Will the Wizards’ losing streak continue?
With Memphis Grizzlies vs Washington Wizards, a West-East duel takes place on 30/01/2022 from 02:00. The home side are in a very good third place in the Western Conference, while the visitors are only eleventh in the East.
Memphis Grizzlies – Statistics & current form
The basketball players from the “Bluff City” have lost some of their consistency recently: three losses from the past seven league games. Although Ja Morant continues to perform very well and is undoubtedly in the extended circle for the award of the MVP title, the rest of the Grizzlies have declined.
In addition, the two Canadians Dillon Brooks and Brandon Clarke, two important components of Head Coach Taylor Jenkins’ team, are missing. The team is obviously weakened by the absences and thus a long way away from the temporary high when they won eleven games in a row between the end of December and mid-January.
However, Morant’s efficiency this season can be seen in his recent inclusion in the West’s starting five for the upcoming All-Star Game. Morant shares that honour with stars like reigning MVP Nikola Jokic or the best three-point shooter in NBA history in the person of Stephen Curry.
Washington Wizards – Statistics & current form
Washington have been a welcome visitor of late given their meagre four wins from their last twelve visiting games, especially with half of those victories coming at lightweights like second-to-last Detroit and last-place Orlando in the East. One factor in the mediocre output this season has been the performance of Bradley Beal.
Last year’s All-Star is nearly eight points below his season scoring average from last year and also below his totals from the two previous seasons.
On the other hand, Kyle Kuzma continues to be a positive bright spot. The addition from the Lakers consistently delivers high scoring and rebounding. As a result, the forward now has 19 double-doubles after 45 appearances.
Memphis Grizzlies – Washington Wizards Tip
The home side defeated Utah last night, a direct rival in the top third of the Western Conference standings. However, the basketball players from the Mormon state arrived in a decimated form and recently the Grizzlies, who also have to deal with personnel losses, looked a little less strong than before.
For the clash between Memphis and Washington, the tip nevertheless aims for a home win with at least a six-point difference. The Grizzlies have one of the league’s top players in Ja Morant, who continues to perform consistently, and the visitors are still much less convincing at the moment.
The Grizzlies have been on a four-game losing streak, so while it’s not a blowout for Washington, especially since the hosts are back-to-back and thus more tired, another loss by a margin of more than one possession can still be expected for head coach Wes Unseld Jr.’s squad.
