Bayern with tough test against Real Madrid
The FCB basketball players are still lagging behind the high expectations in the Euroleague 2022/23. After twelve matchdays, the Munich team has already lost eight games. One of these eight EL defeats came last week against Baskonia. At the difficult hurdle in the Basque Country, Bayern went down 53:78.
This week, parallel to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, the next match is against a top Spanish club. Although the FCB benefits from home advantage against Real Madrid, the Madrilenians are the clear favourites for the match at the Audi Dome. If the royals prevail, odds of only 1.33 are paid on Bayern vs. Real Madrid for tip 2.
Since the introduction of the Euroleague, Bayern has only won two of six matches at home against Real Madrid. One of the FCB’s five home defeats since then came in the last home match against Real in November 2021, when the Madrilenians prevailed 80:76 in Munich.
A similar result cannot be ruled out this time either. Bayern recently suffered two defeats in a row and did not make the best impression on the court. Last weekend, they only managed a meagre 68:78 against Bonn in the BBL
Bayern – statistics & current form
In the BBL, FCB coach Trinchieri’s squad has made a strong start to the season so far, with just two defeats to their name after ten matchdays. One of these two league defeats came last week against the current leaders from Bonn. The failure was once again due to the weak offensive performance.
Over four quarters, Bayern only threw 68 points, but Bonn scored 78 points in return. Only a few days earlier, the FCB went down 53-78 against Baskonia. In the Euroleague, Bayern remained winless for the eighth time this season and also squandered the momentum after the win against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Tuesday evening is now the home match against Real Madrid. Munich have a 2-4 record in six EL games at home so far, including a surprise coup against last year’s champions Anadolu Efes.
Can the FCB keep Real’s attack in check?
In order to score against the Madrilenians, it is not only the offensive that will have to improve significantly this week. The Munich side will also be challenged in their defensive play. After all, Tuesday’s opponent provides one of the best offences in the Euroleague – currently averaging almost 85 points per game – and also leads the H2H against Bayern.
Against the Madrilenians, FCB coach Trinchieri will have to do without a total of three players due to injury. In addition to Sisko, Lucic and Rubit are currently on the injured list for Munich. If the FCB can still score against the Madrilenians, Bayern vs. Real Madrid betting odds of 3.65 for tip 1 are paid out.
Bayern’s likely starting five:
Bonga – Gillespie – Jaramaz – Obst – Wimberg
Real Madrid – Statistics & current form
Real Madrid found their way back to success in the Euroleague after starting problems and climbed to fourth place with an impressive winning streak. Only the recent defeat against the Monegasques ended the high flight on the international stage – Real had previously won six matches in a row.
Real Madrid had recovered from the narrow home defeat against the ASM and were already warming up for the away match in Munich with a 103:89 win over Manresa. For the Madrilenians, it was already the third match this season in which the 100-point mark was broken in a competitive match.
The result was by no means a surprise, however, as the attack is currently the showpiece of the royal team. Players like Musa, Deck & Co. have already caused a sensation on the international stage. The best scorer is currently Dzanan Musa with an average of 15.7 points. The offensive all-rounder is versatile on the floor and has been one of the best players for the Madrid team this season.
Will Real roll over the Munich side?
If Real take the momentum from their recent league match against Manresa into the match against the FCB, the only question at the Audi Dome is how high the Madrilenians will ultimately win. In any case, Real have only lost one match in their last ten league games. On the other hand, head coach Jesús Mateo’s team has been successful against top clubs on the international stage.
The strong performance against Fenerbahce, the Euroleague leaders, was particularly praiseworthy. Real Madrid celebrated a clear 85:71 victory against the Turkish representative in Istanbul. This was Real’s fourth win in their fifth away game in the Euroleague.
It is quite possible that a forecast on Bayern vs. Real Madrid will also pay off. Only Fernandez and Hanga will miss the match in Munich due to injury. There are no other absences for Real Madrid Baloncesto.
Predicted Starting Five of Real Madrid:
Abalde – Cornelie – Musa – Tavares – Williams-Goss
Bayern – Real Madrid Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
Bayern and Real Madrid meet for the twelfth time in total. So far, the Madrilenians lead the H2H against the Munich side with a record of 8-3. A total of three of these eight victories have come in the last four encounters with the FCB. Only in the last encounter in April 2022 did the FC Bayern Munich basketball team prevail.
In Madrid, they even celebrated a 97:88 victory. A high-scoring encounter can by no means be ruled out this time either. Both teams have enough potential for it. Therefore, our value prediction for Bayern against Real Madrid at odds of 1.85 is that more than 158.5 points will be thrown in.
Bayern – Real Madrid Tip
Bayern stumbled in their last two competitive matches, failing to convince against either Baskonia or Bonn. In both matches, the FCB’s offence was particularly disappointing – especially in the away game in the Basque Country. The 53:68 against Baskonia was the first time this season that Bayern scored less than 60 points in a match.
If, on the other hand, one considers how strong the upcoming opponents from Madrid have been recently, the FCB is already doomed to failure in the upcoming match. The Madrilenians have won nine of their last ten matches and are brimming with self-confidence, especially in their offensive play. Most recently, they even celebrated a 103:89 victory in the ACB.
We therefore expect the Spanish top club to win in Munich as well and place our bet on a handicap victory for Bayern vs. Real Madrid with at least a five-point lead. We are betting six out of ten possible units for this.
