena.
FC Augsburg have had a hard time getting off the starting blocks, but they also had a tough opening programme. Still, three points from four games is not what FCA had hoped for. Above all, the two home defeats have given coach Enrico Maassen a hard time. On Sunday, the first win of the season in front of the home crowd is finally to be achieved.
They couldn’t have asked for a better opponent than the Big City Club from the capital. The Berliners have just one point on their account and not much is really going right under Sandro Schwarz. That’s why it’s worth making a prediction on a home win for the Fuggerstädter in the match between Augsburg and Hertha.
However, there is also a lot to suggest that the points will be shared. This season, all four matches that kicked off at 15:30 on Sunday ended in a draw. Moreover, the Bavarian Swabians have not played any other club in the Bundesliga to a draw more often.
Augsburg – Statistics & current form
A lot has happened in the squad of the puppet players before the season. Sporting, however, things are basically the same as always. FCA has to work hard for every point. However, Enrico Maaßen’s team has not yet picked up any momentum. Perhaps it will take a few more weeks before the team has found its feet under the new coach.
Still without a point in the WWK-Arena
For the third time, the Fuggerstädter have started a season with two home defeats. However, this statistic also has something positive, because that has been the case twice before and then at least the third match was won in their own arena. If we take this record into account, then we can certainly play the odds on a home win in the match between Augsburg and Hertha.
The past week has shown what Augsburg’s main shortcoming is. The attack lacks penetrating power. The game in Hoffenheim was decent, but if you hardly create any chances, then you lose 0:1 after conceding a goal. Mergim Berisha was loaned from Fenerbahce Istanbul during the week and should counteract this development.
The attacker, who won the European Championship with the U21 team, is expected to start directly. Andre Hahn could also be an option again after overcoming a sprained ligament. This should make more possible offensively. The injured Niklas Dorsch, Reece Oxford, Noah Joel Sarenren Bazee, Tobias Strobl and Felix Uduokhai will not be playing.
Predicted line-up of Augsburg:
Gikiewicz – Bauer, Gouweleeuw, Iago – Caligiuri, Rexhbecaj, Pedersen – Jensen, Maier – Berisha, Demirovic – Coach: Maaßen

Hertha – Statistics & current form
The old lady from the capital is proving more and more untrainable. Whatever the responsible persons at Hertha BSC take in hand, it bears no fruit. No matter whether new players or new coaches are brought in, the Berliners are wasting away and if this development continues, then Hertha will possibly no longer be a first-class team after this season.
Still winless under Sandro Schwarz
Sandro Schwarz is currently trying his hand with the Berliners and the success can be described as very moderate. In the Bundesliga, there was only one point in four games. In addition, there was the elimination in the first round of the cup in Braunschweig. All games away from home were lost and therefore, before the duel between Augsburg and Hertha, we remain with the prediction of a home victory.
After all, the Berliners have been relatively stable recently, conceding just one goal in each of their last three games. After the 1:1 at home against Frankfurt, they still suffered a 0:1 defeat in Gladbach and at home against Dortmund. At least there were positive signs, which Sandro Schwarz also saw and which the coach can build on in the coming games.
It is possible that Jean-Paul Boetius, who has been in poor form lately, will initially take a seat on the bench in Augsburg. Ivan Sunjic could move into the team in his place. Especially on the offensive side, it can’t hurt to have options like Davie Selke, Stevan Jovetic or Marco Richter. Linus Gechter, Dong-Jun Lee, Jesse Ngankam and Kelian Nsona will be missing due to injury or illness.
Projected line-up of Hertha:
Christensen – Kenny, Kempf, Dardai, Plattenhardt – Sunjic, Tousart, Serdar – Lukebakio, Kanga, Ejuke – Coach: Schwarz
Last matches played by Hertha:

27/08/2022 – Hertha BSC 0 – 1 Borussia Dortmund
20/08/2022 – Gladbach 1 – 0 Hertha BSC
13/08/2022 – Hertha BSC 1 – 1 Eintracht Frankfurt
06/08/2022 – Union Berlin 3 – 1 Hertha BSC
DFB Cup
31/07/2022 – Braunschweig (6)4 – 4(5) Hertha BSC
Augsburg – Hertha Direct comparison / H2H-Balance
A total of 22 times the teams of FC Augsburg and Hertha BSC have faced each other so far. 20 of these duels took place in the Bundesliga, two games resulted from the second division from the 2010/11 season, when both teams were promoted to the top flight together. In the direct comparison, the old lady is 9:3 ahead after victories. Ten duels ended in a draw.
In total, the Capitals have lost only one of the last 15 Bundesliga games against the Fuggerstädter. Last season, the first match was a 1-1 draw at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. Hertha won the return match in the WWK Arena in April with 1:0. Suat Serdar was the scorer of the golden goal.
Augsburg – Hertha Tip
A series will definitely be snapped on Sunday. FC Augsburg have lost all their home games so far this season, while Hertha have always been losers away from home. That certainly doesn’t make it any easier to place the right bet in this match. The prices are therefore relatively close to each other.
Both teams have had problems on the offensive in this young season, but are very solid defensively. Conversely, this means that this match will most likely not offer a fireworks display of scoring chances.
In our opinion, it looks like this match could end 1-0 or 2-0 in favour of the home side. Bets on a win for the puppet players could therefore also be suitable. However, the odds on a simple home win are interesting in themselves and that is why we have decided to play the betting odds on a successful performance by FCA between Augsburg and Hertha.
