Saving grains for the semi-finals
Almost all questions have been answered in the main round Group II. The last three games still have to be played on Tuesday before the teams leave Hamburg. The top three teams will move on to Cologne, either for the semifinals or to play the match for fifth place. In our Slovenia vs Denmark betting tip, we check whether the Slovenians will accompany the world champions to the Rhine.
In the event of a tie on points, the direct comparison also counts in this main round and therefore the tickets for the Final Four have already been allocated. Denmark are still unbeaten. 8:0 points mean group victory one matchday before the end of the main round. The world champions are now just waiting for their opponent in the semi-final, which will be played on Friday in the Lanxess Arena.
The defending champions have secured the second slot for the semi-finals of the 2024 European Handball Championship. With 6:2 points, the reigning European champions from Sweden can no longer be displaced from second place. The question now is, who of the other candidates still wants to travel from Hamburg to Cologne for a match for fifth place? Slovenia or Portugal are the last two contenders. Both have 4:4 points. The Iberians certainly have the better cards
Ahead of the match between Slovenia and Denmark, the prediction is clearly in favor of a win for the world champions. However, the Slovenians must score points to finish third in this group. The direct comparison goes to the Portuguese. We assume that Denmark and Sweden will be accompanied to Cologne by the Portuguese, while Uros Zorman’s team will travel home on Tuesday after a long tournament
Slovenia – statistics & current form
The European Championship has dragged on for a long time. It’s not just a question of who has more quality in their ranks, but also who is more fit. Last but not least, it depends on who wants to give it their all on this last matchday of the main round. Of course, the Slovenians will not concede the match against the world champions, but we expect that the air could be out of them
Slovenia keep their sights set on the Olympics
If everything goes according to plan, the Slovenians will finish tenth at the World Championship qualifiers and may well be in a group with Spain, Bahrain and Brazil with a good chance of securing one of the two tickets to Paris in this pool. Whether they finish fifth or eighth at the European Championships should no longer play a decisive role
Overall, their 4:2 win record at the European Championships is okay. The defeat against Sweden was certainly planned for. They had probably hoped for a little more against Portugal. On the other hand, there were victories against Norway and most recently against the Netherlands. Even if there could theoretically still be a match to play after the clash against the world champions, the team can basically be satisfied with their record.
On Sunday, they beat the Dutch 37:34. In this encounter, the Slovenians showed that they still had a few more arrows in their quiver. However, it was clear to both teams that the focus was on winning. As a result, they also neglected their defense somewhat. It’s conceivable that this will be the case again on Tuesday, which is why we’re looking at the odds for a higher number of goals in the clash between Slovenia and Denmark, which are likely to be over 60.
Predicted line-up of Slovenia:
- Goal: Vujovic, Ferlin, Lesjak
- Back line: Zarabec, Ovnicek, Bombac, Vlah, Henigman, Mackovsek, Dolenec, Cehte, Kliun
- Left wing: Jovicic, Mazej, Kodrin
- Right wing: Marguc, Novak
- Circle: Blagotinsek, Horzen, Drobez, Suholeznik
- Coach: Zorman
Denmark – Statistics & current form
The Danes have recently become world champions three times in a row. This not only shows the quality of Nikolaj Jacobsen’s team, but is also a certain obligation not to take games lightly. We therefore expect the Danes to go full throttle again on Tuesday, at least until the match against the Slovenians is decided early
Impressive run by the world champions
The Vikings will do everything in their power to travel to Cologne for the Final Four with a clean slate. Nikolaj Jacobsen’s team has won all six games at this tournament and also prevailed in the Scandinavian duels against European champions Sweden and Norway. That’s why it wouldn’t occur to us to predict that the world champions will lose a point in the clash between Slovenia and Denmark
The Danish team is now unbeaten in a total of 27 international matches. Since October 2022, they have only had to settle for a draw against Croatia and Norway. The Danes are still the top favorites to win the European Championship title. They could therefore lift two of the three major trophies before heading to the Olympic Games in Paris in the summer. The Danes are already guaranteed a place at the Summer Games thanks to their World Championship gold last year.
But first let’s take a look at the European Championship, which still has three games in store for the world champions. On Sunday, there were no two opinions as to who would win the match against Norway. The Danes took an early lead and went on to win 29:23. We expect the world champions to continue their winning streak against Slovenia, if only to stay in the flow and not show any weaknesses to their opponents for the Final Four.
Predicted Denmark line-up:
- Goal: N. Landin, Nielsen
- Back line: Lauge, Mensah Larsen, Pytlick, Möllgaard, M. Hansen, Damgaard, Mensing, Kirkelökke, Gidsel, Madsen
- Left wing: M. Landin, Jakobsen
- Right wing: Lindberg, J. Hansen
- Circle: Saugstrup, Jörgensen, Hald
- Coach: Jacobsen
Slovenia – Denmark head-to-head comparison / H2H record
Since the turn of the millennium, the national teams from Slovenia and Denmark have faced each other in a total of 14 matches. The direct comparison is of course a clear-cut affair for the Vikings. In terms of victories, the reigning world champions are 11:2 ahead in this period. One match ended in a draw. However, if anything, the success at the 2000 European Championship was the only one the Slovenians can point to.
Otherwise, the Danes can be relied on in direct comparisons. The last match was almost exactly two years ago, when they met in the preliminary round of the European Championship. The Danes did not give the underdogs the slightest chance and ended up winning 34:23, meaning the Slovenians had to bow out early, while Montenegro accompanied Nikolaj Jacobsen’s team into the main round.
Slovenia – Denmark betting tip
Of course, as a sports professional you always strive for the highest honors. But the Slovenians simply won’t care whether they finish fifth or eighth at the European Championships. Uros Zorman’s team would probably prefer to save themselves another day of traveling and not travel to Cologne at all. There is positive news from there. The odds at our betting provider Interwetten show that Slovenia have no chance against the world champions and will therefore finish this main round in fourth place, meaning that the European Championship should be over on Tuesday.
This does not apply to the Danes. The world champions will be in full action until Saturday and will do everything in their power to become European champions once again after twelve years. The Vikings have been unbeaten in 27 international matches. The title will only go to the world champions. On Tuesday, they will be looking for another win to keep their record at the tournament. In our opinion, the tip in the duel between Slovenia and Denmark has to go to a clear handicap victory for the Danes
We’re also expecting a few goals again, as there’s not really much at stake overall. It is conceivable that the defensive work will not be completely in focus. In the end, we assume that there will be a clear Danish success with probably a lot of goals. We have therefore decided to play the odds on a victory for the world champions with a total of more than 62.5 goals between Slovenia and Denmark
