Will the favourites prevail in the quarter-finals of the Champions League?
On Tuesday, the ladies of AS Roma welcome the team of FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The roles are clearly distributed in this pairing, as the guests are one of the favourites to win the top division. Accordingly, the bookmakers’ betting odds between AS Roma and Barcelona Ladies clearly point to a win for the visiting team. Even in their own stadium, the hosts are the very clear underdogs and should therefore have little chance of advancing.
The hosts are in first place in the Serie A home table and should therefore be confident going into the game, even if it probably won’t be enough for a win in the end. At home, the ladies of AS Roma have only lost one game this season and that was in a 2-4 defeat to Juventus Torino.
With twelve wins from the last 13 games, the Roman ladies are in very good form. The only defeat was against AC Milan. In the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, Alessandro Spugna’s team lost 1-0 to Milan, but turned that result around in the second leg and are now in the final.
As the visitors have won all 22 of their league matches, FC Barcelona are also top of the away table. In the current season, the Spaniards have only lost one match – in the group match, 1:3 in Munich.
There is hardly any need to talk about the form of the visiting team, as their defeats in the last two years can be counted on one hand. Therefore, the guests are the very big favourites to win the Champions League. For this reason, between AS Roma and Barcelona Ladies, the odds are more than clearly in favour of an away win.
We recommend betting on an away win between AS Roma and Barcelona Ladies with a handicap of -2. The visitors have won 26 of 31 games this season with at least a three-goal difference. The host leads the Serie A but did not win both duels against Juventus Torino. Against Barca, the Romans will have even greater difficulties. We therefore expect a class difference and can well imagine that everything is already decided after the first leg.
AS Roma – Statistics & current form
The women of AS Roma prevailed in Group B of the Champions League. Spugna’s side picked up 13 points from six group games and finished the group stage in second place behind VfL Wolfsburg. In doing so, the Italians knocked SKN St. Pölten and SK Slavia Prague out of the competition. The hosts are the clear underdogs in the quarter-finals of the top flight, as the home team lacks experience on the international stage. In any case, a progress of the Roman women would be a big sensation.
Leaders in Italy
The Roman women are currently leading the highest Italian division and are on a very good path towards the championship. The Spugna team took 51 points from 19 games and thus only lost two games.
They are eight points ahead of second place, currently occupied by Juventus Turin. The two teams will meet twice more in the league. Accordingly, these duels could decide the title battle.
The summer newcomer
In the summer of 2022, Valentina Giacinti moved to Roma from AC Milan after previously being loaned to Fiorentina. The transfer was a resounding success for AS Roma, with the striker scoring 18 goals across the competition and setting up two others.
The Italian international is now the top scorer in the Spugna team and one of the key players in the entire squad. She has also scored a number of times for the Italian women and is one of the regulars in the senior side.
The home-grown midfielder
Manuela Guigliano is already one of the best players in Serie A at the age of 25. This season, the Italian has scored ten goals and set up seven assists across the competition. This makes her the second best scorer in the Roman women’s team behind Giacinti.
Her strengths lie above all in her ball handling, dribbling and overview. At 1.60 m, she is also very fast and can thus compensate for her physical deficits very well. The midfielder is also part of the Italian national team and consequently has high potential.
Predicted line-up of AS Roma:
Cesar – Serturini, Wenninger, Linari, Minami, Haavi – Greggi, Guigliano, Cinotti – Giacinti, Alves

Barcelona Ladies – Statistics & current form
The FC Barcelona ladies are the best team to watch in women’s football. In Group D of the Champions League, the Spanish women topped the group ahead of FC Bayern Munich, Benfica Lisbon and Rosengard. The visitors only lost one match all season and that was in the group stage against the ladies from Munich. In the previous season, the FC Barcelona women had already reached the final and were therefore among the favourites for the title. However, the Champions League was won by Olympique Lyon in the end.
Absolute dominance
Barcelona have won all of their past 59 league games and therefore seem untouchable nationally. The last loss of points in the Primera Division came on 01.06.2021 with a 3:4 against Atletico Madrid!
Therefore, the FC Barcelona women are also on top this season and could win the fourth championship title in a row. The lead over second place is currently ten points, and this despite the fact that the ladies of Real Madrid have already played one game more.
Top scorer from Nigeria
Asisat Oshoala is one of the best players in the entire world. The striker has scored 24 goals and set up five assists across all competitions this season. This gives her the most goal contributions in Jonatan Giraldez’s team.
Her qualities have been undisputed for years, having played for Liverpool FC and Arsenal FC. Oshoala’s strengths are clearly her two-footedness and finishing, which makes her a real weapon in front of goal.
Continued to be injured
The FC Barcelona squad features the best female footballer in the world – Alexia Putellas. The attacking midfielder won the second Ballon D’Or in a row in October 2022. No player in the history of women’s football has ever achieved this before.
Before the 2022 European Championship, however, the world footballer suffered a serious injury and missed the tournament – she was diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament. Since then, the Spaniard has not been back on the pitch and will probably miss several more months.
Predicted line-up of Barcelona women:
Panos – Bronze, Paredes, Leon, Guijarro – Walsh, Rolfo, Bonmati, Oshoala, Graham – Paralluelo

AS Roma – Barcelona Women Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
There is no direct comparison between the two teams to date. Next Tuesday’s clash will be the first meeting between the two clubs. This is primarily due to the fact that AS Roma have never been in the women’s top flight before. It’s a different story for Barcelona, where the Champions League is already part of everyday life. For this reason, our prediction between the AS Roma and Barcelona women goes clearly in the direction of the visitors.
AS Roma – Barcelona Ladies Tip
We are betting on a win for the visiting team between AS Roma and Barcelona. The visitors are the clear favourites in this duel and anything other than a three-goal win would be a big surprise. The Spaniards are one of the top favourites for the trophy and have more experience on the international stage. In addition, the FC Barcelona women have only conceded nine goals this season. On the other hand, they have played 22 games without conceding a goal. Thus, an almost insurmountable task awaits the Italians.
Alternatively, we find the odds for over 2.5 team goals by the visitors between AS Roma and Barcelona Ladies very interesting. The visiting team stands at 142 goals in 31 games this season, averaging 4.58 goals per game. Roma are quite good defensively, but lost to Juventus Torino and VfL Wolfsburg both with four goals conceded. Therefore, three goals from the Spaniards do not seem unlikely.
