Will the Seahawks get their fourth win in a row against Carolina?
The Seattle Seahawks face the Carolina Panthers on the 14th day of play in the National Football League. The host is the clear favourite and that is mainly due to the weak season of the guests. The Panthers have hardly any chance of reaching the NFL playoffs and are therefore the clear underdogs. This is also reflected between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers in the betting odds, which clearly favour a home win.
With five wins from the past seven games, the Seahawks are in very good form. After a short dry spell of two defeats in a row, there was a win against the LA Rams last weekend. But the Panthers have also been able to pull off something recently with two wins from their past three games. Still, between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers, the odds are pointing to the visitors’ next loss.
Wide receiver Tyler Lockett of the Seattle Seahawks could play a major role in this game. Especially because running back Kenneth Walker is questionable for the upcoming game, the Seahawks will have to operate more through the passing game. Lockett has scored at least one touchdown in each of the past five games. Therefore, we recommend betting on Tyler Lockett’s sixth touchdown in a row in the game between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers.
Seattle Seahawks – Statistics & current form
The Seattle Seahawks are currently in sixth place in the Northern Football Conference. Currently, seven wins and five losses would be enough for them to make the playoffs, but the competition is hot on their heels. However, there is still a chance to knock the 49ers off the top of the NFC West and thus secure a place in the playoffs.
Offense is clearly the Seahawks’ strength, as their 26.5 points per game is among the best in the NFL. While this is mostly due to the passing game, the team is also well-stocked in the running game. This is primarily due to Kenneth Walker III, who ranks eighteenth among runners with 649 rushing yards. Much more impressive, however, are his nine touchdowns, as only four players can currently top that figure.
Tyler Lockett x D.K. Metcalf
The biggest strength, however, is in the passing game, as the Seahawks have two incredibly strong wide receivers in Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf. Lockett ranks twelfth in the league with 836 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Metcalf follows only a few places behind him with 798 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The latter is questionable for the game against the Panthers, but will likely play.
Weak Defensive
While the offense is delivering, the defense seems to be having major problems. On average, the Seattle Seahawks allow 25.3 points per game. Only four teams are worse than Pete Carroll’s team. This is primarily due to the defence against the running game, as the Seahawks allow an average of 155.3 rushing yards. There is only one team that allows more rushing yards and that is the Houston Texans.
Key players for the Seattle Seahawks:
QB: Geno Smith – RB: Kenneth Walker III – WR: Tyler Lockett – WR: D.K. Metcalf – K: Jason Myers
Carolina Panthers – stats & recent form
The Carolina Panthers are in thirteenth place in the NFC and thus have little realistic chance of making the playoffs. Out of the first twelve games, Steve Wilks’ team could only win four games. The desired progress compared to the previous season was thus not there.
The departure of Mayfield
The Panthers went into the season with Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback. But after only five games, Philip Walker took over his position. And even after Walker’s injury, Mayfield was no longer relied upon. Instead, Sam Darnold was last on the field and Baker Mayfield’s contract was terminated. However, he was only without a club for a few days and signed with the LA Rams this week.
All the back and forth at the most important position in the sport is hurting the entire team and that is reflected in the offensive performance. At just 19.2 points per game, the Panthers boast one of the weakest offenses in the NFL. This is primarily due to the weak passing game, as Carolina averages just 174.6 passing yards per game. In addition, the running game is not strong enough to make up for the deficits.
Missing resources
On defense, the Panthers are solid, allowing just 22.2 points per game. Especially against the passing game Carolina makes a very decent impression and allows only 212.5 passing yards. Against the run game, the problems are a bit bigger, as the team allows an average of 135.7 rushing yards and is thus one of the weaker teams in the NFL. In the game against the Seahawks, the quality will most likely not be enough, because they simply lack the means.
Key players of the Carolina Panthers:
QB: Sam Darold – RB: D’Onta Foreman – WR: D.J. Moore – OL: Frankie Luvu – K: Eddy Pineiro
Seattle Seahawks – Carolina Panthers Head-to-head / H2H record
The head-to-head comparison between the Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers goes to the hosts. Pete Carroll’s team could win ten of the fourteen duels. The Seahawks are currently on three wins in a row and are thus also favoured for the upcoming encounter, even though the last meeting took place three years ago. This underpins our prediction of a home win between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers.
Seattle Seahawks – Carolina Panthers Tip
We recommend betting on a -3.0 handicap win for the hosts between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers. Pete Carroll’s team is especially dangerous on offence. In Geno Smith, Seattle has found a quarterback who is rising above himself this season.
The teamwork with his teammates is excellent. The Panthers are very solid on defense, but against this offense it would take near perfect play from the defense to get a win.
The visitors also lack qualities on the offensive end to take pressure off their own defence. The Panthers have one of the weakest offensive lines and especially without their quarterback Walker it will be hard to score many points here.
Carolina’s QB is still injured and will not be back on the field on Sunday, according to ESPN. Given that, the odds on the visitors scoring under 19.5 team points between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers are also very interesting.
