Will the Patriots suffer their fourth defeat in a row?
On matchday 12 of the NFL, the New York Giants and the New England Patriots will face off. At the same time, it is also a match-up between two teams that have disappointed across the board this season and therefore have little chance of making the playoffs. In our opinion, it is therefore not entirely understandable that the bookmakers’ odds between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots clearly favor a win for the visiting team.
We base this assessment on current form, among other things, because while the home side won against the Washington Commanders last weekend, the visitors suffered their third defeat in a row against the Indianapolis Colts. In addition, Bill Belichick’s team have only won two games this season. We therefore believe that the odds between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots should favor a win for the hosts
We recommend betting on a touchdown from Saquon Barkley between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. The home side’s running back is currently the only player in Brian Daboll’s squad to score more than one touchdown this season. In the win against the Commanders, the superstar even made two appearances in the end zone and was one of the match winners.
Kickoff for this game is Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. The game can be watched live and in full on DAZN.
New York Giants – Statistics & current form
New York have already played eleven games this season and have only won three of them. With this meagre haul, Brian Daboll’s team are currently in last place in the NFC East and therefore have little chance of reaching the NFL play-offs.
Even if the Giants were to win their remaining six games, the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys would have to lose almost all of their matches for the home side to lead their division at the end of the regular season. In addition, the hosts will not be able to qualify based on the number of wins, as the gap is already too large.
First win of the career
Tommy DeVito celebrated his first career NFL victory last weekend. The Giants quarterback had an outstanding game, collecting 246 passing yards and throwing three touchdown passes. The rookie also had a 69% throwing percentage, remained without an interception and was therefore very consistent. Due to the injuries to Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor, the youngster has the chance to recommend himself for further tasks.
The bright spot in the O-line
Saquon Barkley is by far the best player in the Giants’ offense. The running back has already amassed 651 rushing yards this season, putting him ninth in the league. However, the positioning is actually somewhat deceptive, as the Giants’ superstar has already missed three games due to injury and could therefore be ranked much higher. What’s more, he has already made five appearances in the end zone, making him his team’s top scorer
Lack of passing lanes
Darius Slayton is the best receiver in the home side’s ranks and currently has 419 receiving yards. In a league-wide comparison, however, this is only enough for 67th place and is therefore not particularly strong. It is therefore no wonder that the hosts have the weakest passing offense in the NFL. The New York Giants would therefore be well advised to look around for a pass receiver or two in the offseason
Defensively too vulnerable
The Giants not only have the weakest offense in the National Football League, but are also one of the weakest teams in the league on defense. On average, Brian Daboll’s team concedes 25.9 points, while only scoring 13.5 on average. The discrepancy is of course far too high and also explains the weak season so far.
Key players for the New York Giants:
- QB: Tommy DeVito
- RB: Saquon Barkley
- WR: Darius Slayton
- LB: Micah McFadden
- K: Randy Bullock
New England Patriots – stats & current form
New England are one of the weakest teams in the NFL this season, winning just two of their ten games. The Carolina Panthers are the only team to have won fewer games this season. Their chances of reaching the playoffs are therefore close to zero.
The gap between them and the current leaders of the AFC East is already five wins and can therefore no longer be closed. It would therefore be no surprise if the Patriots were to “tank” in the coming weeks in order to secure a good pick in the upcoming draft
Who will start against the Giants?
Mac Jones has had a poor season so far and has already thrown ten interceptions. In contrast, he has only ten touchdown passes and 2,031 passing yards. Bill Belichick is therefore toying with the idea of benching the starting quarterback and giving youngster Bailey Zappe another chance. The rookie backup already had the chance to lead the Patriots onto the field in four games during the pre-season and made a decent impression
Transfer flop
Ezekiel Elliott came over from the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason and was supposed to be the starting running back. After ten games, however, the transfer has proven to be a real flop. So far, the running back has not come close to his good performances from the previous season, collecting just 331 rushing yards and running into the end zone only twice. In the past season, the new signing scored twelve touchdowns and was therefore much more effective
Passing game hardly exists
The offense’s problems don’t stop with the run game, however, but also continue in the passing game. With an average of 199.6 passing yards per game, the Patriots are also one of the weaker teams in the National Football League in this category. Kendrick Bourne is the only receiver who has stood out positively so far. In the game against the Miami Dolphins, however, he suffered a torn cruciate ligament and will not be able to play again this season
Weak D-Line
The Patriots are allowing an average of 23.8 points per game, putting them at the back of the NFL’s midfield. Nevertheless, not everything is bad in New England’s game, as the visiting team’s defense is very good against the run and holds the opponents to 97.7 rushing yards per game. Overall, however, the visitors are still too vulnerable.
Key players for the New England Patriots:
- QB: Bailey Zappe
- RB: Rhamondre Stevenson
- TE: Hunter Henry
- DB: Kyle Dugger
- K: Chad Ryland
New York Giants – New England Patriots head-to-head comparison / H2H record
The direct comparison of the two teams goes somewhat surprisingly to the home team. The Giants have won 22 duels against the Patriots, while the visitors currently have 15 wins. The last time the two teams met in a competitive match was in 2019, almost four years ago. Back then, New England won with a commanding 35:14. However, a similar result, even by that margin, cannot be expected this Sunday. That’s why our prediction between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots is more in the direction of a points bet
New York Giants – New England Patriots betting tip
The Giants have improved in recent weeks, winning two of their last six games and losing only twice by a clear margin. What’s more, the home side not only have their own fans behind them, but also a clear win against the Commanders. Things are looking much worse for the visitors, as Bill Belichick’s team have only won one of their last seven games and are now very likely to change their quarterback. We therefore play the betting tip between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots on a win for the home team with a handicap of +6.5 points.
Alternatively, we recommend the odds for under 36.5 points in the game between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. The home side has the weakest offense in the league with 13.5 points per game and has only scored more than 17 points twice. The Patriots don’t look much different, only the average is slightly higher
