Who will win the New York Battle of the Preseason?
NFL – here we go again, even if it’s only the preseason for now. But there’s at least the Big Apple Derby and our New York Jets vs. New York Giants tip as a highlight on the last preseason matchday
The Jets are still unbeaten in the preseason so far and that without their top stars Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall. These top players of the Jets will not be on the field on the last day of the preseason.
The Giants, on the other hand, are trying to give Daniel Jones as much playing time as possible after his injury, partly to familiarize him with playing with rookie Malik Nabers. One reason why our prediction for Jets vs. Giants is a win for the Giants
Kickoff of this New York Battles is on Sunday night at 01:30 in New York. The game can be watched live with the NFL Game Pass.
New York Jets – Statistics & current form
The New York Jets are playing a convincing preseason so far, at least if we go by the results. 20:17 against the Commanders, 15:12 against the Panthers. That means 2-0 wins, but even the names of the opponents make it clear that this is not the whole truth.
The Jets are more interested in giving their second guard plenty of minutes, distributing their defensive snaps properly and seeing which backups can earn more playing time this season. So far, only Braelon Allen has managed to do that
Allen with a strong start
Breece Hall’s backup running back averaged a sensational 9.0 yards per run in the first game. In the second game, this figure dropped to 3.4, but he showed that he will certainly be able to take a few snaps off Breece Hall in the regular season.
Otherwise, the first preseason games were not very exciting. Since the Jets will now also be without all their star players in the Big Apple duel, we see them as the clear underdogs against the Giants. What’s more, they shouldn’t be able to score 20 points with this second guard of the offense
Underdogs in the preseason always a good bet
On the third day of the preseason, less than 50% of all games failed to break the 30-point mark, even though some teams had a lot of starters. The games of the Jets and the Giants, on the other hand, were characterized more by the defenses.
Although the oddsmakers are also setting the odds quite low at 31.5, we still see the odds of under 31.5 total points for Jets vs. Giants as playable, as we expect another defensive duel – especially since nobody wants to get injured on the last preseason game day.
Key Players:
- QB: Adrian Martinez
- RB: Braelon Allen
- WR: Lance McCutcheon
- TE: Kenny Yeboah
- K: Austin Seibert
New York Giants – Statistics & current form
The New York Giants are facing a tricky season. Quarterback Daniel Jones has just returned from a serious injury and star running back Saquon Barkley has been traded to Philadelphia.
They did pick one of the top wide receivers in the draft in Malik Nabers, but it is doubtful whether that will be enough offensively. This makes the preseason all the more important for the Giants, where they are already giving both Jones and Nabers plenty of playing time so that they can settle in.
Jones and Nabers need to click
This was only partially successful in the second preseason game against the Texans. Nabers caught four balls for a total of 54 yards, but Jones also threw two interceptions. So there is still a long way to go, especially for Jones, to get back to his old level.
The game against the Jets will therefore be another important test. We are sure that the Giants will once again line up with several top players (Jones, Nabers, Slayton, Singletary) and should therefore also be the clear favorites on paper.
Tips on Giants clearly recommended
Although we see the Jets clearly ahead of the Giants in the regular season, the picture is reversed in the preseason. If Jones, Nabers and Co. were to lose to the Jets’ second guard, that would be a pretty poor showing for the entire franchise.
We therefore see a bet on the New York Giants -2.5 as a good betting option for Jets vs Giants. However, we wouldn’t give them much more of a handicap, as overall scores are not expected to be too high in the preseason.
Key Players:
- QB: Daniel Jones
- RB: Devin Singletary
- WR: Darius Slayton
- WR: Malik Nabers
- K: Graham Gano
New York Jets – New York Giants head-to-head comparison / H2H record
We don’t need to look at the direct comparisons of the regular season here, as the preseason is a completely different matter. However, both teams have done quite well so far, with the Jets even winning both of their preseason games.
However, this was against the weak teams from Washington and Carolina, whereas the Giants’ opponents were the Lions and the Texans. Their performances should therefore be rated a little higher, which makes us lean towards the Giants again.
The odds on the away team in Jets vs. Giants are slightly better than on the Jets. A combination with under points would also be conceivable in this matchup
New York Jets – New York Giants Tip
Our Jets vs. Giants prediction is based on the fact that the Jets are still resting their stars, whereas the Giants will already have some of them on the artificial turf. Thus, the Giants are also considered the clear favorites. For New York Jets vs New York Giants a bet on Giants -2.5 is our number 1 betting option
Alternatively, betting on under points is an option. Combined, the two New York teams are averaging just 29.5 points in the preseason, so under 31.5 is a number that is likely to be undercut.
