Does Germany clinch victory in the group?
The EURO Basket 2022 is thrilling the masses. As hosts, the German team has ensured that a wave of euphoria sweeps through the country at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. By the way, the games of the German team will be broadcast free of charge on Magenta TV. We can only recommend everyone to watch the match on Tuesday against the European champions from Slovenia.
So far, Head Coach Gordon Herbert’s team has delivered everything they promised before, maybe even a little more. After three match days, the DBB giants have three wins under their belt and have already become the first team to make it to the last 16. The minimum goal has been achieved, and after the group phase we will go to the play-offs in Berlin.
There we will probably see the Slovenians again. The defending champions around NBA superstar Luka Doncic have not been completely convincing so far. With 2:1 wins, they are still on target, but the teams from Bosnia and France also have the same record.
We can’t agree with that, because what the German team has shown so far in this tournament has been really great. It is obvious that there is a team on the court that wants to go far at this EURO Basket. In our opinion, you should therefore try to bet on a German victory in this match between Germany and Slovenia.
Germany – Statistics & current form
It is already bitter that Moritz Wagner and Paul Zipser cannot take part in the European Championship. It is all the more astonishing that the German team has surpassed itself in every game so far at this EURO Basket. It is always other players who play themselves into the foreground. Every single player in Gordon Herbert’s team has really delivered so far.
Grand balance of the German basketball players
Together with the frenetic crowd, they can really go far in this European Championship. The German team’s form is now as strong as an ox. The DBB giants have won 13 of their last 14 games and have recently won five in a row. They won against Slovenia in the World Cup qualifiers and against France and Lithuania at the EURO. Gordon Herbert’s team has thus beaten three European Championship favourites.
The victories against France in the first game and Bosnia in the second were already great. But there was a real thriller on Sunday against Lithuania. Twice an overtime had to be played before the German team prevailed with 109:107. The outstanding man on the court was the young Franz Wagner, who was only the third German player, after Dirk Nowitzki and Dennis Schröder, to score more than 30 points in a European Championship game.
Despite the great results, the German team is trying to remain modest. Even though they have already reached the round of 16, it is important to keep riding the wave, especially since winning the group is within reach. The better you do in the preliminary round, the easier your opponents should be in the play-offs. That’s why Gordon Herbert’s team will be hot on Tuesday and why, between Germany and Slovenia, we tend to play the betting odds on another German success.
Predicted line-up of Germany:
Lo, Giffey, Weiler-Babb, Voigtmann, Theis, Schröder, Wohlfahrt-Bottermann, Hollatz, Thiemann, Obst, Sengfelder – Coach: Herbert
Slovenia – Statistics & current form
The Slovenians came to this tournament as European champions and have all their top stars on board. Therefore, it has to be said that one could expect much more from Aleksander Sekulic’s team in the last matches. In the World Cup qualification the Slovenian team had its problems and also in the EURO Basket the team around superstar Luka Doncic has not yet delivered.
Good record but slight dip in form
Sure, they are well on their way to making it to the last 16. However, things could well get tight again. If they lose two games against Germany and France, which is not completely unthinkable, the defending champions could even be eliminated in the preliminary round.
In total, the Slovenians have won 12 of their last 14 international matches, although there was a defeat against Germany and a loss in the last match on Sunday against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Maybe it’s because Luka Doncic is not yet running smoothly and because the other Slovenian stars Goran Dragic and Vlatko Cancar are not performing as well as usual.
Of course, the three NBA stars of the European champions are still the game-dominating personalities, but overall one would have expected more dominance from them. Whether the Slovenians will be able to hold their own against an unleashed German team can therefore be doubted. We still tend to make a prediction on the fourth German victory in the fourth match between Germany and Slovenia.
Predicted line-up of Slovenia:
G. Dragic, Samar, Rupnik, Nikolic, Prepelic, Muric, Tobey, Blazic, Dimec, Z. Dragic, Cancar, Doncic – Coach: Sekulic
Germany – Slovenia Direct comparison / H2H-Balance
In total, the basketball teams from Germany and Slovenia have faced each other in 16 games. In the direct comparison, the Slovenians are ahead with 10:6 victories. However, only the last two duels, in which both teams secured a win each, are decisive for the match on Tuesday.
Last year, the Slovenian team won the preliminary round of the Olympic Games in Tokyo by a clear 94:70. A little more than a week ago, however, Germany had the better end on their side in the World Cup qualifier in Munich, when they won against the European champions by a surprisingly clear 90:71.
Germany – Slovenia tip
The German basketball players have already qualified for the round of 16 and will travel on to Berlin at the end of the week. The next stage goal is now to win the group in order to avoid the stronger opponents in the play-offs for the time being. A win against the Slovenians and first place would be out of reach for Gordon Herbert’s team.
In general, Germany has done really well at the EURO Basket so far and is certainly one of the best two or three teams, at least up to this point. The Slovenians, on the other hand, are showing some problems. The European champions don’t seem to be in their best form at the moment.
The German team is simply in too good a shape for us to expect a defeat, especially as there was only a clear victory against the European champions just over a week ago. We think that the DBB giants will not be able to take the group victory away on Tuesday and have decided to play the odds on a home victory between Germany and Slovenia.
