Will Clemens and Schindler celebrate a successful World Cup start?
This week the PDC World Cup starts in Frankfurt. In the middle of it will be the host nation Germany with Gabriel Clemens and Martin Schindler. For the World Cup opener Germany has to play Spain. As expected, Clemens and Schindler are favourites against Jose Justicia and Tony Martinez.
For Germany vs. Spain Darts, the highest betting odds of 1.42 are currently offered for a bet on the German player duo. If the Spaniards win, on the other hand, betting odds of up to 3.00 are on offer.
Last year, Germany was eliminated from the doubles World Cup only in the quarter-finals against England. Before that, the German player duo – at that time still Clemens and Hopp – eliminated Canada and Japan from the competition. Against Wade and Chisnall, who represented England, it was the end of the line.
In the tournament opener, Clemens and Schindler should not have too hard a time against the Spaniards. Last year the Spanish duo was eliminated in the first round of the Darts World Cup 2021. It is quite possible that this year the next first round defeat will follow.
Germany – Statistics & current form
Before the tournament opener in Frankfurt, Clemens and Schindler were still represented at the Players Championship 17 in Niedernhausen. Gabriel Clemens surprisingly said goodbye to the PC17 already in the first round. Against Baggish, “Gaga” Clemens lost 4:6 in the best-of-11 despite a 90.68 average.
Doubles partner Martin Schindler, on the other hand, not only mastered the tournament opener, but also prevailed in the second round of the PC17. After the 6:5 against Niels Zonneveld, a 6:3 against Ted Evetts followed. Only against Ross Smith Schindler had to give up in the third round. Despite an 89.91 average, “The Wall” Schindler suffered a narrow defeat.
Now the German player duo starts into the World Cup 2022. In the last years the best result at a doubles World Cup was the semi-final 2020, where Germany was only eliminated from the competition against the tournament favourites from Wales. Before that, Germany had knocked three nations out of the competition in Finland, Greece and Holland.
Will Germany master their compulsory task against Spain?
Gabriel Clemens did not present himself in the best shape in the last weeks before the World Cup. Gaga” Clemens has only won three of his last nine matches. Among others there was even a bitter defeat against Josh Rock at the PC16 where Clemens didn’t win a single leg.
Martin Schindler on the other hand presented himself in much better shape. The 25-year-old won four of his last six matches. In the last months Schindler caused a sensation with some surprise coups – especially on the European Tour. Among others, he defeated top-class players like Searle, Dolan and Cross.
If Schindler continues his form of the year, the duo with Clemens has a realistic chance of a small World Cup fairytale. The hurdle against Spain is in a way already a compulsory task for the German darts team.
Spain – Statistics & current form
Spain will start with Jose Justicia and Tony Martinez. The latter will be competing in a World Doubles Championship for the first time in his current career. Justicia, on the other hand, has played in the last two World Cups and represented Spain at the World Cup in 2020 and 2021. Last year, Justicia and Noguera were eliminated in the first round against South Africa.
Although Spain had a better average (91.24 to 82.32) against the South Africans, Justicia and Noguera lost 4:5. In the decisive moments – the throws on the doubles – the South Africans were more coolly and deservedly prevailed in the 2021 tournament opener.
This year, Spain will be looking to make amends, but they have a tough draw in Germany to start the tournament. Betting fans who want to bet on Justicia and Martinez in Germany vs Spain Darts can pick up betting odds of up to 3.00 in the event of success for the Spanish duo.
Do the Spaniards show a defiance?
Jose Justicia and Tony Martinez have stumbled in recent weeks. The latter lost six of his last seven matches. Justicia, on the other hand, has suffered three straight defeats recently, including losses to de Sousa, Gurney and Kuivenhoven. Justicia previously made a splash on the European Tour, eliminating Jonny Clayton from the ET6 in Prague just under a month ago.
Before that, Justicia had also caused a few surprises on the Tour. This year the Spaniard can look back on victories against top players like Wright, Huybrechts & Co. Furthermore Justicia already won against Clemens, one of the upcoming opponents in the World Doubles Championship.

Germany – Spain Tip
At the home World Cup in Frankfurt the role of favourites of the German player duo is quite understandable. However, the tournament opener against Justicia and Martinez will not be a foregone conclusion for Clemens and Schindler. The Spaniards have already caused a few surprises on the tour, especially Jose Justicia.
For the 33-year-old nicknamed “The Joker” it is already the second participation in a doubles World Cup. Last year, Justicia and Noguera were eliminated in the first round by South Africa. That defeat was mainly due to the poor checkout quota.
Justicia has improved considerably since then. As the results on this year’s tour show, there is definitely surprise potential in the tournament opener. Justicia eliminated last year’s PL winner Jonny Clayton from the competition at the European Tour in Prague just under a month ago. Since then, however, he has suffered three defeats in a row.
Nevertheless, we see the German hosts as favourites in the Best-of-9. In Germany vs. Spain Darts our betting odds are on a handicap win for Germany with at least two legs to spare. We are betting five out of ten possible units for this.
