Will the Bergamasks now slip out of the top four?

The Nerazzurri were a constant in the rearview mirrors of Inter Milan and Napoli before they were sidelined in the last two months. The last three Serie A games have all been lost, without “La Dea” even scoring. If the tip for an away win by the Rossoblù against Bologna also comes true at Atalanta Bergamo, the Bergamasks could be threatened with falling out of the top four.

For this to happen, Juventus Turin would only have to win against Lecce on Saturday, which is highly likely. However, the Nerazzurri also have it in their own hands. If the prediction of a home win for Atalanta Bergamo against Bologna comes true, the reigning Europa League champions would definitely remain in third place in the table through their own efforts. However, the Bergamasks have already lost 1-0 at home to Veltri in the Coppa Italia at the beginning of February.

In fact, this duel has been clearly in the hands of the Emilians, who have not lost to Atalanta Bergamo in five competitive games (four wins, one draw). Therefore, betting on the Rossoblù to score again is not without interest, especially since the Champions League participant has only lost four of the 31 Serie A games played so far in the 2024/25 season (15 wins, twelve draws). This can be attributed to the Veltri’s defensive compactness, which could once again become a factor.

Atalanta Bergamo – Statistics & current form

As European champions, Atalanta Bergamo naturally had high hopes for the new season, but initially struggled a little. But then the Nerazzurri got back on track and even entered the fight for the Scudetto, from which they have now withdrawn for good, having won only two of their last seven league games (two draws, three defeats) and now trailing ten points behind the leaders.

It is particularly bitter for the Lombards that their goal-scoring prowess has gone missing. In five of their last seven league games, “La Dea” have not scored a goal of their own. Against one of the most stable defensive lines in the Serie A, it should therefore be all the more difficult for the Bergamasks, who, to make matters worse, have not won against Bologna in five competitive games (one draw, four defeats). All too much does not speak in favor of the home win of the Orobici at Atalanta Bergamo against Bologna.

Atalanta Bergamo with a mixed home record

The Nerazzurri’s home form has also been much better in the past. With only 25 out of a possible 45 points at home, Gian Piero Gasperini’s team are only ninth in the home table. They have only won seven of their 15 Serie A home games. In their last four home games, they have drawn all four and, more importantly, have not scored in any of them: 0-0 against Cagliari, 0-0 against Venezia, 0-2 against Inter Milan and 0-1 against Lazio.

There is no question that “La Dea” is in a bad way and, if they lose again at home, they could even slip out of the top four, which would make the recent mess perfect. However, the thumping of Empoli (5-0) and Juventus (4-0) showed that there is another way, although these results also underline the fact that the Lombards have lost all consistency and that a lot currently depends on the Nerazzurri’s volatile form.

Bologna – Statistics & current form

It took Bologna FC quite a while to get going in the new season after their groundbreaking qualification for the Champions League with a new coach and new personnel. But now the Veltri (in English: the greyhounds) are on the verge of repeating last year’s coup. Although the odds against it are in favor of Atalanta Bergamo against Bologna and the Bet365 app, for example, quotes of 4.00 are advertised for Tip 2. However, if the Emilians win on the road, they would overtake the Bergamasque and climb to third place.

In addition, the Rossoblù even have a chance of winning a title. After a 1-0 away win in Bergamo in February in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals, they are already 3-0 up after an away win at Empoli FC in the semi-final, which they should have little difficulty in seeing out. The Emilians are thus in with a chance of reaching the Coppa Italia final, where they will face either Inter Milan or AC Milan.

Bologna defend well and rarely lose

There is no doubt that the in-form Veltri do not need to hide. Vincenzo Italiano’s men have not lost in seven competitive games (six wins, one draw). They have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four competitive games and have scored an impressive ten goals in the process. In this form, they should be able to get something out of the game at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, although it should be noted that three of the four defeats this season have come in away games at national level.

Nevertheless, Bologna FC has a strong mix of defensive compactness and offensive power, so there is every reason to believe that the seven-game unbeaten streak in Lombardy can be extended. After all, only Inter Milan and Juventus Turin (three times each) have lost less often in the first 31 matchdays of the 2024/25 season than the Rossoblù (four times).

Atalanta Bergamo – Bologna Direct comparison / H2H record

Head to head: 45 – 35 – 47

A total of 127 meetings have taken place between the two teams so far and with 47 wins, Bologna FC now lead the way in the direct comparison. This is due to the last few duels. Atalanta Bergamo have not won against the Rossoblù in their last five competitive games (one draw, four defeats). It was only at the beginning of February that “La Dea” were beaten at home in the Coppa Italia.

Atalanta Bergamo vs. Bologna tip

Although the Nerazzurri have lost their last three Serie A games without scoring, the betting odds of the best betting providers are in favor of the home side in the game between Atalanta Bergamo and Bologna. This is also a very bold assessment given that “La Dea” have not beaten the Rossoblù in five competitive games (one draw, four defeats). On top of that, the Emilians have only lost four of their 31 Serie A games and defend extremely compactly.

Although we see the visitors as having a slight advantage, we would still advise against using the three-way system. The prediction that the game between Atalanta Bergamo and Bologna will not be too high-scoring at the Stadio Gewiss is therefore consistent.
