Duty for Adrian Lewis!
Wednesday it’s that time again: In London this week the Darts World Championship 2022 will start! In the middle of it all is the two-time World Champion Adrian Lewis. At prime time in the Ally Pally “Jackpot”, as Lewis is also called, has to face Matt Campbell. The Canadian is not an unknown face for die-hard darts fans.
After all Campbell already took part in the PDC World Championship the two years before. So far “Ginga Ninja” Campbell always had to bow out in the first round of the World Darts Championship. In 2020 his World Championship adventure was over in the first round against McGeeney, only one year later the lightning knockout against Scott Waites followed. This year Campbell now faces the next setback.
Adrian Lewis is past his prime, but the two-time world champion should not have too much trouble on Wednesday night. This assessment is also shared by the best bookmakers, who rate the 36-year-old Englishman as the clear favourite in Lewis vs Campbell according to the betting odds.
In his entire career Adrian Lewis has only once in 16 attempts been eliminated from a Darts World Championship in the first round. That defeat came four years ago against Kevin Münch, who eliminated the then title contender 3:1 in a best-of-five match
As in the years before, the 2022 Darts World Championship will again be broadcast on free TV. Beside Sport1 DAZN will broadcast all matches of the World Darts Championship. Wednesday evening the broadcast of Lewis vs. Campbell will start in the Livestream of both providers presumably from 22:00 (CET).
Adrian Lewis – Statistics & current form
Adrian Lewis, as he lives and breathes. Once the Englishman was one of the top players of the PDC, meanwhile “Jackpot” disappeared in no man’s land and is even ranked 34th. Since his injury in 2017 Lewis couldn’t find his way back to success and lagged behind the big expectations – especially in the World Championships.
Lewis has already been crowned world champion twice in his current career. But since his last World Championship title in 2012 “Jackpot” only once reached the final of a PDC World Championship. That final was in 2016 when Lewis was defeated by Gary Anderson. Since then Lewis – among other things due to injury – flew under the radar.
Just in time for the World Championship in London, however, the Englishman also made negative headlines: At the Players Championship Finals Lewis after his defeat against Peter Wright – meanwhile world number one of the PDC – made a verbal roundabout. Still on stage Lewis called his opponent a “cheat” and could only be calmed down by the security staff
Will Lewis also make headlines at the World Cup in sporting terms?
If Lewis builds on his recent performance at the PC Finals, he has a realistic chance of reaching the decisive rounds at the World Championships. After all, he recently had a tournament average of 93.51.
After the power performance against Huybrechts (6:3), where Lewis only scored one 180, he scored four times the maximum points on the 3-darts throw against Wright. It’s quite possible that the 36-year-old won’t have too much trouble against Campbell. We think a prediction on the Englishman tends to be without alternative, especially as his opponent has never made it past the first round of a World Championship anyway.
In case of success, Lewis’ next opponent will be Gary Anderson. Adrian “Jackpot” Lewis doesn’t want to miss that chance for a showdown…

Matt Campbell – Statistics & current form
Matt Campbell is a rather unknown face in the PDC. The Canadian meanwhile is ranked 137th in the world ranking of the PDC and till now he didn’t stand in the big spotlight. During his last two participations in a World Championship Campbell twice had to withdraw in the first round.
This time the Canadian with the nickname “Ginga Ninja” is confident to reach the next round at the World Championship 2022. After all Campbell gained a lot of confidence during the year and won among others three Challenger tournaments in Europe – and got the PDC Tour Card for 2022/23.
Most of the time Campbell was active in the Online Live League. For the first time since the Grand Slam of Darts 2021, when the Canadian was eliminated from the tournament as last of the group, Campbell now stands again on the big stage.
Is Campbell without a chance against Lewis?
At the Grand Slam, “Ginga Ninja” suffered three defeats in the group stage against Humphries, de Sousa and Suljovic. In total he won only four sets in three group matches and had only an average of 85,37. For comparison: At the Challenger Tour 2021 in Niedernhausen Campbell had partly an average of over 100.
Betting fans who would nevertheless like to place a bet on the Canadian in Lewis vs Campbell can triple their stake in the event of success. Betting on it will be risky, however, given Campbell’s recent record in major PDC tournaments.

Adrian Lewis – Matt Campbell Tip
Adrian Lewis picked up momentum recently just in time for the 2022 World Championship. In the Players Championship Finals after an impressive performance against Huybrechts he nearly had a surprise coup against Peter Wright. Only in the last leg world number two Wright got the decision – much to the displeasure of Adrian Lewis.
The Englishman now wants to get back on the road to success in the 2022 World Darts Championship. There is no sign of luck in the draw, after all in case of success over Matt Campbell in the next round there will be a clash with Gary Anderson.
Lewis shouldn’t have too much trouble against Campbell in the first round. Although the Canadian has already won three tournaments this year – Challengers, mind you – we don’t see Campbell on a par with the experienced Lewis. It is quite possible that even a whitewash – Lewis wins by zero – beckons.
In the case of Lewis vs Campbell, our betting odds of 3.25 are on a 3-0 win for Lewis. We are betting a total of five out of ten possible units for this.
