Will the Eagles continue their upswing against the Jags?
Upswing against downturn is the name of the game on Sunday in our Eagles vs. Jaguars tip for NFL Game Day 9. While the Eagles have now won three games in a row, the Jaguars are on the ropes with a 2-6 record.
Another loss against Philly and Jacksonville will probably mean that the team’s focus will already be on the upcoming season. It’s unfortunate for them that Christian Kirk, of all people, was seriously injured before the trade deadline. They definitely would have wanted to trade him away.
But that alone shows that the Jaguars are no longer fully focused on this season, which will also be evident in the game against the Eagles. Kirk is likely to be missing and it is also not yet 100% certain whether Travis Etienne will play.
So for the Eagles’ match against the Jaguars, our prediction is a clear home win for the Eagles, who will stay in the mix for the top spot in the NFC East. We still see them as the top favorites for the division win due to their fairly easy schedule.
Kickoff of this uneven duel is on Sunday at 10:05 p.m. in Philadelphia. The game can be followed live in the REDZN on DAZN.
Philadelphia Eagles – Statistics & current form
The Eagles are on a winning streak and have won all three of their games after the bye week. It has to be said, however, that their opponents, the Browns, the Giants and the Bengals, were not the strongest.
But the clear victory against Cincinnati in particular should give all fans in Philadelphia encouragement. Jalen Hurts looks clearly improved and the same applies to their defense, which was still a weak point at the beginning of the season. This is how an attack on the NFC East lead can be launched.
Philly as division favorite
Since they also have both games against the currently leading Commanders, we see the Eagles as the big favorites for the division title. Odds of up to 1.73 on Philly offer us a good chance of top value at this point in time, which is likely to have decreased after this game.
But back to Sunday’s game. We expect another dominant performance from the men of head coach Nick Sirianni, who should also cement his position even further as a result. Three days ago, he was considered one of the most endangered coaches in the NFL.
Jalen Hurts in particular could have a field day on Sunday with this matchup. At 271.1 yards per game, the Jags allow the second-most yards through the air. These are the best conditions for a great day from him and his two receivers, A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith.
So the odds for a touchdown by Brown are definitely playable in the Eagles vs. Jaguars game, but even more so are any bets on the Eagles. This applies to halftime/final score, Eagles -7.5 or our favorite Eagles + over 2.5 field goals.
With Jake Elliott, the Eagles have a strong kicker on the field. But even more reliable this season is opposite Cam Little. The Jags will probably have to rely on him more in this game against the strong Eagles defense.
Key Players:
- QB: Jalen Hurts
- RB: Saquon Barkley
- WR: A.J. Brown
- TE: Dallas Goeddert
- K: Jake Elliott
Jacksonville Jaguars – statistics & current form
The Jaguars are considered an endangered species this season – at least as far as the playoffs are concerned. That’s because their chances of making it are now almost zero. Even a win against the Eagles would only slightly change that.
As is so often the case in the NFL, a defeat would therefore be the better option for Jacksonville in the long run, so as not to ruin the draft pick. So the conditions for Sunday are clear and not even the most die-hard optimists believe in a Jags victory.
Constance Fehlanzeige
In Jacksonville, they still had a little hope after the London game against the Pats, but this was immediately dashed against the Packers. They didn’t go down as completely as they did against the Bills and the Bears this season, but it still wasn’t good.
But what is the biggest problem with the Jags? The eye test also doesn’t give Trevor Lawrence the best report card, even though his statistics aren’t that bad. But especially in the important situations, he has rarely been on the scene this year.
Against Green Bay, for example, the Jaguars only completed one of nine attempts to gain a new first down. This makes it difficult to win games. They also rank only 17th in red zone efficiency at 55.17%.
Defense the biggest weakness
Nevertheless, the Jaguars’ biggest weakness is definitely their defense. At 28.0 points per game, only the indisposed Cowboys and the out-of-form Panthers are conceding more. The Eagles, who are playing well, should be able to take advantage of that.
We expect Philly to score at least 28 points again, which represents another tip for Philadelphia against Jacksonville that we can suggest. For over 27.5 Eagles points, we get strong odds of up to 1.95 (Bet-at-home).
Key Players:
- QB: Trevor Lawrence
- RB: Tank Bigsby
- WR: Brian Thomas Jr.
- TE: Evan Engram
- K: Cam Little
Philadelphia Eagles – Jacksonville Jaguars Direct comparison / H2H record
Another point in favor of the Eagles in this matchup is the direct comparison. The last four head-to-head duels were all won by the Eagles, meaning the Jags have not been able to beat Philly since 2006.
However, it is difficult to predict whether this game will be over/under, mainly because of the Jaguars. It is doubtful that they will reach the 20-point mark. The Eagles, on the other hand, could easily score over 30 points again.
So our top betting option for Eagles vs. Jags remains Philly + Over 2.5 field goals. Because an Eagles win seems very likely to us and over 2.5 field goals is also a high-percentage choice with these two kickers.
Philadelphia Eagles – Jacksonville Jaguars betting tip
There are several options for the Eagles that we can put on the slip of paper here. However, to get a really strong value, we almost have to give them a double-digit handicap, where it then becomes critical.
Thus, for Eagles against Jaguars, our favorite bet in this matchup is Philadelphia + Over 2.5 field goals. We have already explained the reasons for this above and we would not be surprised if we reached the field goals after three quarters.
We have just put Devonta Smith and A.J. Brown into play for a player bet. Brown is the slightly more likely option, but Smith is the one with the significantly higher value. Both tips are playable, as both could easily score.
