Bulls meet Eisbären: New edition of the DEL final 2022!
For the first time since losing the final in the 2021/22 DEL playoffs, the Bullen from Munich will meet the Eisbären from Berlin again and are eager for revenge. In the run-up to the upcoming top match, the Munich team once again boosted their self-confidence with a 4:1 win against Iserlohn. The Eisbären, on the other hand, had an exhausting match against the Frankfurt Lions.
In the meantime still leading 4:0, the Berliners had a surprising overtime against the promoted team from Frankfurt last week. Only with a goal by Julian Melchiori did the Polar Bears manage to break free for a 5:4 victory. Nevertheless, the defending champions from Berlin will be the underdogs in Munich
The last time the Berliners were guests in the Olympia Eishalle in Munich, there was a 5:0 smashing victory for the Eisbären in the fourth final game of the DEL playoffs. If the capital club wins again, betting odds of 3.30 are paid out for a tip on the visitors in RB Munich vs. Eisbären Berlin.
This is the fourth time in a row that the Berliners have won at the Munich club. The last time the Bulls won a home game against the Berliners was in April 2021, and since then they have only suffered defeats.
RB Munich – Statistics & current form
Since their flawed start to the season against the Cologne Sharks, RB Munich have won each of their last three league encounters in the German top flight. A 5:2 win against the Adler from Mannheim was followed by a 6:0 smash against the Augsburg Panthers and a 4:1 win against the Iserlohn Roosters.
If the offensive team can keep up its recent form, a scoring feast for the Munich team cannot be ruled out in the endurance test against the DEL record champions from Berlin. Especially since RB Munich has won every home game so far this season.
If the record is extended at the Olympia Eishalle, betting odds of 1.95 for tip 1 are paid out for EHC RB Munich vs. Eisbären Berlin.
After squad upgrade: RB Munich the title favourites?
Since losing the DEL final against the Eisbären from Berlin, the Bullen have neatly increased the squad for the current season. The last time the EHC were champions was in 2018, and since then the Munich side have failed to secure the DEL title.
However, considering how strong EHC RB München started the 2021/22 season, a title win this season is obvious. The EHC was particularly convincing on the international stage and even secured a place in the round of 16 early on. Across all competitions, the Bullen have a goal ratio of 4.38 per game this season.
It is quite possible that this will be continued against the Eisbären. Austin Ortega is currently the best offensive player in the Bullen ranks with seven points (3 goals, 4 assists). Ortega recorded one of his seven scoring points in the comeback win against Iserlohn last weekend.
Eisbären Berlin – Statistics & current form
The Eisbären are currently on thin ice. Neither in the top flight nor in the DEL has the German ice hockey record champion been able to gain a foothold so far and has disappointed beyond measure. The capital club has lost four out of a total of seven matches, including two defeats in the German top flight.
It was only last weekend that the Berliners managed to break free. Head coach Serge Aubin’s team only won against the promoted Frankfurt team in extra time despite leading 4:0. In the meantime, the Frankfurt Lions were able to equalise and only narrowly missed a surprise.
After the energy-sapping match against Frankfurt, there is now an endurance test against RB Munich during the week. Considering how weak the Berlin defence has been in recent matches, the DEL record champions are already doomed to failure in Munich.
Do the Eisbären show a defiant reaction?
The only encouraging thing is the record in Munich. Since the 1:4 defeat in April 2021, the Eisbären have won each of the last four away games in Munich. Most recently, there was even a 5:0 win at the Bullen, with which the DEL record champions from Berlin also bagged their next championship win.
Whether the Berliners will be able to defend their title from last season remains to be seen after the mixed start to the season. The match in Munich will show the level of the current Eisbären squad.
Internally, Boychuk currently leads the scoring list for the Berliners. The Canadian has already recorded four assists and one goal after five appearances. Team-mate Noebels also has just as many scoring points to his name.
RB Munich – Eisbären Berlin Direct Comparison / H2H-Balance
For the 70th time the two DEL clubs meet. EHC München leads the direct comparison against the Berliners with a record of 41-28. On average, 5.77 goals per game have been scored in the 69 encounters between the two hockey clubs. The last time the Bullen and Eisbären met was in the final of the DEL playoffs in 2022.
The Berliners prevailed 3:1 in the best-of-five. The DEL record champions won two of the three away from home, including a 5:0 victory in the last meeting in Munich.
RB Munich – Eisbären Berlin Tip
The Berliners go into the showdown against EHC Munich as underdogs, as expected, after their false start to the 2022/23 season. Although the Eisbären have won the last four encounters in Munich, it is more than risky to place bets on a victory for the German ice hockey record champions this time.
After all, unlike the Eisbären, the Munich team has won the last three encounters in the DEL and, above all, flexed its offensive muscles. Before the DEL clash against the Eisbären, RB München beat the Iserlohn Roosters 4:1 last weekend. Until the last period, the Bulls were still trailing 0:1.
If RB München takes the momentum with them into the match against the Eisbären, the only question on Wednesday evening is how high the victory for the Bullen will be. Our tip for RB Munich vs. Eisbären Berlin is a home win for the Munich team at reasonable odds. We are betting six units for this one.
