Can Atletico crack Mallorca’s strong defense?

Atletico Madrid is on the way to stabilizing again, now the so far flawless week should be rounded off. After weeks of setbacks and point losses, there have now been two important wins in a row, and the third is to follow on Sunday evening when Atletico visits RCD Mallorca. Kick-off at the Visit Mallorca Estadi is on Sunday afternoon at 4:15 pm. It is the second uncomfortable away game in a few days. The fact that it will be another tough game for the Rojiblancos, as in Paris, is already indicated by the odds of the top betting providers in the Mallorca vs. Atletico Madrid betting tip.

Atletico’s away performances and yield also ensure that the Mallorca vs. Atletico Madrid tip for an away win is not a sure thing, even if there was a (late and lucky) away win in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. But their performances in away games have often not yielded the desired result, so Atletico is now hoping for an improvement in this respect.

Will the guests from the capital, who have been so weak away from home so far, celebrate their next away win within a few days and get the perfect nine-point haul within a week before the international break?

We will look at that in this preview, including an analysis of form and statistics, a head-to-head comparison and our own Mallorca vs Atletico Madrid prediction at the end. Mallorca – Statistics & current form

RCD Mallorca is one of two teams, along with CA Osasuna, that could not have been expected before the season after about a third of the season in the top 8 of the table. The Majorcans have made a strong start to the season under their new coach Jagoba Arrasate, who was brought in from Osasuna over the summer, and have already notched up 18 points (5 wins, 4 draws, 3 defeats), putting them just three points behind the Champions League places.

It is striking that Mallorca scores consistently both at home and away, with nine points each being earned in front of their own fans and in front of their opponents’ fans. Arrasate’s mission was also to finally get out of the ongoing relegation battle in which last year’s cup finalist was always under former coach Javier Aguirre.

Five clean sheets: Mallorca also strong defensively under Arrasate

That Mallorca would start so well with Arrasate is still a surprise. In home games, however, you can still see much of what Mallorca already had under Aguirre: a very stable defense and good and cohesive work against the ball. They have only conceded three home goals and one home defeat – and have already played five times this season without conceding a goal. Only Atletico and Real Sociedad have kept six clean sheets. In terms of statistics, Mallorca are in the bottom half in terms of possession (46%), accurate passes (291) and shots on target per game (10.8) they are even in the bottom third.

In view of this, you shouldn’t expect a spectacular or goal-filled game, quite the opposite. The last few duels already show (see the paragraph on the direct comparison below) that these duels are often tough. The Mallorca vs. Atletico Madrid tip on both meeting no or under 2.5 goals is therefore obvious.

Atletico Madrid – Statistics & current form

Atletico rarely score goals in away games anyway. Atletico have only scored two away goals this season, on the first matchday in the 2-2 draw at Villarreal and a few days ago in the Champions League at PSG, when they scored a late counterattack to secure an extremely flattering 2-1 win.

The win was not deserved, and once again, Simeone’s team played extremely unadventurous, defensively-focused football (four shots, 29 percent possession) – but once again, they scored the important goal for the three points in the 90th minute or injury time. This has already happened to Celta Vigo (1-0) and Athletic Bilbao (1-0) – two undeserved away wins after poor performances – as well as against Real Madrid (1-1) and RB Leipzig (2-1).

Before Mallorca duel: Atletico Madrid often timid, discouraged and inhibited away from home

Now, with the self-confidence they have gained, Atletico also want to add to it in La Liga in an away game; after all, away wins have been few and far between so far. The Rojiblancos have only won three of their eight away games in the league and the Champions League. In La Liga, they have scored only six goals in six away games so far, and if you add the CL, it is eight goals in eight away games. As we said, Atletico often play overcautiously, tentatively and inhibitedly away from home.

This also explains why the Mallorca vs. Atletico Madrid betting odds for the away win are an interesting 2.30 odds on average. Interesting value for sure, but also fraught with a certain amount of risk. If you want to hedge your bets on this tip, you can use a free bet without a deposit as a precaution.

Mallorca – Atletico Madrid Head to Head Comparison

Another reason why we do not expect a spectacular game is the recent record in direct comparisons: four of the last five meetings between these teams have ended 1-0. Atletico have won twice in a row with this result, and Mallorca have won twice.

There have been 18 goals in the last ten games, an average of 1.8 per game. Another reason to check out the Mallorca vs. Atletico Madrid odds for a low scoring game, we can also see a 0-0 half time score as a possibility.

The overall record in this duel reads as follows: of 63 games, Atletico won almost half, namely 31 games. 14 games ended in a draw, and Mallorca won 18 times.

Mallorca – Atletico Madrid Tip

So we expect another tough game when Atletico Madrid and Mallorca meet on Sunday. After all, the team that concedes the fewest goals meets the team that concedes the second-fewest. Couple the home side’s unruliness in front of their own fans with Atletico’s tentative, overcautious away style of play, and it doesn’t take much imagination to see how this game is likely to play out.

However, we think it is possible again that Atletico can score a (late?) lucky punch in an even game that is as balanced as it is low in highlights – it would truly not be the first this season. We think the odds for a win for the away team are very appealing, which is why we are including the Mallorca vs. Atletico Madrid prediction. Knowing full well that this game could easily end 1-1 or 0-0.
