Do the Lions continue their strong season?
Happy Thanksgiving, NFL fans, and welcome to our Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers betting tip for game day 12 in the NFL. Yes, this famous holiday is always something very special in the USA and this year there are even three games on the program.
Lions vs. Packers is one of the less exciting games on paper, but the Lions have shown minor weaknesses recently, while the Packers surprisingly beat the Chargers. So maybe there is still a chance for them
It’s also a great opportunity for Jordan Love to boost his stock in front of a crowd of millions after he has disappointed somewhat so far this season and has not been able to recommend himself for a longer-term starter’s job.
Thus, our prediction for Detroit vs. Green Bay is a closer game than most expect. The Lions are currently not as confident on the road as they were at the beginning of the season, which increases the chances for Love and his Packers to keep up here
Kick-off of this beautiful NFC North duel is on Thursday at 18:30 in Detroit. The game can be watched live on RTL Nitro and on DAZN.
Detroit Lions – Statistics & current form
With a five-point difference against the Bears, with three points against the Chargers – the Lions may not have been convincing across the board recently, but at least they won their games. They now have a strong 8-2 record – for the first time since 1962.
However, a little less drama would be desirable again, especially for the heart health of head coach Dan Campbell, who has been suffering badly of late. After all, both of the last two games were only decided in the very last seconds
Can Jared Goff recover?
Quarterback Jared Goff is also currently on the more unish side, as evidenced by three interceptions against the Bears. His luck could be that the Packers have one of the weaker secondaries in the league with only five interceptions caught.
Still, this could be a chance for Green Bay to upset the Lions and not let them pull away. Similar to Chicago, we also believe Green Bay can score touchdowns with shorter fields. However, if Goff remains flawless, then a Lions victory is inevitable.
Defense with carelessness
While the Lions’ defense was really good in the first few weeks of the season, it surprisingly slumped in the last four games. While they conceded an average of 18.8 points before that, the figure for the last four games is 29.0 points conceded per game.
That could lead to another high-scoring game on both sides. Although we also see the Lions coming out on top in such an exchange of blows, handicaps of over seven points are difficult to play with.
The odds on other bets for Lions vs. Packers are slightly better, e.g. on over points or player bets on touchdowns by David Montgomery for Detroit or Jordan Love for Green Bay.
Key Players:
- QB: Jared Goff
- RB: David Montgomery
- WR: Amon-Ra St. Brown
- TE: Sam LaPorta
- K: Riley Patterson
Green Bay Packers – stats & current form
The Packers improved to 4-6 with the win over the Chargers and – unbelievable but true – also got themselves back in the playoff race. A win in Detroit would put them just one win behind the final Wild Card spot.
That’s some extra motivation for Thursday. Besides the big stage of a Thanksgiving game, of course. Jordan Love in particular could boost his reputation tremendously with just one game.
Turning Point Thanksgiving?
It wouldn’t be the first time that a team or a quarterback could save a season with a surprisingly good performance. Great football players live for games like this and we’re excited to see if Love can take advantage of this stage.
Most recently, he hasn’t used his good running skills enough and has relied too much on his arm, which has already led to ten interceptions this season. If he can find his legs again, he and the Packers would be greatly helped here.
We think there’s a good chance the game plan for Thursday goes in that direction, as Love scored his last rushing touchdown in late September against the Lions, of all teams. For Detroit against Green Bay, a bet on another rushing TD from Love is therefore a great underdog bet.
Defense better than its reputation
The Packers are only allowing 20.2 points this season, which is actually a top-10 value in the league. This means they concede fewer points on average than the Jets, Egales or even the Lions, whose defenses have a much better general reputation.
However, their defense has clearly improved in the last four weeks in particular. While the Lions conceded 29.0 points in this span, the Packers only conceded 17.5 points on average – a somewhat surprising comparison.
For this reason, we do not see handicap bets on Detroit as our favorite picks. The aforementioned player bets, especially on Jordan Love, also offer significantly higher value here.
Key Players:
- QB: Jordan Love
- RB: A.J. Dillon
- WR: Romeo Doubs
- TE: Luke Musgrave
- K: Anders Carlson
Detroit Lions – Green Bay Packers head-to-head comparison / H2H record
While this matchup was clearly in the Packers’ clutches for years, that has changed in the last two years. Since 2022, the Lions are 4-0 against the Packers. Jared Goff has been responsible for all of them.
The Lions are again considered the favorites for Thursday and with a larger handicap. But that’s exactly what makes winning bets a little more difficult. Will it be a typical Packers low scoring game or a Lions high scoring game?
We expect a lot of points, which also makes the odds on over 47 total points for Detroit vs. the Packers interesting. Especially the Lions’ weakness on defense could lead to this tendency
Detroit Lions – Green Bay Packers betting tip
The Lions are considered the favorites and should win the game in the end. But will they make it as exciting as they often have recently? It could happen, as they have conceded an average of 29 points in the last four games.
We can well imagine a 30:24 or similar result here, which puts the 7.5-point handicap into question. Our preferred option for Lions vs. Packers is a touchdown by Jordan Love, especially since running back Aaron Jones will be out
In addition to a player bet on Jordan Love, there is also one possible option for the Lions: a TD from David Montgomery. He already has eight touchdowns this season and has scored in every game after his injury layoff.
