Can the Giants make the big leap towards the playoffs?
This coming Sunday, October 16, 2022, football will be played in New York. At 7pm, the game between the New York Giants and the Baltimore Ravens will kick off at MetLife Stadium. Thus, two teams meet that are in great shape. Especially the performance of the New York Giants has been very surprising so far. Hardly any experts had the team around Daniel Jones on their radar. At the moment, even the playoffs seem possible. In the game between the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens, the betting odds on a home win are nevertheless very high.
This is primarily because the bookmakers expect a collapse of the hosts sooner or later. After the extremely weak preseason, this is also understandable, as the Giants won only four games in the 2021/22 season. The team now has four wins after only five matchdays, despite the lack of big transfers. It remains to be seen whether Coach Judge’s team can maintain this level over the next few weeks.
Both teams are in good form and overall we can expect an even game. New York currently acts a tad better and plays at home, while the Ravens have more individual class. It is therefore hard to imagine that there will be few points in this duel. Especially the running game of both teams has a lot of power. In the game between the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens, betting on at least fifteen points from both franchises therefore seems very tempting.
New York Giants – Statistics & Current Form
The New York Giants are in fourth place in the National Football Conference after five days of play, surprising just about every expert. The Giants’ only loss came on the third day of play against the Dallas Cowboys. There, especially the offence did not find its way into the game at all and could only score one touchdown. Joe Judge’s team won the remaining four games, but most of them by very narrow margins. Among the opponents defeated were stronger teams such as the Titans or the Packers. In the game between the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens, the odds on the host nevertheless seem rather risky.
Quarterback Daniel Jones with room to improve
The New York Giants quarterback is not playing a good season so far, statistically speaking, and yet his team has won four of five games. With only 848 yards after five games, he made less room than Flacco and Winston, who both only played three games. And even with his three touchdowns he is one of the weakest players at this position. One of the few stats that distinguishes his game so far are the interceptions thrown. In this category Jones is on a par with Mahomes, Herbert and Hurts.
The running game as a weapon
The New York Giants average 179.0 yards per game through the running game alone. This makes the team tops and only the Cleveland Browns are better in this category. This is primarily due to running back Saquon Barkley, who has already rushed for 533 yards. Only Nick Chubb of the Cleveland Browns has more yards. Therefore, Barkley, at 25 years old, is already one of the best players at his position. The Giants have major problems in the passing game, as the team has the second weakest passing offense in the NFL with only 154.2 yards per game.
Strengths vs. the passing game
The host allows just 18.6 points per game, ranking among the NFL’s better defenses. Only eight teams have allowed fewer points than the Giants. This is mainly due to the strong defence against the passing game, as NY only allows an average of 194.4 passing yards to the opponent. Against the run game, however, Joe Judge’s team has some problems and concedes an average of 131.6 rushing yards per game. Overall, however, the defence stands up well and only allowed more than twenty points twice.
Key players of the New York Giants:

Baltimore Ravens – Statistics & Current Form
The Baltimore Ravens are in third place in the American Football Conference. With three wins from five games, the start to the new season has been very decent. The two losses against the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills can be taken, because these two teams are two very strong teams in the NFL. The Ravens had to win against the New York Jets and then won two important duels with New England and Cincinnati. So Baltimore is on a very good way towards the playoffs.
Lamar Jackson in double role
The Baltimore Ravens quarterback is no ordinary type of player at his position. He is a running back as well as a quarterback in one position and even ranks tenth in rushing yards. Jackson already covered 374 yards and also threw for 1067 yards. That makes him a real machine, although this type of play is very risky for him. He was already out injured last season – of course he always puts himself at risk of injury with his runs. With fourteen touchdowns already, that probably won’t matter much to him, as that number puts him on par with Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes.
One of the best tight ends in the league
The Ravens are fortunate to have one of the best TEs in the NFL on their roster in Mark Andrews. With already 349 receiving yards he is currently the best player at his position and even ahead of Travis Kelce. The Kansas City tight end, however, has already collected significantly more touchdowns. Nevertheless, Andrews is an outstanding player with four TDs. For the Baltimore Ravens, he is one of the key players and is one of the most important kick-off stations for Jackson.
The offense rolled, the defense slept
Baltimore’s defense is having some problems this season. On average, the Ravens are conceding 23.4 points and that is rather mediocre in the National Football League. Especially against the passing game, the guest defends inadequately. On average, the Ravens allow 290.2 passing yards per game and are thus the worst team in pass defence. However, since the Giants operate more through the running game, this gives the Ravens a slight advantage. With 108 rushing yards per game, Baltimore usually has the opposing running game pretty well under control.
Key players for the Baltimore Ravens:
QB: Lamar Jackson – WR: Devin Duvernay – TE: Mark Andrews – LB: Patrick Queen – K: Justin Tucker
New York Giants – Baltimore Ravens Head-to-head / H2H Balance
The head-to-head comparison between the New York Giants and the Baltimore Ravens goes to the visitors. The two teams have only met nineteen times and the host has only won seven of those games. In the matchup between the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens, the odds therefore also point to the Ravens winning the next game. However, the last game in New York was won by the Giants, even though it was six years ago. Due to the current form of the hosts, the underdog still seems to have a realistic chance of winning.
New York Giants – Baltimore Ravens Tip
The forecast for the game between the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens is for a battle game with a close outcome. The momentum is with the hosts, the home advantage will also affect the game. Baltimore is certainly a bit better, but a class difference is not to be expected. With New York performing well on defence in particular, it’s hard to imagine Joe Judge’s team going down against the Ravens.
In the game between the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens, the tip is therefore victory by a handicap of +7.5 for the New York Giants.
