Can the Colts take revenge for the defeat a few weeks ago?
In week six, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Indianapolis Colts will clash in the National Football League. In advance, the roles seem to be quite clearly distributed, because while the guests have to do without their starting quarterback Anthony Richardson, the host can draw from the full and should therefore be superior in terms of play. For this reason, the bookmakers’ betting odds between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts are clearly in favor of a win for the home side.
Indianapolis, however, should not be underestimated, because after all, the team of Shane Steichen already won three games. In addition, the team was able to compensate for Richardson’s short-term absence last weekend and ended up winning 23-16 against the Tennessee Titans. For this reason, between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts, the odds offered by bettors are a bit too far apart in our estimation.
We recommend betting on a Zack Moss touchdown between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts. Due to the injury of quarterback Anthony Richardson, the running game of the visiting team is severely limited. The running back of the guests is therefore particularly challenged and will probably get the ball even more often than already. With four touchdowns in the first five games, he could also prove his efficiency already. The best odds for this bet can be found at Bet365.
Kickoff of this AFC match is on Sunday at 19:00 clock at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville. The match can be watched live and in full on DAZN.
Jacksonville Jaguars – stats & current form
Jacksonville stands at three wins after five games, leading the AFC South and well on their way towards the playoffs for now. However, in a division with the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans, the Jaguars were favored before the season even began.
Last weekend, the home side even managed to beat the Buffalo Bills, setting a tone after two losses. One of the two failures came against the Kansas City Chiefs and was therefore predictable.
Next Step
Trevor Lawrence has had a very solid start to the season, already amassing 1258 yards. In addition, the Jags’ quarterback has a good passing rate of 67.2%, making him very reliable. Now, however, it’s time to take the next step and step it up a notch in his third season. With just five touchdown passes, the home side’s number 16 still has a lot of room to improve and definitely needs to work on his efficiency.
Top scorer of the Jags
Travis Etienne is the man for the important moments and the Jaguars’ top scorer with three touchdowns. The Jacksonville running back has also amassed 396 rushing yards, which ranks fifth league-wide. In the entire preseason, the home team’s number one rusher was held to just five runs into the end zone and ran for an average of 13 yards less per game. In his second NFL year, he has improved significantly and seems to have really arrived in the National Football League.
Strong passing game
The Jaguars’ O-line is doing a good job this season, shining especially in the passing game. Jacksonville averages 239 passing yards, which ranks eleventh in the National Football League. Two players stand out in particular, Calvin Ridley and Christian Kirk. The home side’s two pass receivers combined for 668 yards and three touchdowns. Since the Colts’ defense is quite susceptible against the passing game, the two receivers could become the key players in this game.
Solid Defense
Through the first five games of the new season, the Jaguars’ D-line has allowed an average of just 20.4 points, which is very respectable. Still, Jacksonville’s defense has one clear weakness and that is the opposing passing game. On the other hand, Urban Meyer’s men are very good against the run and can compensate for their deficit. In addition, it plays into the host’s cards that the Colts are much better in the running game than in the passing game and thus will rarely play to their strengths.
Key players for the Jacksonville Jaguars:
- QB: Trevor Lawrence
- RB: Travis Etienne
- WR: Christian Kirk
- WR: Calvin Ridley
- K: Brandon McManus
Indianapolis Colts – stats & current form
Indianapolis has been one of the surprises of the NFL at the beginning of the season. Shane Steichen’s team picked up three wins from their first five games, putting them in second place in the AFC South. Currently, the Colts seem to be the strongest pursuer of the favorite.
The good start could not have been predicted after a weak preseason. With a win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the visiting team could equal their record of four wins last year. If the guests are actually successful, even participation in the playoffs would no longer be a pipe dream.
worries about Richardson
Anthony Richardson suffered a serious shoulder injury last weekend and is expected to miss four to eight weeks. Currently, it is still being investigated whether surgery is necessary or a longer break will suffice. Against the Jags, Gardner Minshew will be used, who is a different type of player by nature. While Richardson is always sprinkling in runs and getting into the end zone himself, his replacement has more of a classic passing role.
Players in Focus
With Richardson out, one player in particular is being called upon and that is Zack Moss. The running back is playing an outstanding season so far, already amassing 552 rushing yards and also scoring three touchdowns. However, he alone can’t keep the running game at the level it has been so far. Therefore, we would not be surprised if Indianapolis will operate more through the passing game, because otherwise the offenses are too predictable.
Rookie Josh Downs
The Colts wide receiver is already making a good impression in his first year in the NFL and could become one of the key players alongside Michael Pittman Jr. In the first five games of his NFL career, he caught passes for 255 yards, ranking 38th among pass receivers. His first touchdown, however, was a long time coming.
Weak D-Line
The Colts are anything but good on defense, allowing an average of 23 points. Shane Steichen’s team has especially struggled against the opposing passing game. On average, the Indianapolis defense allows 262.8 passing yards and is one of the weakest teams in the NFL in this category.
Key players of the Indianapolis Colts:
- QB: Gardner Minshew
- RB: Zack Moss
- WR: Josh Downs
- WR: Michael Pittman Jr.
- K: Matt Gay
Jacksonville Jaguars – Indianapolis Colts Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
The head-to-head comparison between the two teams somewhat surprisingly goes to the visiting team. The Colts won 27 duels against Jacksonville, while the Jaguars picked up just 18 wins. However, the last meeting went to the home side and was only a few weeks ago. For this reason, our prediction between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts goes more in the direction of the home team. For our main tip, however, we have decided against a point bet.
Jacksonville Jaguars – Indianapolis Colts Tip
We play between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts betting on under 47.5 points in the game. The home side is favored, but they are not particularly efficient on offense. On the other hand, the host stands very neatly and will therefore allow little. With Anthony Richardson out, the visitors’ O-line is also weakened. For this reason, we expect this duel to be a low-scoring game.
Alternatively, between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts, we recommend the odds for a win for the home team with a handicap of -2.5 points. The home side already won quite clearly a few weeks ago and should be able to confirm this performance in their own stadium. With Richardson out, the Colts are also missing one of their most important players, so we don’t think the visitors have much of a chance to win
