Embiid with the next monster game?
The Philadelphia 76ers host the Los Angeles Clippers at the Wells Fargo Center on 22/01/2022 starting at 01:00. The home side haven’t lost a home game to the Californians in just under five years and instead have won five straight!
Philadelphia 76ers – Statistics & current form
The 76ers have been waiting for their next NBA title for 29 years now, and the loss of Ben Simmons before the season has of course abruptly diminished their Contender status. Nevertheless, Philadelphia is once again one of the top teams in the East and this is mainly due to Joel Embiid, who is once again in top form.
With his consistently good performances, the centre from Cameroon has long been in the draw again for the annual exciting question: “Who will be the next MVP?” With an average of 28 points per game, Embiid ranks fourth in the NBA’s scoring rankings and the 27-year-old also ranks in the top ten in rebounds.
In the last game against Orlando, Embiid even set his personal record with a whopping 50 points. Thanks to this great performance, the centre is now one of only three players in the history of the Sixers who has delivered games with at least 50 points several times. Before him, only the two legends Allen Iverson and Wilt Chamberlain achieved this feat.
LA Clippers – Statistics & current form
For the Clippers, as in the case of their upcoming opponents, the prospects for the title had also dimmed considerably right at the start of the season, as Kawhi Leonard, the franchise player, was out due to injury and has not been able to play a single game so far.
Even with an optimistic prognosis, his comeback would not be possible until the playoffs at the earliest. Most recently, his congenial teammate Paul George has been missing, which is why LA has only won four of the past ten league games.
One positive bright spot, however, is Amir Coffey: The shooting guard is in his third season in the NBA and is getting more and more playing time due to the tense personnel situation at the Clippers.
Coffey knows how to use this time efficiently: The 24-year-old is averaging 12.6 points per game in the current month and is thus clearly above his seasonal value of seven points. In particular, his throws from outside are currently sitting as evidenced by an impressive 45.1 percent yield for attempts from downtown in January.
Philadelphia 76ers – LA Clippers Tip
For the showdown between the Philadelphia 76ers and LA Clippers, the tip includes at least 30 points by Joel Embiid on the side of head coach Doc Rivers’ troops. The centre is currently delivering galas in a row, as he did in the last game against Orlando with 50 points.
In the race for the MVP title, the “Big Man” of the three-time champions has long since placed himself very prominently. Embiid also failed to reach the selected minimum of 30 points in only two of the last 15 games!
