Next defeat for the Cavs in Dallas?
Fourth in the West from Dallas hosts the stumbling 2016 champions from Cleveland. The Cavaliers have lost five of their last six league games and are only eleventh in the Eastern Conference. The visitors also have little hope in their recent record against the Texans.
Since six duels, only losses against the basketballers from Big-D have been conceded and quite a few of them in the form of blowouts. For the game at the American Airlines Center between the Mavericks and Cavaliers, the forecast once again includes a clear home win with at least a six-point difference.
Dallas Mavericks – Statistics & Current Form
The Dallas Mavericks have not been convincing with a particularly strong offence so far. However, there are signs of an upswing. The reason is that in the meantime not only Luka Doncic acts in the forward play in his usual efficient manner, but also Kristaps Porzingis has stepped up.
The Latvian successfully took over the additional workload in the offensive during Doncic’s recent injury break and maintained his high level of performance after the Slovenian’s return.
In the penultimate game of coach Jason Kidd’s squad against the Clippers from Los Angeles, the centre scored 30 points, the highest number of points on the side of the team from the Southwest Division.
However, the performance of the former Knicks player dropped off in the following game against the Wizards from Washington and the exchange of blows ended with a defeat against the Capitals.
At least 107 points by the home side?
However, odds on more than 106.5 points by the hosts in the Dallas-Cleveland clash are also value. Although the Mavericks have lost four of their last five games, the schedule has admittedly been a tough one, with recent games against the in-form Wizards and twice against the currently unstoppable Phoenix Suns, who have not lost in 15 rounds.
Instead, the Cavs are a much easier opponent, which is why the Mavs’ offence should perform better again.
Projected Dallas Mavericks line-up:
Porzingis – Cauley-Stein – Finney-Smith – Hardaway – Doncic
Cleveland Cavaliers – Statistics & current form
The Cleveland Cavaliers had to digest some bad news last week. Collin Sexton, their best-performing point guard, is out for the rest of the season. The 22-year-old will have to undergo meniscus surgery and Ricky Rubio will take his place in the starting five.
The Catalan from Barcelona has also had a strong season so far and is well above his career high in points. In addition, Darius Garland is another efficient guard. The 21-year-old is currently even the Cavs’ best shooter with an average value of 18.2 points.
The only recent win was against Magic
The loss of Sexton is still a blow to head coach J. B. Bickerstaff’s squad, and their playoff hopes have dimmed considerably as a result. The recent record of five defeats and only one win already shows that it will be very difficult for the troops from the Central Division in the future.
The only success in this review was against the last team in the East, Orlando. Even now, the pros from the Cuyahoga River only rank 23rd in the NBA’s offensive rating.
Newbie Mobley has to pass
In addition, Evan Mobley, a rookie who started out with hope, is out. The youngster, picked third in the first round of the last NBA Draft, was putting up great numbers for a newbie until his injury, averaging 14.6 points and eight boards per game for the centre.
One bright spot in the Forest City, however, is Jared Allen. The 23-year-old came to “Believeland” from Brooklyn last season and has meanwhile established himself as a reliable player on the five for the five-time winner of the Eastern Conference. With Mobley out, the “big man” now has an even bigger role to play.
Allen is currently churning out double-doubles
Allen is also having a very strong season in Ohio, scoring 15.3 points and grabbing an impressive 11.2 rebounds per game. Both balances are well above his career highs in those areas and for the past three games he has consistently posted a double-double in points and boards.
Due to the personnel situation of the visitors, the odds on more than 24.5 points and rebounds by Allen in the duel between the Mavericks and Cavaliers are even better.
Predicted line-up of Cleveland Cavaliers:
Garland – Markkanen – Allen – Okor – Wade
Dallas Mavericks – Cleveland Cavaliers Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
As mentioned at the beginning, the Cavs’ output in this pairing has not been pleasing for them for quite some time. The past six meetings with the two-time winners of the Western Conference were always lost and the defeats were usually clear.
The average margin of victory for the Mavericks is no less than 21.16 points! For the upcoming duel in the “House that Dirk Built” between Dallas and Cleveland, the odds are once again clearly in favour of the hosts from the Lone Star State.
Dallas Mavericks – Cleveland Cavaliers Tip
For Cleveland, the task in Dallas would be very difficult even with the best line-up, but given the decimated squad, the prospects for success for the visitors are not under a good star. For the match between Dallas and Cleveland, betting on a home win with at least a six-point difference seems like a good idea.
As previously described, the Cavs’ recent duels with the 2011 champions have always gone in the home side’s favour anyway and not infrequently in clear form. A home win for the men from Victory Avenue is also supported by the fact that the hosts’ offence has recently improved thanks to Kristaps Porzingis’ upturn in form.
Furthermore, the Texans are strong at home: only two of their eight home games have ended in defeat. Bet365 offers odds of 1.90 on the Mavericks and Cavs clash for the forecast.
