Will the Pats remain scoreless against the Steelers?
Will it be historic on Thursday and will we see the first 0-0 draw since 1943? That’s the question we have to ask ourselves before our Steelers vs Patriots betting tip – even if the odds aren’t too high.
Because some offensive mistake will inevitably lead to points. However, the Pats have averaged just 4.0 points in their last three games, while the Steelers have averaged 12.0, so this game is unlikely to be suitable for fans of offensive football.
For bettors all the more so, as the bookmakers rarely go below the 30 total points mark. Even in this duel, the line is currently still at 30 – 30.5, with the favorites being the Steelers, who have at least been able to get some offense on the field recently.
So our prediction for Pittsburgh vs. New England is also a success for the team led by head coach Mike Tomlin in an absolute low-scoring game. The Pats, on the other hand, can already look ahead to the upcoming draft with one eye on
Kick-off of this unusual duel is at 02:15 on Friday night in Pittsburgh. The game can be watched live on DAZN.
Pittsburgh Steelers – Statistics & current form
The Steelers have been playing absolutely minimalist football for weeks, but are still currently in one of the Wild Card spots and are now considered the clear favorites against the Patriots. The postseason could therefore become a reality despite all the worries.
Another worry was added in the last game, as quarterback Kenny Pickett injured his ankle and will be out for several weeks. This means that backup quarterback Mitch Trubsiky, one of the league’s journeymen, will have to start on Thursday – with more or less success so far
How is Trubisky doing?
The good thing for Trubisky is that he no longer has to deal with Matt Canada as offensive coordinator. Without him, the offense actually works much better and looks more well-rounded.
In addition, Trubisky didn’t make a bad impression in his stint after Pickett’s injury. Eleven of 17 passes completed and one touchdown with no interceptions. Such statistics would probably be enough for a win against New England on Thursday.
Defense duel
First and foremost, however, this duel will come down to a defensive battle. Since neither offense has been very productive of late, big plays by the defenses could make the difference. Over the course of the season, the Steelers have allowed 2.1 fewer points than the Patriots.
Better offense, defense at least on par – there is a lot to be said for Pittsburgh in this duel, which makes the odds on a Steelers win + under points our favorite betting option for Steelers vs. Pats.
Key Players:
- QB: Mitch Trubisky
- RB: Najee Harris
- WR: George Pickens
- TE: Pat Freiermuth
- K: Chris Boswell
New England Patriots – Statistics & current form
The Patriots are probably looking forward to the end of the season more than any other team. So do their fans, because what they saw in last Sunday’s 6-0 loss to the Chargers was anything but attractive football.
If it were at least successful, but the Patriots are far from that at the moment. They became the first team in NFL history to hold their opponents to 10 or fewer points in three consecutive games and still lose all of them
Where are points supposed to come from?
New England averaged 4.0 points in their last three games. That’s last place in the league by a wide margin. Over the course of the season, it is also only 12.3 own points – also last place in the NFL.
It doesn’t seem to make any difference whether Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe starts at the quarterback position. Both have less self-confidence than a shy boy in the playground standing in front of the love of his life.
Zappe last started against the Chargers and although he didn’t throw a single interception, the Pats didn’t even come close to scoring a touchdown. He finished with 109 passing yards.
Has Belichick given up yet?
The amazing thing is that this is all happening under head coach Bill Belichick, who has always been known for making the best out of difficult circumstances. But when we watch him, he doesn’t seem like he has the fire to do it this season.
Everyone in New England knows that Belichick will be gone after this season and that somehow inhibits everyone. Thus, there is no improvement in sight for Thursday and for Pittsburgh against New England a bet on the Steelers is clearly the more promising option.
Key Players:
- QB: Bailey Zappe
- RB: Rhamondre Stevenson
- WR: JuJu Smith-Schuster
- TE: Hunter Henry
- K: Chad Ryland
Pittsburgh Steelers – New England Patriots head-to-head / H2H record
When and how these two teams last met is irrelevant for the upcoming game. Although the last time they met in 2022, the quarterbacks were Mac Jones and Mitch Trubisky.
However, all other circumstances have changed fundamentally. Above all, Belichick’s lack of motivation and the lack of self-confidence on both sides should be mentioned here. We therefore do not expect many points on Thursday either.
With 30.0 points still currently set, the under odds for Pittsburgh vs. New England are also an excellent solo option. In combination with a Steelers win, the value can even be increased quite nicely
Pittsburgh Steelers – New England Patriots betting tip
Not against misery one could think when looking at this duel, whereby the Steelers’ misery is currently only due to the loss of Pickett. In all other respects, they are still on target, at least in terms of the standings and results.
This also makes them the clear favorites for the Thursday Night Game, which is why a bet on Pittsburgh + Under 35.5 is our clear betting recommendation No.1 for Steelers vs. Pats. However, picks on pure under points are also very possible here.
We do not have an alternative bet on Player Bets in this game, as it is questionable whether there will be any touchdowns at all. Under bets on touchdowns would therefore also be an option that could actually be considered for tips.
