Does the Pacers’ downward trend continue?
The Indiana Pacers take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night. The hosts have fallen off badly of late and the decline was largely due to numerous retirements.
Indiana Pacers – Statistics & current form
Indiana was last clearly under the wheels in Dallas with 105:132. It was already the fourth defeat for head coach Rick Carlisle’s team in the past five league games.
Although Domantas Sabonis, the powerful centre of the three-time NBA champions, returned to the court, various other players had to miss the game due to injuries and the Pacers were still unable to put together an appealing collective performance.
One positive exception was the performance of Duane Washington Jr. The rookie was born in Germany and his father of the same name also used to play in the NBA. On top of that, he has another former NBA player in his family book, his uncle Derek Fisher. With 22 points, he scored the best points of his team in the last game. In addition, Washington Jr. set a new career best with this tally!
LA Clippers – Statistics & current form
For Paul George, the upcoming opponent is always special: after all, it was the Pacers who picked him tenth overall in the 2010 draft, and in Indiana, “Playoff P” was subsequently under contract for seven years before being dealt to Oklahoma for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis.
Meanwhile, George has now been in LA since 2019 and the seven-time All-Star is still one of the top players in the NBA. However, the 2013 MIP is currently out due to an elbow injury.
This is a painful loss for Los Angeles, as Kawhi Leonard, their second star, has not been able to play since the beginning of the season. In view of this unpleasant personnel situation in LA, however, the Clippers are doing quite well:
They currently occupy eighth place in the West and their defence is particularly convincing, even without Leonard and George: Only five teams are ahead of the visitors in the NBA’s defensive rating!
Indiana Pacers – LA Clippers tip
For the game between the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers on 01.02. the tip includes an away win. Both teams have to cope with various absences, but the guests cope with this situation better than the home side.
This is due to the fact that the unfortunate personnel situation in LA has lasted for a long time and is therefore now better priced. Players from the former second row, such as shooting guard Amir Coffey, have mostly coped successfully with the increased workload so far this season and have used the opportunity to play themselves more into the limelight.
A testament to the assessment of a stable performing visiting team is also the current road trip of the Californians.
The Clippers have been on the road for just under two weeks now, and their tally of four wins and three losses in this review is quite respectable, especially since the defeats came mostly against top teams like Miami and Denver.
