Curtain up for the top match in the Basketball Bundesliga! FC Bayern Munich and NINERS Chemnitz are the two top teams in the BBL on matchday 21. Although Chemnitz is leading the table, the Niners are classified as comparatively clear underdogs in the FCB arena.
The two clubs met in Chemnitz just under a month ago. Munich prevailed in that encounter with an 86:73 victory and so handed NINERS Chemnitz its only defeat in the German league in 2024. Perfect record in Munich: Next home win for FCB?
In the current Bundesliga season, Munich have won every home game so far, giving them a record of 9-0. Statistically, this makes FCB the strongest home team in the league table. Bayern have scored 825 points in these nine home games, giving them an average of 91.66 points per game.
At least 90 points cannot be ruled out against NINERS Chemnitz either. Especially after their recent display of power in the BBL. After the upcoming matchday in the Basketball Bundesliga, the league will take a break due to the international break. Whether some players will be rested for the upcoming match remains uncertain for the time being.
Point guard Carsen Edwards has had Munich’s best scoring average so far in the current BBL season. The American averaged 14.1 points per game and had a rate of 1.60 assists per match. However, players such as Booker, Brankovic and Obst are among the best scorers – in terms of scoring rate, mind you.
The latter hit eight of his twelve 3P shots last weekend, giving him a rate of just under 66%.

The Niners Chemnitz are playing a strong season so far and are deservedly at the top of the BBL table. In the current league season, the NINERS have only lost to Bayern, Alba and Ulm. Head coach Rodrigo Pastore’s charges have also impressed at international level. The Niners even won their group in the Euro Cup.
The Niners Chemnitz have won four games in a row in all competitions. Last weekend, Pastore’s team prevailed against Oldenburg. The BBL leaders celebrated an 87:69 victory in front of their home crowd, thanks in particular to a strong second half.
Chemnitz kept its opponents’ offense in check in the final two quarters and conceded just 26 points in the final two periods. The Niners, on the other hand, scored 43 points in those two quarters to secure an unchallenged victory against EWE Baskets Oldenburg
Can the Niners surprise in Munich?
Now the difficult hurdle at FCB awaits. The NINERS have not won at FC Bayern Basketball since January 2022. They have suffered three defeats in their last three away games.
