Gerrard and Lampard in duel
The second matchday of the new season is already taking place in the English Premier League and the teams are eager to get off to a good start in the 2022/23 season. Experience shows, however, that not every team will succeed.
In the run-up to the Aston Villa vs Everton match, the betting odds indicate favouritism for the Birmingham hosts. Everton should not be underestimated though, the Toffees made a rock solid impression on matchday one.
This early in the season, it’s impossible to fully determine where the journey will take the clubs anyway. The game will kick off at Villa Park on Saturday at the early kick-off time of 13:30.
Aston Villa – Statistics & current form
Of course, Aston Villa were not entirely satisfied with their pre-season outcome in the end. The team from Birmingham delivered some good games, but lacked consistency. To make things better this season, they signed some new players. Diego Carlos and Ludwig Augustinsson came from Sevilla, and the permanent signing of Coutinho also gave the team a boost. In addition, the coveted Boubacar Kamara arrived from Marseille.
Aston Villa have a good squad at their disposal and have always done very well against Everton since they were promoted again in 2019. None of the six games played against the Toffees since then have been lost by the hosts. The aim now, of course, is to build on that. However, the overall record in 2022 is mixed, and the team needs to gain a bit more momentum.
Especially at home, things don’t look so good in the calendar year. In 2022, Aston Villa only won two of their ten home games in the Premier League. So now it’s time to improve those statistics a little. The start of the season also came with a small damper, with a 2-0 defeat at promoted Bournemouth.
Aston Villa hope for more stability and consistency
For coach Steven Gerrard and the coaching team, 2022/23 will be about getting the most out of this team. Aston Villa have failed to win five consecutive competitive games, with only two of their last 12 matches finishing with a win on a season-long basis. After Everton, they have unpleasant fixtures in Crystal Palace, West Ham, Arsenal and Manchester City.
That’s why it’s important for the hosts, who are still favoured by the bookmakers against Everton FC, to take a first step and get the win. That would give them a little more self-confidence for the tasks ahead. The aim is to improve the defence, which conceded 54 goals last season, which is not catastrophic, but also not up to standard. If 52 goals are only enough for 45 points, something has to change.
Offensively, Aston Villa can always create something and Everton also have a few areas to work on. That’s why, ahead of the Aston Villa vs Everton game, our prediction is that the home side will win.

Everton – Statistics & current form
For Everton, the 2021/22 season was anything but ideal. In the end, the Toffees were lucky not to be relegated to the Championship. The question now is: can the club improve this season? Everton have failed to score three times in a row away at Aston Villa, and the perfect opponent does not seem to be waiting for them.
Still, there are factors that give encouragement. In the opening 1-0 defeat to Chelsea, Everton looked alert for long stretches, very clear in the duels and with a plan to generate offensive goals. These are the most important factors for success away at Aston Villa.
However, the hosts are the favourites, which also has to do with the fact that Everton still have a little more catching up to do in their squad. Onana, Tarkowski, McNeil, Vinagre and Coady, two of whom were only signed this week, are a good start. There would still be some catching up to do in attack as Richarlison has not yet been replaced.
Everton hope for a good away start
The visitors will be looking to make a success of their first away game of the season. The Toffees have not lost their opener away from home eleven times in a row, although that is only of limited significance due to changing squads and opponents. Offensively, there is still work to be done as Everton scored only 43 goals in pre-season and the only player to score in double figures has left the club.
There have now been four defeats in the last seven games across the season. That, of course, gnaws at a team’s confidence. There was a plan against Chelsea, but in the final third it was often too awkward. That’s why, ahead of the Aston Villa vs Everton game, our value tip is that both teams won’t score.
Predicted Everton line-up:
Pickford – Coleman, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko – Allan, Onana, Andre Gomes, Alli, Gray – Gordon

Aston Villa – Everton Direct Comparison / H2H Record
226 times both teams have faced each other directly. The balance is very even. Aston Villa have won 84 times, while Everton have come out on top 82 times. Recently, the pendulum has swung relatively clearly in the direction of Aston Villa.
Aston Villa – Everton bet
Aston Villa are undoubtedly favourites ahead of the home game against Everton, as their squad looks more rounded, more finished and more stable overall. Moreover, the visitors have always looked poor recently when this opponent has been on the agenda.
That should be a factor, also for this match. Because ahead of the Aston Villa vs Everton game, our tip is that the hosts will win the game.
