Win the quarter-finals for Gerwyn Price?
“The Iceman” is warming up for the upcoming World Championship. Gerwyn Price caused a sensation at the Grand Slam of Darts 2023 and easily prevailed in the group stage against opponents such as Searle, van Veen & Co. At times, the Welshman even played with an average above the 100 mark.
With a points average of 112.30, the world number five even had one of the best averages in the history of the Grand Slam. If “The Iceman” takes this momentum with him, Price could even win the title. For now, the focus is on the round of 16 against “The Flying Scotsman”. Our Price vs. Anderson betting tip is for a win for Gerwyn Price
The Welshman can not only underpin his recent run of form, but also end the negative series against Gary Anderson. In the last three H2Hs, the “oldie” from Scotland has emerged victorious
This time, we are nevertheless leaning towards a Price vs Anderson prediction on “The Iceman”. Since the bitter 8:10 defeat to Danny Noppert – Price squandered a 7:0 lead – the Welshman has won each of his last ten matches – a good omen ahead of the last 16 of the Grand Slam of Darts 2023?
Gerwyn Price – statistics & current form
Gerwyn Price was already one of the favorites for the title in the run-up to the 2023 Grand Slam. The Welshman once again underlined his role as favorite with an impressive group stage. The world number five only lost two legs over the course of three group matches. Against a player like Ryan Searle, there was even a “white wash” – victory without losing a leg – to celebrate.
Gerwyn Price’s most recent average was also commendable: in his last two matches, he broke the 110.0 average. In addition, “The Iceman” played with a checkout rate above the 50% mark. Against Gian van Veen, Gerwyn Price even hit five out of six double throws and thus had a checkout rate of 83.33%.
Consistently, Gerwyn Price goes into the round of 16 duel against Gary Anderson as the favorite. Although the Welshman has lost all three encounters against the Scot this year, bookmakers with a German license are offering odds of 1.57 for a win for “The Iceman” against Anderson
Gerwyn Price on course for fourth GS title
In his current career, Gerwyn Price has already won the Grand Slam of Darts three times. The last time was in 2021, mind you. Just one year later, he failed to defend his title in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Grand Slam against Raymond van Barneveld. Despite a 101.78 average, Gerwyn Price lost out to “Barney” and said goodbye to Wolverhampton.
Now there is the next attempt to win the fourth title at a Grand Slam of Darts. In his current form – Price has won his last ten matches – the Welshman is certainly capable of winning the title. Especially after the recent results in the group stage
Gary Anderson – statistics & current form
Gary Anderson narrowly missed out on the group stage. “The Flying Scotsman”, as the two-time world champion is also known, only booked his ticket to the last 16 of the Grand Slam on the last day of the match against Lennon. The 52-year-old swept his opponent off the stage with a 5:1 win, setting the stage for the match against Gerwyn Price.
This is the fourth time Gary Anderson has met the Welshman in the course of the calendar year. In the three previous encounters – all on the PDC Tour – Gary Anderson came out on top. The last time was just under a month ago, when “The Flying Scotsman” celebrated a 6:2 win over Gerwyn Price to reach the quarter-finals of the Players Championship 25.
However, if you take a look at the Scotsman’s recent run of form, it’s a risky bet to put money on the two-time world champion from Scotland in Price v Anderson this time. Gary Anderson has only won two of his last six matches
Never won the Grand Slam of Darts
Gary Anderson is taking part in the Grand Slam of Darts for the 16th time in his career. In the 15 previous appearances, the Scotsman’s best result was a place in the final. In 2011 and 2018, “The Flying Scotsman” reached the final of the Grand Slam of Darts. In 2011, the Scot was defeated by darts icon Peter Wright. In 2018, however, Gerwyn Price became the final opponent.
In the three group matches of the current Grand Slam 2023, Anderson has so far had a scoring average above the 95.00 mark. Gary Anderson will have to build on this against a player like Gerwyn Price. The doubles rate will also point the way for a win against the Welshman.
While “The Flying Scotsman” only hit one of his four doubles against Humphries, he had a checkout rate of 45.45% in the group final against Lennon. Gary Anderson hit five of his 11 throws on the doubles and also threw the maximum four times (180).
Gerwyn Price – Gary Anderson head-to-head comparison / H2H result
Gerwyn Price and Gary Anderson meet for the 20th time in total. In the 19 previous encounters, Gary Anderson leads the H2H against the Welshman with a record of 10-9. The Scot has won three of those ten matches in the last three meetings – all in the current calendar year.
“The Flying Scotsman” has not lost a match against Gerwyn Price since May 2022. Anderson has also only lost five legs in the last two H2hs
Gerwyn Price – Gary Anderson betting tip
Gerwyn Price faces his first hurdle in the knockout stage of the Grand Slam 2023 after his impressive performances in the group stage. Gary Anderson is not the Welshman’s favorite opponent, but despite a poor H2H this calendar year, “The Iceman’s” role as favorite is understandable.
The Welshman has won his last ten matches and is therefore brimming with confidence. In his last match against Gian van Veen, Gerwyn Price had the ninth-highest average in the history of the Grand Slam of Darts 2023. If he can build on that, “The Flying Scotsman” is unlikely to see any land either
We expect a one-sided match in favor of the Welshman and place our Price vs. Anderson betting tip at odds of 1.57 on a victory for “The Iceman”. In our opinion, the only question is how high Gerwyn Price will win the round of 16. In the three group matches of the Grand Slam 2023, the Welshman has only lost two legs so far. We are betting six units
