Do the Egales make the No.1 seed?
Minshew Mania is already over again and now it’s up to Jalen Hurts to fix it. After two losses in a row, Philly has exactly one game left to clinch the No.1 seed in the NFC – Sunday at Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants – Tip incoming.
It therefore doesn’t really take any clairvoyant abilities to declare the Eagles as the house favourites for this game. Especially since there is not much at stake for New York after their early playoff qualification in the previous week.
With that, the Giants are expected to rest some of their injury-prone players like Saquon Barkley. The Eagles, on the other hand, will not allow themselves to do that and will even send Jalen Hurts back onto the field after his shoulder problems. Safe bet.
Of course, that makes betting on this game difficult in that Philly is seen ahead by a good 14 points – huge favourite status. For Eagles vs. Giants, however, our prediction is also a very clear win for the home team, who will finally claw their way to the No.1 seed.
Kickoff of the NFC East duel is Sunday night at 10:25 pm in Philadelphia. The game can be watched live on ENDZN on DAZN.
Philadelphia Eagles – Statistics & current form
The Eagles have brought it on themselves that they now have to step it up on NFL Game Day 18 after all and can’t put their feet up already. The No. 1 seed in the NFC, long considered safe, is suddenly in jeopardy again.
Luckily for them, though, their upcoming opponents from New York wrapped up their playoff qualification last Sunday, so a much less aggressive Giants team should be expected – despite the division rivalry.
How fit is Hurts really?
Rumours have been swirling about the health of Jalen Hurts for the past two weeks. At first it was said that he would definitely only miss one game, but now it has already been two games and it is still not 100% sure whether he will be involved on Sunday.
However, all signs point to it, especially because of the importance of the match. Because it makes a huge difference for several reasons whether you go into the postseason at No.1 or No.5 seed.
If Hurts plays, the Eagles will have their strongest weapon back on Sunday. 13 rushing touchdowns in 14 games, add 22 through the air and all that with only five interceptions. Very strong numbers that also still keep him in the MVP conversation.
Early start would be beneficial
If there is one thing the Eagles can do this season, it is start a game well. In 14 of their 16 games this season, they’ve been ahead at halftime, sometimes quite significantly. The game against New Orleans was a real exception.
With Hurts, we trust Philly to do the same on Sunday, which is why 1/1 bets are a first alternative – albeit with fairly low value. So with this favourite status, it is difficult to generate high value, which is why we have to get creative.
For example, with Philadelphia vs. New York, both the forecast on a rushing TD by Jalen Hurts and over 1 field goal by the Giants are alternatives. Since they will have trouble getting into Philadelphia’s end zone, their field goal attempts could pile up.
Key Players:
QB: Jalen Hurts
RB: Miles Sanders
WR: A.J. Brown
TE: Grant Calcaterra
K: Jake Elliott
New York Giants – Statistics & current form
The Giants are back in the playoffs. For the first time in six years, postseason football is back in the Big Apple, as both the Giants and Jets have been rather poor of late. Thanks to Head Coach Brian Daboll, however, that will change in the coming week.
The 47-year-old is considered the main man responsible for the upswing, as there have been few changes in the squad compared to the previous season. Before the play-offs, however, they still have to play the Philadelphia Eagles, who are a preseason programme.
Giants outclassed in all stats
However, since the Eagles will be fielding almost their entire squad, the chances of a final victory are very slim. For this reason, we strongly expect New York to spare not one, but several starters.
That could lead to a fairly clear-cut affair, which it probably would have. After all, the Giants lost the first duel six weeks ago at home with 22:48. It should not be quite as clear-cut on Sunday, as the Eagles will also take a few players (including Hurts) out with a two-score lead.
Overall, the Giants are inferior to Philly in all respects, even in their best line-up. 21.8 to 28.4 points scored, 21.8 to 20.5 points conceded, +2 to +9 in turnover ratio, and don’t even get us started on their record (9-6-1 to 13-3).
Field goals as a means for points?
With a B-Offense it could be very difficult to get points on Sunday, which is why we expect some field goal attempts from Graham Gano. He stands at a strong 90.3% success rate this season and over 50 yards on 8/9 successful attempts.
Thus, he is considered one of the strongest kickers in the league, which increases the chances that the Giants will trust him in this game. Therefore, in Eagles vs Giants, odds on over 1 field goal by Gano should be top priority for betting. Because field goal attempts don’t even require that many total yards of offense.
Key Players:
QB: Daniel Jones
RB: Saquon Barkley
WR: Kenny Golladay
TE: Daniel Bellinger
K: Graham Gano
Philadelphia Eagles – New York Giants Direct comparison / H2H balance
In the NFC, the balance of power has been clear in recent years. The Cowboys and the Eagles were the bosses and the Giants and the Commanders ended up behind. This is also shown by the direct duels within the division, which are mercilessly dictated by these two teams.
In Eagles vs. Giants, Philadelphia is 8:2 in the last ten duels, and even 15:5 over the last 20 duels. Philly won the already mentioned last meeting in the Big Apple by a fabulous 48:22 points.
This shows that Philly would be favourites even under normal circumstances. With the resting of some players on the Giants’ side, this status increases significantly. Thus, for Philadelphia vs. New York, the odds on Philly -14 are the magic limit that is just acceptable for betting.
Philadelphia Eagles – New York Giants Tip
For the Eagles it’s still about something, for the Giants not necessarily anymore. That means it could become clear. But since Philly will also be resting its top stars at a certain point, it’s hard to recommend a handicap bet.
Instead, we see a bet on over 1 field goal by the Giants as the most promising betting option for Eagles against Giants. Especially towards the end of the game New York could still get some scoring opportunities – mostly through field goals.
We have recommended betting on a rushing touchdown by Jalen Hurts several times this season and we have rarely been disappointed. With 13 TDs already, he leads the quarterbacks by a wide margin. If he does start, then this bet is another very good betting option.
